yonny
Why I dislike day tickets: The new tickets started on my syndi this weekend so I avoided it to give any newbies a go and went to a popular day ticket water instead with my mate fro a social. Got there and it was proper rammed, which I half expected. Went for a wander and left a bucket in one of the swims (not intentionally, I forgot it). Realised 20 mins later and went back only to find it had been nicked!!! Not a great start. It was obvious where the fish were but there was no way I was getting anywhere near them so ended up just trying to find two swims together for the social (my mate was joining me later). Couldn't find 2 together but ended up chatting to a guy that said he was off in a few hours. I decided to fish off the barrow in the swim next to him with a bucket behind his swim. Just as he packed up a couple of hours later I got a call from my mate, he had arrived and was unloading, great. I left a bucket and my jacket in the swim and I moved to the the one vacated by matey. I was setting up my kit when I saw my mate approaching so popped round to get the bucket/jacket...... only to find some **** had moved them and was setting up! "Sorry mate were they yours"? Me: "Yes, the swim had been reserved". "Of, sorry, I didn't realise. I put them over there for you". Me (walking away shaking my head): "Thanks a lot mate". So my mate ends up round the other side of the lake and know we're both not on fish and we're both not socialising lol...... Not much happens until maybe 3 am when I'm woken by a rustling sound behind the bivvy. I get up half asleep and hear rapid footsteps fade into the distance. Can't see anyone. Back to bed. Up at first light and find my rod bag has been nicked. Ffs....... By 07:30 I've had enough and I'm packed up ready to go to the syndi, I can't bear this place any longer. Popped over to see my mate on the way out, on the way I have a chat with a fella 1 swim away from my mate that's clearly on the fish. He's leaving in an hour and the swim is up for grabs. Had a chat with my mate, we decide to stay. Move in there and bag a couple on zigs within a couple of hours, a 15 lb common and an 17 lb mirror, nowt big but they're my first carp of the year so happy with that. That night I manage another common off the deck, 16 lb, and we have a laugh so not the complete disaster it was shaping up to be. My mate's had 3 to 22 lb too. Next morning I wake to some young lad casting right over my lines and I choose to pack up and go home. On reflection I'm short of 1 x bucket, 1 x rod bag, and 24 x wasted hours, but I'm 3 x carp up so I write the weekend off as a dodgy sesh and look forward to my next trip in a couple of weeks - which will see just 4 of us fishing a 45 acre lake in central France for 50 pounders. Booya.  kevtaylor

yonny
There was a group of lads over the other side getting wrecked that built a fire 4 ft tall as well. We were speechless. I'm not slating the venue itself, its a really well run fishery but you just can't keep an eye on all these idiots all night. kevtaylor

I've never had a problem there but must have been lucky, havent been there for a while though! The lack of day ticket waters around this way will push all of these sort of people together too. Elsons not too bad to fish, but the more skilled angler ends up on their I guess. It is funny when you see swan or mallard booked all weekend though! everyone else piles on to one lake all weekend and it shuts down completely
androoooo
Yonny, It's a shame you've had that experience. I usually like getting up Stanwick a few times a year. Usually fish Elsons by myself and go on Swan with my brother who when fishing along just fishes for silver's on the float. Never had any problems up there. I got back yesterday from a few days with my brother, we got there Sunday mid morning, I was quite disappointed with the anglers leaving, a lot of rubbish just left behind in pegs. The guys that ran it were round shortly after collecting it all, that shouldn't be there job though. Â yonny
yonny
Agree 100% fella, never had any issues before over there, must have picked the wrong weekend to go.
yonny
On the Saturday night there was a lad wandering round the lake asking if anyone was selling weed lol!! In fact the more I think about it the more ridiculous that whole weekend sounds now..... thefts, fires, drugs, not your average fishing sesh eh.... kevtaylor

Carpbell_ll
Can see why Kingsbury wont do night fishing other than when a ranger is there over night, it would be mayhem, i think more venues need to start a membership with pre booking for night fishing
