  1. Is this fish from the RH stables ha ha ha
  2. In a few weeks time i should have a rod shot with a difference, i commissioned a gentleman to build me a split can 1lb 2oz avon rod
  3. This forced weight gain is just wrong, just a money making venture to put monster carp into lakes to pull the paying angler into trying for them, its not for me, i would take 30lb proper fish any day
  4. the usual advice on bait is to choose a half decent one and stick with it, get the fish in your place you fish to start accepting it
  5. Deano, welcome mate, good to have you on here
  6. Yes i do have some collectable tackle Mitchell reels and a lot of centre pins even some of my floats from course fishing are old vintage. Also i agree about the lakes going quiet so my next trip out is on canal as we have some private pegs and target fish are perch, carp and Gudgeon
  7. welcome back, im same as you having recently returned after something like 14 year break
  8. Live bait like a small roach or similar sorts the big ones, and they can suck in a surprisingly large live bait, but it goes against the grain for me, i work on catch and release not catch and impale on even bigger hook, some might think it wrong to put a lob on hook (wife does) but i dont have a problem drowning worms
  9. it fell to a good old fashioned lobworm fished on stick float set up at the time i had (and foolishly sold) a TFG Matt Hayes X1 river and stream 1lb avon rod and the big perch put a right bend in that classic rod
  10. Yes Perch are a lovely fish, always thought if they grew to 25lb no one would fish for carp lol, im lucky enough to of caught a 4 1/4 lb perch, hell of a fish
  11. Its hard to think, and makes me feel rather old that i used to fish this little river maybe 46 years ago but more to the point i used to err "poach" in the old stew pond this river flows through to catch eel, roach rudd and more important proper old wild carp and of course lots of Perch, those were happy days indeed
  12. I used to use ESP Crystal but just cant get it now, shame, i tried a couple of lines and ended up using budget NGT camo line having done a few pull to break tests using digital latching scales it does seem to hold up to stated BS and is thinner in diameter than a lot of lines, can get bulk spools for about £9 posted, im now happy with this product
  13. and another good perch video
  14. cant beat a big stripey
  15. Here is my latest purchase i scored this haul of 9 in number vintage strikeright centrepin reels all in original box`s some have paperwork in box 7 of them look as new the other 2 are in nice used condition, i cant say what i payed for this job lot but it was a very keen price indeed but i wont be keeping them as i do see a rather nice profit from them that will help offset some of the money i have spent this last few months
  16. Welcome aboard and great avatar JW was a true legend
  17. Glad you posted these, i was going to put some on, cant beat a good Terry tale about his amazing captures and campaigns

    Perch

So the Carp at the lake im fishing are just not playing ball, oxygen levels are low in all 3 lakes, so for a while im gonna dabble on the canal, we are lucky to have a private peg only accessible from the main lake complex so its on opposite side to towpath, seems Perch can go to over 3lb, also carp in canal so gonna put a hair rig boilie out for Carp and then float fish for Perch
  19. Ha ha your getting these as well, i quite like them
  20. the gopro or action camera can send live video using a transmitter called a VTX from RC FPV so live view real time to a small colour monitor. Im tempted to get one of the super cheap bait boats and fit a clear panel in the hull to mount live view action cam to
  21. NGT centrepin reel arrived today paid £29 new and have to say it is sweet, spins for ages and silky smooth, loaded it up with 10lb Sensor clear mono will be used for carp in small pond and on canal
  22. You could do a set of 3 for about £100 but you would be buying each reel separate on ebay also you need to make sure bail arm is healthy and working as it should, but they are easy to service and spares are still about, of course it was the 300 that Richard Walker caught the 44lb record carp
  23. Any one on here use old school gear, i had a rummage in the loft and got my old Mitchell 410A reels down, i was expecting them to have suffered being stored for so long, but to my surprise they work sweet and smooth and the overall condition is way better then i hoped, these reels along with the older 300 reels were the start of carp fishing reels, and this pair are lovely to say they are close to 50 years old
  24. has the tideflow got a little flat bit of metal that might push in to release the spool, see pic
