LC1975 Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Hi, Is a size 4 Korda Choddy hook on a hinge rig too big for a 14mm pop up? There's no issues with the pop ups I'd like to use, they're super buoyant. I've previously fished this rig with a 16mm hook baits so using these 14mm ers makes the hook looks a bit too big! Am I overthinking this and the set up I intend to use is good to whack out in the pond? Thanks elmoputney 1 Quote
greekskii Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Over thinking imo. Crack on. Personally prefer bigger baits but I have used PJPU 13mm with size 4s in the past and caught, on a fairly tricky water too. yonny and elmoputney 2 Quote

I nearly always used a 13mm or a 15mm with a size 4 although now I'm a home roller they seem to vary in size so will use a size 4 for whatever size I pull out the tub 😂 I use a size 4 trig hammer xt btw which is a pretty big hook. I wouldn't worry mate will be fine. Edited February 14 by elmoputney yonny 1 Quote

Hi Yonny, Where can I buy size 2 hooks for stiff rigs? I couldn't find any online. The closest I've got is a Korda wide gape in a 2. I tied up a rig with the size 2 wide gape and a 16mm cork ball hookbait. I had to steam it because of the line exiting angle. It does look lethal. Quote

I tied up a hinge using a wide gape the other day, I agree it would work, you just need to have a straighter curve on the chod section. But I thought they look good tbh. LC1975 1 Quote

I spotted the Avid and Cygnet jobbies - both on sale too. Avid Armorok Chod Hooks Fishing Tackle and Bait Cygnet Choddy Hook Size 2 Barbed | eBay UK Quote
emmcee Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 Get yourself some "Varivas Chinu" hooks from Veals Mail order. They are a sea fishing hook, Sizes 8's and bigger. They are choddy style hooks, super sharp and half the price of carp hooks. If i was still carp fishing I'd 100% be using them. PureBlood and yonny 2 Quote

And the bonus being, no carp tax. kevtaylor, PureBlood and yonny 3 Quote

Thanks I was checking my rigs this week and a size 4 Gardner Incizor is perfect 'counterweight' for a 12mm Monster Crab pop-up. I've used size 4 Solar 101's with it and caught. Quote
