Tbh in 15 lb @ 0.38 dia. the Chameleon aint a bad line bud. You'll get away with the 12 if you don't have too much weed in the picture.
Unless you've had issues or face an angling situation that requires a change you may as well stick with it. It's a decent reliable line.

I agree - never had an issue with the knotless knot with braid. Just make sure the first turn around the shank of the hook, is away from the join

I had a wander round last year with a mate. We did actually drive up to the house, turn around in the yard, back to the car park and then wait around to see if anyone would 'apprehend' us so we could ask if it was ok to look first, but after waiting for some 20minutes with no-one around, had a wander anyway. Our choice was to go elsewhere as we couldn't see anything that interested us.

It looks a nice set of lakes, some bubbling, tree surrounded, but no showing fish on the surface at the time.

I know my mate Big Dave has fished it in the past, and he never caught anything much bigger than doubles, I think his biggest was around 15.

salokcinnodrog got a reaction from newmarket in Anyone got any reviews on the trakker tempest v2 bivvy
This amuses me, probably for the wrong reasons.

A raised edge on the front bar, i.e the bar inside the material sleeve, the bar above the door having material joining it to the front all the way along will stop water coming inside the bivvy, strictly speaking there is no need for a peak on a bivvy.

A peak helps if you set up facing the weather, in theory it reduces rain getting into the front of your bivvy. However a stronger wind can blow rain droplets into your bivvy, whether you have a peak or not.

The peak on many modern domes seems to be a part porch, or a cut down porch, with no storm sides.

Not being funny, but I could not justify the money for Trakker, despite having the option to buy them through work!

Wafter, the latest name for an extremely critically balanced bait

Seriously you could argue semantics, but to me a wafter should sink, but extremely slowly of its own accord, or have a neutral buoyancy, it would stay in what level of water it was put in.
If it doesn't sink, but sits on the surface, then it is a pop-up!

That slow sinking bait is going to be lighter than the freebies, and will be more easily sucked in than the free baits, and the hook will follow it in due to the hair.

A bait that sinks with the weight of the hook, but would normally float, is a pop-up, even if the weight of the hook overbalanced it.
Various hooks have different masses or weights, so a pop-up that is sunk by a size 6 Mugga is more likely to pop-up a size 10 101.

I had some so-called wafters, that lifted the hair on a size 6, so I used them on a size 10 as a zig  To me a wafter has to be neutrally buoyant or its a poor pop up!!

Neal . I reckon that if the only chance you get to fish at Bayeswater is day sessions at Weekends then you are going to be continuously banging your head against a brick wall and therefore up against it all the time .
Maybe it's not like it Tuesday-Wednesday time but I bet it is .
Its regional popularity puts it on a par with The linears & yateleys of this world Essex style .

And when I say that I'm referring to the fact that it's always banged out especially Spring-Autumn as I know nothing about the stock .

Not bad mouthing the place , just commenting on its busyness shall we say , but when you are only there for the day you need so much to go in your favour .
If the place wasn't owned by Nash's bait guru then you might stand half a chance as it wouldn't be so busy .
If you could fish longer sessions and arrive on a Thursday or a Monday/Tuesday you not only would have more options with regards location you may also be in with a chance of benefitting from any significant change in the weather ie setting up where a new wind is forecast tomorrow for example .

Nobody wants you to succeed there more than I do mate , you know that , but I think there have to be better options for YOU at the present time in Suffolk/Essex.

But then what do I know , I don't even go fishing

For fishing semi fixed use a run ring and tight line.
For fishing a running lead fish a run ring and slack line.

    Keep it simple.

Especially as I think lead clips are the spawn of the devil and should be banned

I reckon it can, especially over gravel or smooth hard sand or clay lake beds.

Not just hemp, it can happen with boilies!

I was sitting in the snags at Brackens hand feeding boilies, and watched a carp swirl off that I hadn't originally seen as I dropped a boilie on its nose. It didn't spook spook, but as it moved away before coming back, it's tail swipe lifted a number of boilies off and up into the water, which then dropped back down in a random manner to the bottom; I say random, but you could see the current created by the carps tail.

A very critically balanced hookbait and rig may then be ignored as it didn't behave in the same manner, being tethered by the lead, compared to the boilies that looked like an explosion going everywhere.

I actually got to the stage that I preferred over weighted pop-ups!
A total contradiction of the paragraph above, about the tethering and movement, but that does often work better with a bed of particles or groundbait, sitting very low to the deck where fish are taking mouthfuls of bait by close vacuuming, just taking in mouthfuls of detritus as well as food.

    What's a wafter?
    Critically balanced to me.

Seriously I bet no matter how you think your hook and bait is sitting, the reality is very different, unless you place them in by hand!

I honestly don't bother with how a wafter sits on the lakebed, as long as the hook sinks the bait, just!
I have actually tested some that took almost a minute to sink in a full bath, seriously critically balanced

Actually what rigs you use may occasionally change the hooking potential; I think pop-ups and wafters are far more critical to be rig savvy than bottom bait rigs, because a bottom bait rig most important is the hair length. With pop-ups and wafters you aren't likely able to rely on that as you aren't feeding or fishing the same.

these days the way to build a rig is to have a look at what Danny, Kev and all the others sell for terminal tackle then buy the lot.
then you have to get on the bank and see how many components you can squeeze into the one rig and that is the one you will catch on

or!!! you could just keep it simple

Not competent.... What a load of rubbish!! I was told the day I looked at it the first time it is not an easy water... Which is a good thing as you know you have worked for your prize, as for not fishing/spooking fish..... You could always lead about and take notes in one swim bait it up then fish a different swim ie the shallows where you know some spots and then if you see signs in the other swim move....failing that you have gained info on another swim for next time. And I will happily share any info that I find out with you a) because I'm nice like that [emoji23] and b) because your a nice chap oh and c) because one of us if not both needs to show that infamous Bayswater carp do exist [emoji6]

Anyway, if anything I've said on this or any other thread has come across as unconsidered or argumentative then I apologise, and assure you, it is unintentional.

There are so many opinions, so many rules, so many options available. Some lakes have barbed hooks only, some barbless only. Some bean mats only, some cradles only. Some safe zone only, some no safe zone. Etc etc etc. I think it's fair to say that any conscientious carp angler considers the safety of their quarry when setting up in any fishing situation. There is inherent risk to the fish just by fishing for it. i guess what we've experienced personally is what shapes what we see as safe or not.

On a weed and snag free lake a 10ft shock leader is not long enough, you need around 12 feet to prevent snap-offs.
Again on a clear water where you need a fluorocarbon leader for 'invisibility', 10ft is around right I reckon.

Sorry mate, I really think you need to think your arguments through properly.

As an aside, and in response to Mooseman, I refuse to use Lead clips for various reasons. I don't often want to eject the lead, I use generic swivels, as in I don't buy one end tackle manufacturers bits, I have a variety that suits, and I don't think that I should be forced to buy overpriced swivels from Korda, Nash or Fox just to suit a lead clip, or I use a tail rubber for more than one purpose, and so have loads of tail rubbers, but why would I buy Nash tail rubbers when I already have plenty just to suit his lead clip.

As he says, a lead clip tail rubber can be jammed on by a bit of weed, the leadcore on a pendant or inline set-up is a danger in itself, even if the lead comes off, the leadcore is an inherent trailing weight.
Basically leadcore should only ever be used with a heli set-up, and even then, you have to be sure that the beads and rig can be ejected, as a kink can trap a standard bead, stopping the rib coming off the end.

On that helicopter set-up, you actually rely on the lead NOT being ejected, so that rig CAN be ejected!
