  1. So on balance you'd use micro barbed. Fish safety first imo. The palatrax appealed to me in this regard, when I read about it I'm (if I ever can get fishing) trying to focus on zigs (contentious in certain circles, re. above) , so would worry that a barbless hook is more likely to be ejected and cause damage before I'm even aware of any bite indication. I'm not on a barbless rule venue btw
  2. That's a concern with barbless though, this can cause damage to the fish externally in the net! Dodgy batch maybe? I've mainly only used Korda, other than the Kamakura range, never had that type of issue
  3. What hook was that?? As yonny made mention to, is that likely to of happened on retrieval banging against the lead? So any sign of mouth damage with the pallatrax jh? Do you like the hook hold you had?
  4. Good stuff smufter! Interesting to hear. The only response I got a while ago on these said the same about size. So little to no mouth damage? Shame you lost two, what makes you feel it wasn't the hook mate?
  5. This is what I currently use, actually named bobbin. I saw an underwater film on zigs and it would appear I need to change. Heavier bobbin or an actual swinger that shows up better drop back indication, due to movement from hook length before the lead is moved giving a better indication. Maybe I should start different topic in this regard? Curious to hear what you or nige use
  6. Swi Swingers! Lol & yes auto correct is great. Not the car keys in a bowl either🙄
  7. I'm also minded to get some new heavier singers, what's your thoughts on that yonny??
  8. I pondered chods, but wondered if it would set so well with the distance to the lead??
  9. As we said before mate, it will always get a flick with the file before going out! The bend issue was highlighted before I tried them, I had the same issue so chose not to use them as I never had it before. Which pattern do you use for zigs. I've been trying wide gap, but am open to good advice. Also whether or not to use an aligner?
  10. I had the same thing with korda kamakura, straight in the bin!! 🤣 I sharpen the Kranks up, never had one of them bend on me since they first came out.
  11. I started stiff rigs with IQ2, it can fray if snagged on certain underwater features, but most hook link materials would deteriorate too. There are previous topics on it mate. Have to say it's been left in the garage, once I saw rigmarole version, no need to steam it straight, just pull tight and it's perfect. I prefer the hydrolink in there range, it is far more versatile for different rig types. Give it a go! It's a preference thing I guess?
  12. Not my bag at all yonny, bit like elphicks, etc. The estate lake I'm on only go to early 20's. I was lead to believe they were naturally British fish, the owner leaves the place to do its own thing. Not overly baited with tons of boilies or parties. No noddies that I've seen, other than me! Although a member I saw last week said some of the fish had come from Europe! Not too sure on his comments really
  13. I heard a few years ago the owner was trying to sell the house and venue. For a very handsome price too! 😲 Never been but know a few lads that have, Big lump or two in there!
  14. Or use distance sticks, the wraps will always be the same distance!
  15. Hi, You can't go wrong with shimano. I've used them since starting up carping a few years ago. I have the aero xt 10000, a bit pricey at £170,but I love how they look n feel, nice balance on my rods. My spod reel is shimmy. XTRLC or whatever, similar price, but very good reels. My fishing mate has the rb's, very similar and equally efficient. My advice is to buy the best you can afford mate, as with most things. It would depend on the type of fishing you plan to do, long range you may want a bigger spool, so look at pit type over baitrunner.
  16. Opinions are like noses, we all have one and pick it. Every company (tackle) will sell to demand and bring each new or copied product to market in search of the next big thing. That's business and whilst we find certain points/products to make fun of, they are in it for the money and in turn hopefully keeping humans in employment. Tackle tarts keep the premium brands in business and most working poor class have to go budget range, not necessarily through choice. If money was no object I'm pretty sure most of us would buy the best product available. In my experience Trekker is the brand I avoid due to the few products I've brought being very poor quality and falling to bits on the first few outings.!! Not so with Nash/Korda & the like, I'm sure we all have their products and they serve a purpose in the carp fishing world! For example I like the Korda pulling tool, I would not use a coat hook from B&Q

  18. On or off the bottom mate? Quite a strong creature compared to maggots or worms.
  19. Do you thread that through the bait? The slug can change shape quite a bit, so I doubt a lassoo would work. I suppose floss would have the same effect! 🤔
  20. I tried using them once, (hooked on micro barbed), every time I reeled in they had gone!! Did you have any luck with them? If so how did you present them? I guess you could drill the shell of a snail, not too sure if a common snail will survive too long under water and would it drag your rig around a bit? Interesting bait theory, I hope someone has a bit more knowledge
  21. I use this knot for my leaders.
  22. I did this for years, then as with most things in life, someone showed me if you cut both ends of the wrap, the line then becomes 4-6"long and no longer poses a threat to the wildlife etc. should it ever be taken from the bin in future, simply genius
  23. I thought it was them, but aren't they barbless?? Harpz s hook has a barb Eager to see how you guys get on with them. If they give a good hold and cause less mouth damage than a micro barb I'll be using them for sure
  24. Is that Ali hammidi with a normal rucksack?
