  1. Now i am far from the greatest expert on rig tying but when using a stiff material such as fluoro carbon is it not best to use a hook with an out turned eye , the longshank x has an in turned eye . Could this be a possible cause for the pulls ?
  2. How is it possible to know how effective a rig is ?
  3. For many years i have thought that bigger hooks give you a better chance of hooking larger carp , i tend to use 6's and 4's once in while if using a new potato or huge lump of paste a 2.
  4. How about trying a different hook length material , perhaps a coated braid or indeed uncoated,
  5. How many fish were others catching , is 4 a bad result ?
  6. That should be fine to land most fish , unless your fishing for 60lbers in very snaggy waters .
  7. Don't know the lake ,but out of intrest what bait and rigs are you using ? and did they used to work on that lake?
  8. As the water temps began rising the fish started responding to larger beds of bait as well as the bag approach. Beds of particle are working along with smaller beds of boilies Never fished there but took this off thier website , so basicly anything may work , it's a small water with a load of fish in it . Ask whats working when you get there put one rod on a big bed of bait the other on a high vis pop up might be worth taking some maggots .
  9. That's what i try to do Surly with the quick link inside the lead if the fish goes off at an angle or comes back over the lead the link will catch inside the lead ,until the hole in the lead is inline with the hook
  10. Is the idea behind a running rig that the carp does not feel the lead at all ?

    Amnesia?

Can i ask why would you want to add all the extra to the top rig what do you gain from all the tubing ?
  12. I would hope that would be fine , i'd bet no one checks anyway
  13. Hi all, fishing there next weekend and due to many unforeseen circumstances haven't had a chance to even go there and have a look . Any information would be appreciated , thanks,John.
  14. Not quite, the winning pair had 2400lb a new 48hr record. The total for all of the teams was over 9000lb , what ever way you look at it quite amazing
  15. I think making a list is the way to go, every time you think of something add it to the list , i have one stored on the computer for overnighters it includes everything down to pot noodles , different items of clothing and cutlery . Before the list i managed to leave such items as trolley handles , alarms, plates , cups and lord knows what else.

    Crimps

Why? I don't see what difference it makes. Although I would crimp it on a tight line so you didnt lose diameter under tension from stretch. Me personally, I'm not convinced but I was not convinced by splicing lead core and that worked. I think pop ups are un natural but they work also. As does having the bait on a hair, I didn't like the idea of hat much either. I'll buy a set in about 3 years once im sure they are ok Because they say so-The Krimps and Krimp tool have been designed to allow easy rig construction with stiff materials (at the moment we only recommend Hybrid Stiff and Mouth Trap). Pasted from their web site

    Crimps

I think you will find they are not made to use with mono line
  18. Well i've seen them on the internet for that kind of money but was not sure as to what i would be getting. Ended up paying £3/pint when buying 2 gallons (some frozen some chilled) so i would say if they turn out to be ok and they are riddled then you have yourself a bargain.
  19. The first thing i will say is don't treat this lake as a guaranteed to catch noddy water many have made that mistake . The fish have been hammered for years now and are quite happy to go to areas not being fished so setting up and waiting for the fish to come to you doesn't always work . Fine set up camp for the night but move around in the day bait up the margins ,keep looking bait goes fish the swim . We have always favoured yellow and red baits but in truth they will of seen every bait known .If the weed is back don't be afraid to lob a method feeder into the middle of it ,zigs will also work on a day . i would get a copy of the contour map available from M&B contour mapping it's a good start. Remember the are no facilities ecept the porta loo's and as far as i know no one delivers food
  20. With the booking system if you book you will get a swim you just don't know which one (unless you have the gold card ) yes it gets busy in the warmer months as do most carp fisheries , last weekend there was us and 2 guys piking on Friday , Sunday we found some fish at the top of the lake and went stalking reasonably sure our bivvies were still going to be there when we returned
  21. This will be our second year at Menards ( only fished once last year ) got gold cards just before Christmas and done our 1st 48 hrs last weekend not everybody's cup of tea but a good head of nice fish, it's a safe place to fish with a few home comforts
  22. Not being funny but with out alot more info there is no way anybody can give an answer to this .
