second that. They are epic. I'd check out the Fox challenge vids with Mark Pitchers, funny and informative. Also urban banx on the nash channel. Brilliant to watch and the eurobanx vids are brilliant too.3 points -

I got an adapter so I can use the cheap tall slim gas canisters. Best thing I did. Did a 15L stock pot full to the brim and it used just under half of one of those gas canisters. Not bad really and being as they are dirt cheap it’s not too bad.2 points

Yeah mate I'll start off with a few and add another 1 or 2 to each boil and see how it gets on. I see on argos they have a double deep fat fryer for £40, I'll try the hob first and if it isn't up to the job I'll get a deep fryer. I've switched from a coleman to a t4 too, I love using it and not having to worry about fuel getting on everything. I think it's still got some fuel left in it so might use it for some particles. Not sure if it's any use to you mate but they have 10 of them canisters for £10 in go outdoors.1 point

The Carpcatcher. Screeming Delkims Carpheadbangers. I can't stress enough how much i wish Mark Pritchers would remove himself from anything fishing related, I think the blokes a complete and utter ######################## !1 point -
This was a great watch, thanks for the link.1 point

I had the supa mk1, and thought it could never be bettered. I was wrong. I now have the lo pro, weight isn't such an issue but set up and breakdown time is, especially when I need to move onto fish. I do overnighters, so every minute counts and believe me it counts when your packing up in the rain. My most important factors Quick set up and breakdown No faffing bits and pieces Removable centre pole Light Everything on this brolly is designed to make it quick and easy and I absolutely love it, so much so I got the mozzi mesh cover which again is really easy to fit. I don't mind it being so low as I have 2 storm poles with quick adapters, which are a doddle to use. All in all, perfect for my fishing1 point

Neither have I mate, hopefully someone will have done on here to give an honest opinion. Not looking at replacing until the new year, I reckon mine will last me until then. maybe something revolutionary will be on the market by then!1 point

I have the same thoughts as @yonny for my shelter choice. Lightweight & quick. For the last 3 years I have used and abused my JRC STI 2 rib shelter (now replaced by the JRC Defender Shelter) through all sorts of conditions. I have the overwrap for the colder and wetter months too. It's now coming to the end of it's life, with a tear at a pegging point, a broken zip on the wrap and various other little things. None of which make it unusable however. Altogether I think the shelter and wrap cost me £150 all in. So not bad value IMO for the use i've got out of it. It's withstood some brutal winds, snow, heavy rains, everything thrown at it and not once has it let me down. It weighs in at a mere 5.5kg which isn't bad, with the overwrap 2.4kg. Just under 8kg combined. It's very spacious too, I fit all my kit in there no problems, but then I do try to travel fairly light when I fish. As I said, i'm now on the lookout for a replacement, I may go with the Defender shelter as above and replace it like for like almost. The chub outkast shelter is very similar, slightly more expensive & heavier but has a couple of extra features. Both of these come in at sub £200 for shelter and overwrap. I have been looking at brollies, especially the ESP Hideout, but still cant get my head around having something to hit your head on all the time!1 point

That always happens to me....... I'm always holding back on buying new books as I'm busy spending a small fortune on books that are no longer available. By the time I get round to buying the newer ones they too are no longer available and worth ££££££. If my Mrs knew what I spent on all these books she'd go absolutely mental.1 point

No I haven't mate, it's on my list, I noticed you mentioned it a little while back...…. He comes across as pretty down to earth and I like that..... There's another book in front of the queue atm on chemoreception... Knowing my luck Oz's book will be sold out and worth a mint by the time I start looking lol1 point

Flavour of the Week - Shelters
yonny reacted to snowmanstevo for a topic
I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread. I’ve had my JRC Stealth brolly for nearly 9 years now 😳 and tbf it’s been bullet proof. Just starting to have a little leak in one place but seeing as I’ve never re treated it i suppose I was due a leak sooner rather than later.🙄😬 My main priorities for a shelter has to be durability. My local water is on the Mersey estuary and the wind/weather is brutal. It’s seen off countless Brolly/Bivvies over the years 🙄🙄😆😆 So ideally something that’s rock solid. The Stealth has done me proud, but as you can imagine after 9 years use it’s looking a bit tatty now. 🙄1 point -

I can imagine, mate. When I did the horseshoe social a few years ago i was amazed of the quality of waters within a half hr drive of the place. Trust me there’s nothing like that oop north. That’s what I was trying to get at.😬1 point -
Likewise! Have you read his book @B.C.? It's right up there with Tel's imo. Proper captivating stuff.1 point

just very low stock ones with hardly any pressure because they've either become extremely difficult or you're not meant to be there!1 point

