  1. Ultimate PVA bag for me, 2mm pellet maybe a bit of boilie crumb if im feeling generous and the hook bait.

Went through the stage of putting loads of stuff in there, making a mix with oils and liquids but at the end of the day, stuff goes off so i dont use liquids, I dont want to be fart assing around at 3 in the morning making bags and adding various bits and pieces. I catch plenty, its all about speed and getting the rods back out as quickly as possible. 10 tied and ready to go bags, If i dont use them, they can be used next time without fear of them going mouldy or anything.

  2. Im finished on Bovi 2 now, i dont Lakelands across the road on a separate ticket last year. and with my second born i tend just to do the odd few hours over Layer at the moment. Lovely lake Bovi and worth figuring out mate, lots of features out there so get the marker out and have a proper lead around. pay more attention to learning the features in your first few sessions, it will pay off long term. Feel free to ask any questions you have or what you find if you want to validate info :)

Good luck mate. 3. So Slate is still in there at 42 now i believe, I had it a few years back at 37. Nutty and Apple scale are both over 30 as well i believe. In summer it gets really weedy but there are parts of the lake that remain clear...the lake is pretty angler free when its weedy! Its a good time to fish it. I dont know about weekends as i only done work overnighters. Shed load of tench in there up to double figures. I found Solid bags being the best method over 50 to 100 boilies. Theres a decent stock in there. They put some stockies in a few years ago. Fish dont show much over there, casting over a show done me well.

    Hello all,

I will be joining the CAPS waters at the end of the month and was wondering if anyone had some up to date knowledge on the lakes as the website is abit old and outdated. any info would be greatly appreciated.

    tight lines,

    Josh

    Hi mate,

I have done Bovi 2, olivers and Lodge farm and layer over previous years. what info are you after?

  5. I have never really paid to much attention to oils and glug's outside of the goo really but over the last year i have started to play around a bit more, from urban i tend to add a decent amount of the nutcracker liquid and leave it to soak for a day or 2 then on the day i add some of the red spicy flavouring. On the 2 waters i fished last year i caught really well and consistently, Would i have caught as many with them? Who knows but if i am catching with them iam not going to stop using them....Also the liquid tastes nice and the red spicy flavoring is just mashed up chilli's, Its hot and great on chips!

Hello Ginger , wondered what had happened to you , and sad to learn you are injured .

I'm sure you must have thought about Suffolk Water Park - Jacobs Creek . I've never fished it before , maybe Nick has ? .

    😃

Still alive mate, Just couldn't do watching or talking about fishing whilst i knew i couldn't go! I have booked Jacobs Creek, havent fished it before but walked around it a few years back, 2 nights with the old man next week so hopefully we both manage to grab 1 or 2. Looks set to rain most of the weekend so glad we have a little cabin to hide in!

  7. Hey guys,

I have been pretty quiet for a while as i ruptured my ACL, Broke some bone and tore my menicus whilst playing football about 6/7 months ago which has kept me off my feet and more importantly off the bank.

Its a long road to recovery but i think im capable of doing a few nights on the bank. I think doing it in a bivvy might be a bit much so i am looking for somewhere i don't have to bend to get in and out of so does anyone know of any lakes with a cabin on them? The cabins can be completely empty, they just need to be on the lake and big enough to get my bedchair in! Suffolk or Essex. Suggestions?

  8. not read all the messages but im not sold on the whole washed out bait thing, How does a fish know a bait has been in the water longer? Most baits washed out or not are slightly different shades of colour. I also think it would be niave of us on most venues to think we were fishing where there is no other bait around.

If a fish is leaving fresh bait and eating the washed out bait....is it because the fish thinks its been in the water longer so safe? or that the food signals are maybe less and now more attractive to that particular fish? or is it the flavour you have added when washing out a bait that has made it more favourable.....We will probably never know.

Every angler will have a different opinion, The question is, are you confident in what you are doing? If you washing out your bait and its catching fish...continue, If your not catching, Give it a try and if it doesnt work youve lost nothing. Fishing well if all about confidence.

Hello everyone I’ve been after a grass carp for years now ever since my mate first caught one which I have to say was pure luck as he somehow managed to hook a trailing rig in the swivel which was attached to a grass carp how he managed this I don’t no! But yeah so I’ve been fishing a few lake with hold the grass carp but never managed to get one now I know they love weed and have a weird mouth but that’s about it. So any tips would be great! Plus I’m going France in 12days and the lake I’m going to the grass carp have been coming out a lot more regularly so this could be my chance!!

have a search mate, I asked this a few months ago. What helped me was fishing deepers water and 7 to 8 " hook lenghs....I was fishing 3/4" solid bags before and it wasnt getting them!

