if you want to use the chod rig mate then go ahead, ive been a convert for 2 seasons now and my catch rate has without doubt gone up.99% of my fish have been nailed 1inch to 2inches back in the mouth bang centre with 2 hook pulls from over 50 fish.this weekend i done a few nights on my spring water which has some low weed but the rest is mainly a sandy bottom where the lead plugs in big style.i had 3 rods out all on the sand 1 chod rig with 6ft of esp sand coloured leadcore and 2 with fluro carbon straight to lead clip and balanced baits on fluro/combi links.2 fish both on the chod."chods for nods" so what if im a noddy then so be it and like you have said why do some of our best anglers use it if its as dangerous and as hopeless as it is made out to be.dont get me wrong in the wrong hands and tied incorrectly it WILL be a death rig which no one wants.ive been carp fishing about 20yrs now and boy do i wish i new about that rig from day 1. oh and nick is that patternoster rig not from the original korda rig guide? the same korda that you and most other anglers on here slate and here you are publicising them tut tut

as above, kryston heavy metal for me.one of the first out there and in my opinion the best
-
take a look at atomic tackle.they do drop off inline leads, they have a slot in them and they come off everytime.
-
Atomic tackles jelly-wire is good with the figure of 8 loop knot.you can even blob the tag end.
-
rigs stay the same, total change of bait though, which has been going in now for the past 6 weeks.the only change to tackle is a lighter mainline as the weed dies off
-
when it comes to coated braid then my first choice is Atomic Tackles "jellywire" after that then kryston coated braids would be my next choice
-
atomic chodda hook in size 6 with korda mouthtrap in 25lb,jobs a good un
-
if your still confused then why dont you look on youtube or the like and type in jim shelley/chod and see how he ties it,mr shelley is not everyones cup of tea but when it comes to fishing the chod he is the chodfather.
-
when i find it necessary to use the chod i always make sure that the bottom bead(the one nearest the lead)is 12inches away from the lead.and i make sure that the bead cannot slip down.i have used leads from 1oz-3.5oz and never had a problem
-
ive used the rig a few times and have caught using the rig with an atomic chodda hook, the fact that the eye is out turned i feel makes the hook point take hold better than a curve shanked hook anyway
-
the hooks i use for my chods are atomic chodda hooks in size 6,or for a beaked point hook i use jrc mbt4 in size 4.ive used the latter hook all spring, dropping 1 fish out of 34 takes in a relatively weedy water.though i have heard these hooks are to be discontinued so if you want some get in there quickly
-
for me personally it all depends on what bottom im fishing over, from 6 inches of weed etc upwards then its chod all the way for me.less than that then i will fish a conventional pop up rig

Good replie mate but i started chod fishing coping Jim's style years ago fishing light leads 1-1.5oz and lengths of leadcore upto 10ft long (yes you've read it right lads) i fished the same setup as jim exsplained to me and found it had advantages and disadvantages, the reason behind using such a long length of leadcore is its the lenght and weight of the leadcore that hooks the fish not the lead as it the last thing to come into play. I don't and never will use such a long lenght of leadcore again for certain reasons as it very difficult to cast it out and be target with such a long length and i think its unsafe and careless to do so. However like you i will contiune to use leadcore upto 4-6ft depending on the situation or flourocarbon straight through again depending on the situation im faced with.. It seems to me nearly everyone on this forum is againest the use of leadcore for 1 reason or another. I think to many people are to quick to jump on the band wagon without having any knowledge of the product. So i put this to you all .... If its that bad Magazines would'nt feature it. Every Top well known angler thats in the public eye would be againest it. And tackle companies would'nt produce it.... Tell me why?????? I don't mean to get peoples backs ups and i dont mean to be a bore.. not only that but look at the anglers that use leadcore, some people say shelley is a fish at all costs angler, never experienced that with him myself, terry hearn, ian chillcot to name just a couple.chillcot is all for carp welfare as we know with ECHO so why would he use something that is "so harmful to fish"
-
if you are struggling that much you can always buy them ready tied
-
i run my fingers up and down the rig really fast until i can feel it literally burning my fingers this makes the mouth trap pliable,i then make the curve while its warm.failing that get a gardener mini rig bin,put your rig in iy and steam them it curves up spot on
-
there is no need to be sorry nick, you have your opinons on leadcore and i respect them as do many others and i have read all the threads on leadcore and they have taught me its not to be messed with, the one thing that i make sure of 100% of the time when using leadcore with the chod is that the rig will come off with the minimal amount of pressure leaving the fish in the event of a crack of or line parting just the rig in its mouth.i have now changed to tubing when fishing simple lead clip/in line set ups thanks to what i have read/seen on here, which is something as i was a staunch leadcore user.
-
i bumped into jim shelley on my syndicate lake at the end of the season and asked him to show me how he ties his chods,it was as follows.6-8ft of leadcore(i use 6ft),bottom bead 1ft from the lead/top bead 6"-1ft from the top of leadcore, smallest ring swivels you can get your hands on,4mm rig ring on the D rig,25lb korda mouth trap, hook length between 2.5 and 3 inches, hooks esp stiff riggers mk2,atomic chodda.ive now been tying it this way since and my catch rate has gone up fourfold,i use the atomic chodda's in size 6(straight point) and jrc mbt4 in size 4(beaked point).not saying this is the be all and end all but that did come from the chod father himself.good luck with which ever way you choose
-
Best advice, DON'T buy any at all. There are loads of leadcore threads with the fors and against, but why use a product that adds extra risks into your fishing? In fact a product which lets you down every time you hook a fish can i just ask in what way does leadcore let you down "everytime"?ive used it for years and ive never had a problem with the stuff.thanks to this forum i have now seen the damage it can cause to fish, but in my 15yrs of fishing for carp i have never come across anything like that nor many of the anglers i have fished with,if i had then maybe i would stop using it myself.
-
dont recall how much they cost mate, sorry.have used esp but i personally found it a pain to splice.the solar version splices easy.the solar one i use is not the weed version by the way,i wouldnt touch that
-
ive used untold different leadcore, but have now settled on 2.they are the solar version and the gardener one.i personally cant fault either
-
since when has the palm of your hand been the same as a carps mouth?which when it takes your bait in may also suck in stones, leafs, twigs pellets etc.if your nailing them then i wouldnt worry mate.a mate i fished with had a rig that never caught your hand whenever you pulled it across it and he used to nail carp on it.if your looking to change the hook then maybe change to the atomic chodda hook which has a straight point, but other than that if it aint broke dont fix it
-
ive just switched over to the atomic chodda hook in a size 6,ive only used them the 1 night but they tie up good,i use them with 25lb mouthtrap and i can get that through the eye 3 times.had 2 fish on them and they were nailed big time.they might be worth a look
-
to me it depends what lake your on.for instance if this is the lake your to fish all season then i would use rigs that i was 100% confident in.but if its a lake say just for the spring and its a bit of a runs water then what i do is try all different rigs.last season on my spring water i tried chods for the first time and its given me the confidence to use it on my syndicate lake now
-
would that be premier baits quad,if so my dog loves the things.when i go out to my freezer she is right on my heels.we live and learn hope your dogs ok soon
-
take a look at avid carp range,im pretty sure they have designed the exact thing your after,a bead for chod fishing with a fluro leader/mainline
