terminal tackle help

Recommended Posts

Im taking up carp fishing again after a few years out of it, was just wondering if someone could give me a an idea of what to buy terminal tackle wise to cover a few basics, haven't got loads of money to spend on gadgets. Would either be fishing a silty lake with no snags with fish up to 25lb or a small weedy super clear lake with small wild carp in

Hello mate and welcome to the asylum :D

I'd keep it simple to start and get some coated braid hooklink, it can be used to make a multitude if rigs and will help to keep the cost down.

I'd couple it with SIZE 6 and size 8 hooks.

And maybe some pva bags for the weedy lake.

I would personally recommend buying some decent fluoro to make up your hooklinks. "Soft Ghost" is pretty good, and 12lb breaking strain would be ideal.

If I were fishing just the silty lake I would use a coated braid hoolink like Korda's n-trap or Jel-e-wyre, ideally in a dark "silty" colour.

If the lake is really silty, I would make my hooklinks at least 10" long, so that your bait doesn't sink into the silt too much, and would also use as light a lead as I could get away with.

A lighter coloured bait would also be my preference, so that it stands out a little from the dark silt.

Apart from a little bit of supernatural i have left , all my hooklength braid is sufix in one form or another .

Does all sorts of requirements and only a fiver a spool you cant go wrong .

I even use their mono for some stiff links too .

True...probs just the way they market/advertise it...Korda still the best..🎣🎣

Tin hat time...

Please don't get me started on Korda Kra...

Seriously for years I used black tulip beads, black run rings, although now I'm using khaki coloured run rings. My leads are a flecked green, or brown, or grey, my hooklink swivels are black, although I must insist that some tackle manufacturer makes me a khaki green and brown flecked swivel...:lol:

You think how many carp were caught on John Roberts rig beads, stiff tubing and uncoated leads, with a length of black Dacron and a bright shiny Drennan Super Specialist hook.

I just get everything in brown and catch over weed, silt, gravel.....

If you check your tackle in the margins you'll see over everything but the cleanest gravel it really doesn't make much difference. On really clean stuff I might use a fluoro leader but when we're fishing with fluorescent pink hookbaits what does it matter lol....
