ESP buzz bars look nice
elmoputney replied to elmoputney's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
No i didn't know that tbh that's the thing that really annoys me about buzz bars tbh, they never seem to want to align nicely, that would be the main selling point for me 😂 I really like the idea of omc elbows as you can swap them about and even just slip one 9ff to use as a single, but not sure if you will still have the same alignment issues that you get with most bars, I just went out for a couple of hours at the noddy pond 2 single sticks no messing about lol didn't even care they weren't aligned 😂 -
I'm thinking cloudy method mix with some 2mm floaters, some good liquid, and maybe some other little bits and a 10-12 inch mono hair rig with a smallish sinking hookbait maybe corn or pepperami, I might go test it tomorrow evening.

ESP buzz bars look nice
elmoputney replied to elmoputney's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
They do look pretty smart though and fairly reasonably priced 😳 -
I went to the little shop and bought some expanding pellets and a couple of these little bad boys, After being inspired by BB, I felt when I can find them cruising in the channels I can plop one of these in front of them and it might be deadly and let's be honest who the hell does that kind of thing on a syndicate lake 😏

Great idea that well done BB,

To start with I just thought another set of buzz bars until I watched this vid now I am wanting some, something that always bugs me is I can't get my alarms to line up by using an insert and grub screw, ESP have got around this issue meaning you will always have perfectly straight alarms, that to me is a game changer. Not badly priced either and has optional extra goalpost adapters. I think I am sold 😂

Low chair/bed chair (Solar or other suggestions)
elmoputney replied to kevtaylor's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
I don't always take mine as I now use my barrow more often, I could fit the chair on but prefer saving some weight and carrying less, I would if I was doing more than an overnighter but I barely get a chance to sit before it's home time these days. -

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291844150288?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=jdrK5iSxSqa&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=yW-jXGLIRqK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I've had one of these for a couple of years or more Kev so far Elmo proof, pretty light, compact, good for sitting on a bed with and really good back support. They do seem to have got more expensive though I didn't pay anywhere near a ton for it. It's exactly 1kg lighter than the Solar one just checked. -
Snapped in about 4 pieces it's not gonna make it 😳 The reel I think would need a whole casing or body I think. Not sure if it would be available, doubt it would be covered by the warranty either.
-
Yeah it's annoying but it can be replaced, unlike me irreplaceable 😂
-
As above don't wear crocs or plastic soled shoes that don't grip on muddy banks, not only can you slip fall in you can also slip, fall in land on your rod, snap it to pieces, break your reel and smash your bite alarm to smithereens. As I found out this weekend, I was only trying to wash my hands after baiting 😱🫣 To make matters worse whilst trying to reel this in I hooked a stupid jack pike, getting that in was fun, would rather catch a bream. Needless to say if was an expensive trip and the shoes have gone in the bin.

I would catch more fish probably using wafters and bottom baits, but I have found pop ups seem to single out the bigger ones, which is why I tend to use them more, one of those self fulfilling proficies I guess.
-
If you need to use barbless, I would use something with a beaked point, wide gape, J precision long gape or krank. I've used barbless a few times recently and not suffered any losses using a beaked point. I've gone full circle tbh I never used to use a beak point at all, then I lost a load on straight points now they are pretty much all I use. Thanks for all the kicker suggestions, I think I might just buy some and test them against one another and see which works best for me

Sorry for the confusion, Hook bead would be if I just mounted the hook swivel on the shank and didn't use a slip d (just being lazy really trying to keep it quick change) just looking for a good one that doesn't slide up the hook. slip d would be free running I am just trying to avoid shrink tube really just makes it more of a faff, I guess the solution to both is a decent kicker, one that keeps the hook at the angle you set it.
-
I've decided I don't like the avid D rig kickers anymore as they tend to straighten in water and not give me the angle I want , last light I tried to tie one of the loops and soft booms but struggled to make it work (I was tired) I am now thinking slip D Ronnie might be the way for me with shrink tube as it gives me the seperation and shrink tube tends to stay at the angle it's set. Only downside with this is steaming, it's always a bit of a chore isn't it? It's either that or I need to find good Ronnie kickers and decent hook beads that don't move, any ideas?

Use pop up rigs, most of my biggest carp are caught using pop ups.
-
This is the one I use it does have maize and maples, in it so I soak it and give it a good boil also.
-
If you have a local feed place nearby go and have a look, I usually get a aniseed free one, I am out kids swimming now but I will have a look what it is called when I get home.

Glad it's not just me seemed like mission impossible last night 😂 Might try some and see waders/barrow are an edge at the moment 😎

bite alarm set with bivvy light?
elmoputney replied to Carper_1990's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
I barely used my light last night. If at all tbh just attracts mosquitos and other flying pests, -
After spending the night deciding I either needed to hurry into my waders probably fall over and lose the fish, or just sleep in my pants and wear my plastic jesus sandels to go into the flooded swim, I opted for the latter btw as trying to get in my waders in a hurry seems impossible 😂 I keep seeing wadeez on my fb feed has anyone tried them? Do they work it would be good to be able to slip into my waders easily https://wadeez.co.uk/

It does happen to us all, the 31lber I caught recently ripped off while I had just retrieved a rig from a tree minus half the hooklink I had to chuck the rod in the bush, to make it worse I had already lost a rig in the same tree that was a recast my plan was to hit it short and clip up 😂 It was this one just incase you didn't see the catch report.

bite alarm set with bivvy light?
elmoputney replied to Carper_1990's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
I had the sonik sk set, hated the light everytime I got a run in the night it would go off as I woke up it would dazzle me and I wouldn't be able to acclimatise to the dark, gimmick if you ask me. Just have a head torch and a light for when you need one. -
Thanks, I just watched this vid Kev, there may or may not be a handy tip in it for you, I quite like what he did with the silicone 👍 r
-
That sounds a little more than a multi rig Kev, got me Intrigued, I've tied some chods like that before and I did like the way they sat, I might have a play with that when I get some spare time, what sort of knot are you using to connect the coated braid to the mouth trap?