Same almost everywhere nowadays buddy. It's nearly impossible for the average angler to find waters with numbers of big fish that aint very highly pressured.1 point -

I’m Cheshire born and bred but haven’t fished locally for years. I’m probably a little out of touch but I’d say joining Wheelock AS would be the best bet; to my knowledge they have 30’s in 5 of their waters. PA is also worth considering for the mighty Redesmere alone. Unfortunately, both of these clubs have significant waiting lists. Northwich Anglers givs you access to Petty Pool which has a good head of fish to over 40 but its days only, demanding and difficult. Warrington gives you access to the Sandiway lakes both of which have 30’s in. Keep an eye on Top Flash on the Winsford card-its on the way back after a devastating fish kill a few years back. That should give you plenty to go at-they’re all open access waters and no big secrets.1 point -
Go on eBay save yourself a whole load of carp tax and normal money by doing so. Taska :- 222847067598 unbranded :- 263837929118 (I have this one, and as you will see they are nigh on identical)1 point

Bulin t4 for me. Awesome bit of kit. Actually did some particle using it the other day. Huge stock pot on it and it got it bubbling in no time.1 point

You'll have to play that one by ear mate...….. The heat will be reduced when you put the boilies in, so depends how quickly it heats up again and how many you put in at a time. Can cause a few issues if it takes a minute or two longer than you want it to, to heat up to boiling point again if you have a lot of solubles in the mix, they may start to wash out of the boilies...…. Basically, all depends on the mix...….. Another option that some guys use for small amounts of boilies is a deep fat fryer with water in it, you can pick them up new for about £20 and they have a nice basket with them so you don't need to use a sieve to fish out the finished baits, worth a look if the hob isn't up to it..... Thinking of getting one, as I was told they hold the heat better, or re-heat quicker , if you know what I mean...……… I recon the hob will be ok, though, once you get used to it..... The coleman, yeah good little stove.... My petrol mower packed up and I had a gallon jerry can almost full with petrol..... So seemed a shame not to give it a go for my particle and it worked ok, better than I thought..... Glad I found a use for the coleman as since I got a bulin stove for the bank, it doesn't get a look in......1 point

If you have a gas bbq just put your pan on that. Be interested to hear how this goes. I’ve got my prep down to a 48hr soak, 15min boil and then sealed to keep it cooking itself overnight. Seems to work fine but a bit laborious on the fishing stove. Need to clean out my burco and get that up and running!1 point

Have to say Mark, In the South, fisherman tend to stretch the truth in the opposite direction. We are blessed with a larger average size of fish and I've known anglers to take a few pounds "off" the weight of a fish, just to stop the circus turning up...… In Essex, we live in the realms of Nash, Korda, Mainline, to name a few..... Last thing you want is a load of "labled up" full timers taking over a lake, that does pretty well without all the fuss.... Could be , that in your neck of the woods, things are kept a bit hush for the same reasons. Not so much to deter fellow anglers, but to deter sponsored glory hunters. So photo's and finer details would be thin on the ground...…. I know of at least one 40lb fish, that has weighed 38.12 for at least five years on every capture, Spring,Summer Winter.... Pre spawn/post spawn...… With no glory hunters publicly claiming it's true weight, the lake remains a relatively quiet place to fish, very rare these days in my area..... A couple of seasons of regular fishing and a lot of tea bags needed, before the regulars will open up a bit, by which time, you would already have a fare idea of what's in the lake....1 point

Thanks again guys, I've watched the video now and I have been tying up my rigs almost the same until changing the hook pattern and also the hook link material, at the weekend I went back to using a stiffer hook link with a curved shank hook and was a lot happier with the results,if it ain't broke then don't fix it springs to mind lol.....1 point

Ever feel like you need a "fresh page" to start on???...…. Well tomorrow is just that for me...…. Had a right dodgy few weeks, no matter what I've tried to do lately, something has popped up and kicked me in the nads……. Only mentioning it as I'm out the other side of it now, touch wood...…… Done a few bob on the van which passed the MOT last month, but a few advisories escalated into a couple of expensive jobs once the mechanic got under the bonnet.... New ignition barrel, new exhaust section, new starter motor, new tracking rods and rod ends plus tracking done..... Great, I thought as I whizzed over the lake last night for a walk( the van was off road for a couple of days and it felt like weeks)…. Everything working and feeling all good and driving and starting well...….. So, gets up this morning to attend a work party, guess what?... Flat trye….. I just laughed, it was that or pull my hair out.... So, roll on Monday..... Fresh start, new week and all that...🙂….0 points
