  1. had a frustrating friday night, 3 losses but two fish banked. low double mirror and a 20.01lb mirror which was one of the more original looking fish in the lake. Real nice colours on it's leathery flank.

Was due to stay sunday night too but due to some weird leg pain I packed up and went home, only to end up with stomach ache all of saturday night and sunday (thank god I went home)

Back out on Thursday night for an experimental session with different tactics.

Anybody tried/used the new Ridgemonkey NEW RM-Tec Mono Mainline  I like that it comes in 1200m but have not seen any unbiased reviews on it? According to the latest Tackle Box line test it's looks very very thick:

also dont trust that tacklebox test though. Plenty of people will tell you its rubbish.

I.E. I have the original run of gardner hd in 15lb, it wont break at 14lb at all, its been put under more pressure than that and not even looked like going. Maybe the most recent run is different, I dont know but I wouldn;t trust the results fully

  3. Two from the weekend. Unfortunately I really ballsed the night time self takes up. My own fault for not having a decent camera!

17lber that gave one hell of a scrap & 21lb that was stunning apart from the mouth. Gutted I messed the pics up and it had real sandpaper like skin.

  4. I have made my own. I've made my own marker floats for a while now and thought a zig float can't be any more difficult to make.

I used a length of balsa (about 15mm diameter) cut to 3 inches. Sanded smooth and shaped at the edges to be rounded off.

Next I made a hole through it using a very long nail. Make sure it is straight(ish)

I then hammered in a inline lead insert and trimmed so it fit flush (measured against this before cutting the balsa so was almost bang on)

gave them two/three coats of grey primer. It soaks it in so you need a second coat at least.

Finished them off with a spray varnish from the model shop to seal the wood. (I did this after using them without and found they take on water like a sponge and sink pretty quickly. You live and learn)

I've tested them now and they float for days in water so I'm good to use them. Just haven't got round to it since.

I am happy to report a solid blank for today despite loads of fish just subsurface.

Same for me. A swim move this morning and a go at zigs didn't pay off. Wish I'd taken my floater kit with me.

ah, I see. Well I bet it wasn't great! Now go catch some fish!

Love the one with apple slice scales down it's back Vik. Pukka looking carp.

The one I didn't get a picture of was the best looking of the bunch. Proper big scales, almost framed its body, a cluster of tiny scales near its tail and a rough skin. Was a peach. I'll try catch it tonight and get some pics! En route to the lake in a minute.

  7. SO as has been mentioned on here on the 18th June, I did 32hrs on estate lake to kick off my season on there. First official session as a member and I managed to bag 13 carp to 26.02lb. Overall I had 4x 20lbs, 3x 19lbs and the rest high doubles with the smallest being 10lb (guesstimate). Unfortunately my camera battery died but I managed a couple of pics on it and had some visitors do some pics on my phone. Selection of this fish below. There was one very nice fish I had which didn't get photographed so I hope I catch it again and get some pics.

  8. I'm just looking at rods, had an email about the new sonik vader rods (which look amazing for the price btw) and it got me thinking about when I get new rods next year. I currently have 2.75lb tc and it has seen me good through all types of fishing but it looks like fashion has won the day and 2.75tc is harder to find now, with most ranges starting at 3lb. Just wondering whether it is worth me upping the tc as I am going back to the gravel pits next year. Obviously it'll offer a bit more range if I need it. but in terms of grunt, well I landed a 40lb carp through a couple of weedbeds on my current rod and have had countless 20s from snaggy and weedy swims without much hassle.

    opinions?
