  1. Matt, have you seen it on Google Earth? It's got to be an old estate lake, the road leading near it is called Castle Lane and G.E. shows the remains of a very large building, overlooking the lake. The Castle remains, maybe? I've driven past there many times and always slowed to look, like you do. If you should find out if we can fish it please let me know. Ian
  2. Add Shrewley Pool the the list. One rod.......is one too many. Ian
  3. Martyn, you're right about Merrington. I understand that it was stocked with carp from Wellington Park, a fishery known for it's immaculate but wary fish. I've fished there on several occasions and every fish I've seen or caught has been in perfect condition. There's a resident Barn Owl that's quite tame and will forage close by if you're quiet. Nice, peaceful place. Ian
  4. Mike, have you considered Merrington Fishery? It's a very tranquil place to be and while it's not a runs water, when you do catch it's worth the effort. It's near Bomere Heath in Shropshire. Google it, mate. And use lobworms for bait. Trust me. Ian
  5. Mutilated is the perfect adjective when related to the fish at this money-making machine that passes as a fishery. I fished there once. After a hour I'd caught some fish and ALL looked like mutants. I left and will never, under any circumstances, return. Mike, fish elsewhere, mate. Or you'll have bad dreams. Ian
  6. What a cracking weekend in great surroundings and even better company. To sit watching Red Kites, Kestrels and other assorted predatory birds plying their craft was worth the price of admission. Hands up, I caught nothing. Andy52 had several good fish, all pristine and beautifully scaled. Stoogi and Hopefull had one each. Over riding thought is that this is one lovely place to be. Second thought is that I shall be going back there, soonest. Third thought is that I'm still in recovery from the sheer laughter involved in fishing with these people. Blakemere? I commend it to you. There is no spin, please believe me. Ian
  7. My son's had some good fish using it, he frequently takes some with him. I also frequently take some but ALWAYS eat it myself. It's too nice for fish. Ian
  8. I've seen some which were of a good size. Just by Hams Hall syndi water.....the one that got flooded by the Blythe a few years back lol. Ian
  9. Dave, what does membership cost and how long is the waiting list, please? I live very close to the place and it could be useful. Ian
  10. A good point, well made. The Internet can be informative and misleading in equal measures. I'm one of the party who'll be fishing there with stoogi in May. Ian : Not casting any views on any of the members that may be on that trip Ian, but you do know that there is no alcohol allowed at the venue!!! Neil, as you can imagine, that topic has been discussed amongst us. I conclude that it'll do us good to go without for a couple of nights. Just not them nights. Possibly Ian
  11. A good point, well made. The Internet can be informative and misleading in equal measures. I'm one of the party who'll be fishing there with stoogi in May. You may be sure of an accurate appraisal of the venue upon our return. I'm looking forward to fishing there, and to the company of those I'll be fishing with. I feel that it's fair to say that the place has hardly been open long enough to have generated much feedback but await any further information with interest. Ian
  12. Danny, have a look on www.Fisheries.co.uk Spoilt for choice, mate. Good luck with the driving test. Ian

Good, comprehensive, answer! Ian
  14. Yeah, you followed me Hey, when I asked you which way you'd travelled to get to my house you had no idea. "I followed the Satnav". And you used satnav to get to Merrington. For your fourth visit It's 15 miles from your home. Ian
  15. The Great Ouse, immediately south of central St Neots. There's a large public park with a good stretch of bank available. I was there during the close season so couldn't try for the carp I watched casually mooching right in the margin, showing no fear of me or my dogs. I'm going back there this year. After June 16th. Ian
  16. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke, as it goes. Really looking forward to the upcoming social. I do hope it stays dry. I'd got the start of webbed feet when I got home from the last one. Oh, and if Jez offers to lead the way with his Satnav, don't do it! I started off from home following him yet got there 10 minutes before him. I'd got a low-tech map. Ian
  17. Can't help, sorry, but I've noticed this water myself whilst towing our caravan. I shall be interested to view replies as there's a nice little caravan site quite near. Ian
  18. Carl, you're a fool. And that's one of your good points. Ian
  19. John, was the stickleback of specimen size? Joking aside, it's far worse than anyone thought, then. Ian
  20. I love daft posts from daft people. This has been one of them. Ian
  21. CC, here's a thought. The weather is positively Spring like, the gentle breeze is from the South West. Ideal, I'd have thought. Why not fish it and let us know how you fared? Good luck, mate. Ian
  22. Seething undercurrent is a good summary. She's entirely unsuited to be dealing with people. Any people, matchmen or otherwise. Loathsome is a description that comes to mind. Frequently. Ian
  23. Very nice. I refuse to fish there, ever again, having been verbally abused by the wretched woman that runs the place. I can't help wondering how many others she's driven away. It's not like she owns the place, she's employed by British Waterways, the REAL owners! Ian
  24. Hey, I know what you mean! Welcome to this cracking forum and take a look at www.Fisheries.co.uk Loads of choice. Ian