  10. Well this looks set to be my last "session" before the baby drops, I will get some more work overnighters in but i have Thursday to Saturday to finally get my 2 target fish. Anyway, On this venue i tend to move between 2 or 3 swims on the same side of the bank but at opposite ends, each area doing me well but i have noticed over the last month or so alot of repeat captures. Now at 1 end of the lake theres a big island, from the side i usually fish its about 18 wraps and from the other is about 8 wraps, The short side i havent really liked fishing as it gives no view of the rest of the lake and if the fish are not in front of you your in trouble, its also the deepest part of the lake by a ft or 2. Now i have noticed when the sun gets up the fish tend to get round there and cruise around the top, So over the last week work overnighters i have fished round there. This has led me to catching fish i havent caught before and also consistantly catching (even though not as often as with the otherside).

so anyway over the few days that i will be there i plan to set up shop behind the island, Close the the island its inches deep dropping down to 7ft then to 11ft. I had some joy at 11ft this past overnighter....So im thinking that during the night i will fish down on the bottom of the shelf in 11ft of water and during the day i will either zig over the same spot of fish tighter to the island in shallow water depending on what i see. However im thinking if i go shallow i will move the next swim down so to "rest the spot a little".......Do people ever fish past the baited spot into shallower water? Do they have a problem with doing that? I feel that because there is such a difference in depth that my lines will be no where near the bait.....but the lines will still be there so maybe i should just cast left and right of the baited spot of move the rods down a peg..... Any thoughts on this?

It must be common to fish shallower during the day over and past baited areas and drop back down into deeper water in the evening?

  11. Hi All,

I think its time for me to get some new alarms and move the solaces into the 9ft foot couple of hour kit. Those alarms have done 5 fishing fishing at least 1 night a week through wind, rain and snow and they havent let me down but i did notice this week that on 1 of the alarms the bobbins could move a fair bit before notification.

so whats every one using? What do people recommend? Im sure i read there was one where the reciever light up the bivvy if there was a run? Want to avoid Delkims if possible...just because everyone has them!

You need to bear in mind that cold water is denser than warmer water so the coldest water is on the deck. Therefore carp, being cold blooded, will only drop to the deck for one reason at this time of year and that is to feed. However, since we're approaching the end of winter, their metabolism is as slow as it gets, and they need less food, hence bite times on the deck can be very, very short (less than an hour a day). For the remaining 23 hours, zigs give you a genuine chance of a bite. It's the main reason most angers blank all winter - their hookbaits, being on the deck, are nowhere near the carp. Zigs should not be ignored, particularly in winter.

Of course the info above is a generalisation. This winter has been the warmest in years and some waters are kicking off, even over bait.

I wonder if their metabolism is also influanced by the amount of naturals and the amound of fish in a lake also. i have had repeat captures through winter, 3 or 4 of them usually during the night over a 5 or 6 hour period (that in the last fortnight has begun and finished a few hours earlier). this lakes been a bit of a freak anyway but i do wonder....

Thanks ginger It certainly seems to work for you, 👍

I will decide in the morning how best to approach It but I've just just added some of the basemix to the pellets to give them a lovely coating of floaty goodness which will hopefully draw them in from far and wide to investigate, one more night shift I can't wait till the morning :)

Yeah working at the moment and im pretty in touch with people there so i know theres fish coming out, and i have done all winter so that helps. Decide on the day is the best plan.

  14. unfortuntatly i have seen them cruising on the top in summer but your not allowed to surface fish or have a zig in the top 6" of water.......i might be a little naughty and put a rod on the tigers for the night...see what that does for me.

I have heard about them destroying nets but im clumsly enough as it is so in the net then straight out of the water i guess.

  15. Hi,

Never caught one before, Not even seen one on the bank but i know theres a couple in the lake im currently fishing up to 27lb, I have 3 months left to try and get one out. Does anyone have any advise for these? At the moment im using solid bags with short hook links, i saw an article mentioning they have bigger mouths then common carp so maybe i im hurting my chances with solid bags. Its a 3 rod venue so its not like i have to completely move away from a successful tactic on this water.

  16. Well i blanked Tuesday but im back on later tonight until the morning....Lets see if this amazing weather chucks up a few bites.....Not quite sure how i should approach baiting (i wont be on til dark) how would you approach it, Bit of bait, Going in with singles....Kinda thinking if the weather is that good i should introduce a bit of bait....
