Well I do occasionally… one or two of my swims are lined with ballast, which after a wet winter set to concrete, so no sticks will get in there! I used cygnet sticks in the past, now I’ve got some stainless but I forget which make, but they were around £12 a stick, they’ve lasted ages. I’ve had cheap sticks in the past, but it is a wasted expense. Buy cheap buy twice. If I want to make a pilot hole, I’ll use either a threaded bivvy peg or a storm stick, they seem to work out quite well.

I use a brolly all year round, in the colder months I will some times use the front and a groundsheet 👍

On the reservoir I was fishing last night some guy had what I believe was two trakker tempest bivvies with a middle skin so it made one massive bivvy. Next to it he had a green toilet tent set up... 200 yards down the bank you have multiple toilets, showers etc 🤷‍♂️😂

So I always try to make myself as invisible as possible on the bank, no matter where the fishery is..
People wearing bright colours in the countryside annoy me to the point that when I see roadside walkers wearing the compulsory yellow or orange, I want to run them over!.
Summer in the UK does not need a shelter, winter is entirely different.
This photo was taken of me on a seriously secret squirrel fishery in the south some years ago, well before the circus got there and ruined the place.

I only use a 50” oval brolly, if it’s needed, I haven’t used my proper bivvy in years. I asked a few fisheries why they don’t allow tents etc, their reply was simple, it came down to insurance - they are not running a campsite their insurance apparently won’t allow tents. How true that it is and what the legal difference between a blue tent and a green bivvy is, I couldn’t say!

My local park lane deepens down rapidly to about 7 foot a rod length out. I drag a lead through the margins until I feel the rise and then tighten the rod to the lead until the tip is on the surface and I've found the transition. The loose feed is then fed about a foot further out. The far bank trees always get targeted by most other anglers and I've normally got one rod there and the other is in the margins. Don't let on but the margin rod often outfishes the other!

    Check with the fishery.
If the weather is dry enough, maybe no need for a tent for an overnight session, so nobody is any the worse off.
As @newmarket puts it, I'm a lunatic, but sleeping under the stars is fine.
In terms of the tents, olive green is more country coloured over the blue. Come to that though, ridge tents or dome style?
That in itself is a fun one as if you have a low green dome tent you could 'get away with it'.

Another epic tale Newmarket ! .
It's like watching your favourite soap , wondering what is going to happen to the hero next .
    I can also think " oh , I've got that problem , how will Newmarket deal with it ? 🤔 " .
    😃

I've still got Solar Lockey Stainless rests. Refoamed a few times!

Think I could sell them and my Quiverlocs for more than I paid for them!

My Century NG's actually had a 'ball' on the butt section behind the reel seat, to stop the rod being pulled forward off the rest. I discovered it meant that I didn't actually need to use a rear rest.

Did a 24 hour on Wednesday and it was hot. I prefer my brolly system to a bivvy as it fits in the rod quiver and is less to take and set up. Didn't bother with the overwrap as it was so mild. Plastered on the sun cream. legionnaires cap to protect my neck and spent most of the day sat in the shade in the trees that surround the swim and drank cups and cups of orange squash. Still got a touch of sunstroke and had a headache yesterday!

Years ago we had a thread going called 'Complicated rigs', it covered a session I had on Ardleigh, then broke into a long discussion on lead set-ups, various rigs, and whether we made things more complicated than they need to be.
While I do play around with rigs, I do catch more on a bog standard line aligner usually knotless knotted rig.
I may have a sliding ring on the hookshank and tie the hook on with a line aligner, this is more often so I can change the hair length to suit the feeding and hooking of the fish, but this also means I can use a pop-up or bottom bait on exactly the same rig without much faffing.
Too many carp anglers forget that getting the carp to feed is more important than the rig is. If the carp are feeding comfortably what is an 'ineffective' rig according to experts, fails the palm or thumb test, can actually be effective hooking the fish. Equally if a super effective rig is in the wrong place and the carp aren't feeding then it will not work.

My personal view is that 'effective' rigs are needed when we aren't feeding properly to get the fish comfortable on our spot, or aren't baiting (maybe prebaiting) enough of our bait.

2 nights, no need for a bivvy.
Not the tidiest I must admit, but everything is in order and reach

Baseball cap, sunglasses, and already tanned skin, plenty of water.

The messy bit is in the top section, but I know it is all in there:
Leads, leader and hooklink materials, forceps, Greased Lightning, 2 bottles of Klinik, cutlery, toothbrush and toothpaste, along with packets of beads, shrink tube, silicon and rig tubing and finally PVA bags and string.

The current lead total is at 15 3oz and 10 3.5oz.

The 2 drawers are actually tidy, each is compartmentalised and everything goes in its place.

Your rig pic with a pop-up gives very similar properties to the Bent Hook rig, but with no mouth damage.
Difficult to eject, nice low lying pop-up, close to freebies.

salokcinnodrog got a reaction from S34MH1 in Which is the best Back Lead?
I must admit I am not a fan of backleads, to me the only place to use them is to keep lines away from boats.

I have used them in the past to keep lines down in tight swims, but noticed indication was much reduced.
Captive backleads are probably the best way to not lose them as long as they do drop off on the take or as you lift the rod up.
I used to add and screw in Solar Indicator clips to a slightly drilled out 1oz inline lead, and a small closed steel screw eye then along came Gardner Captive backleads, which solved my problems with boaties.

    Try that with a pop-up 😉
You want the hook sat on the kicker with the pop-up sitting nicely tight to the hookshank, so the hookbait lifts everything up vertical.

Pinch a pair of tights,  put a few in there to normal size, cut that section free, tie and heat seal, then tie to hook.
