  1. Past hour
  2. I've got a big choice from various sessions: 4 winter carp just after the lake thawed in February on Nazeing, 20, 26, 26 and 17lb 2 Ardleigh carp on the day of the London bombings, a 23.6 and 24.12, both fully scaled mirrors, but the overnight session was not as important as my Mate who was on the tube that day, thank heavens he survived. A 3 hour session on the river that gave me a 28lb pb at the time. Multiple 20lb fish from Brackens Pool a couple of times, from Earith Virginia Lake, and even from the 475acre Alton reservoir.
  3. Take your pick: I'm still catching on the last of my Rod Hutchinson Monster Crab and KMG boilies, other fish are coming out on maize or sweetcorn, one member on my syndicate is catching ON hemp, another on maggot, someone else on worms.
  4. Think that says almost everything. Most anglers who walk round a lake choose the middle of the day, yet have missed the first light shows, or have gone before the dusk/dark shows. I HATE mornings, yet when I was fishing Alton Water to find the fish I had to be there an hour before first light to find the fish. Not easy when you finished work at 11pm! However on my late night shift before 2 days off, (3-11pm), I would still walk various stretches looking for fish. On my current syndicate, binoculars are a must, shows can be tiny, just a fin breaking 200metres away, if you don't have binos you've missed it. They could also be a bit more obvious. Another thing, try to find natural food areas, look for 'thick' bubbling, rolling.
  5. Today
  6. The top 2 posts have it nailed down only thing to add is jumping fish do not necessarily mean feeding fish.
  7. Image above I've gone up into a plateau - boats currently sitting at 12ft, firm bottom, no weed. Image above I've just gone over a pack of fish, currently at 16ft - rock hard ground as a red crust with barely and yellow above. The thin yellow crust above the red in the past (middle of screen) is a thin layer of silt over rock hard ground.
  8. Well you're either talking about a built in system like Raymarine or external like the Deeper with arm. Although I do know that Deeper also gets fitted internally now. This transmits a signal (chirp technology) back to the bank via wifi to a phone or tablet. You're looking at the sonar image of depth and bottom contours, yes fish do show up but it's not a fish finder just sonar, same as is used in the sea by trawlers and the like. I've got Raymarine on an ND4 boat. What you see on the right of the screen is what's under the boat now, everything left is the past.
  9. Dog biscuits and black foam seems the winner right now
  10. Spot on that πŸ‘†πŸ‘€ The only way to find where the carp are naturally feeding is to be watching from before first light IMO, last 2 trips the feeding activity ended by 6am from first light. Miss it and you're clueless it happened. Effort = reward which is this case is understanding exactly whats going on whilst most others sleep.
  11. Your eyes are your most important bit of tackle mate πŸ‘€

  17. Yesterday

  25. Spawning tubercles are usually all over not just the head ”During the spring, they frequently develop spawning tubercles over their gill plates, along their flanks and on their fins. Spawning tubercles have the appearance of grains of sand on the fishes' bodies and can give them a slightly rough feel if rubbed gently. β€œ or read this one https://carpworld.co.uk/from-the-bivvy/all-you-need-to-know-how-long-do-carp-really-spawn-for/
  26. Don't think it was F1 as it had both sets of barbels. I thought spawning just made them have nodules on they're head n pectoral fin but not all over πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ. I did pass the info onto the owner with pics but they don't know alot about fish
  27. Looks like a f1 Carp their sterile but still go through the spawning process, could pass on the info to a bailiff or the owner
