  1. Dreamcarp, click on Kim's link, follow it up and drive to Vire en Chamagne for the best week of your angling life. You will not regret your choice, trust me. Ian
  2. We recently installed some wrought iron handrails in the rear garden of a house in Amington, not far from Polesworth. The garden backs onto the Coventry Canal and the owner, a non-angler, told us that he frequently sees fish "as long as your arm" in there. My son showed him a picture of a carp, photographed from above. "That's the fellers" was the reply. Ian
  3. Thanks for that welder I have seen it on that website too there is alittle bit of info on there but what I was after is abit of anglers knowledge of the place. Iam not asking for anyone to give away there secrets about the place but I would like to know what gets them going and what parts of the lake have been producing. I have my eye on one or two swims on there after I went for a walk around yesterday just wondering if my instincts are still intact lol. Trust your instincts, find the fish, feed them and catch them. It's fairly open ground around there so I'd check out the wind direction upon arrival. I'd face a warmer breeze and fish under my rod tips. A cooler wind would find me fishing off the back of it and looking for sheltered areas as fish holding havens. Hey, just go and fish it and let us know how you fared. Enjoy! Ian
  4. Hi Willow, I know nothing about this fishery but I've just looked it up on www.fisheries.co.uk and it certainly looks and sounds like a cracking place. £20 a night is entirely reasonable and stock levels are good. I might have a go on there myself later this year. I'm glad you asked the question! Ian Edit. Just had a look at the place on Google Earth. Very nice, out in the back of beyond and surrounded by open countryside.
  5. Nathan, it's more proactive fishing in that you're actually doing something rather than waiting for something to happen, and, of course, it's far more fun! We all need fun in fishing otherwise why bother? Ian
  6. Steve, try all of the above but use a 1.5lb test barbel rod! It's proper sport, talk about getting a bend in your rod... Even a 6lb common feels like you've hooked a monster. I've always enjoyed mixing old techniques with modern. It's my age.............. Ian
  7. Chadz, may I say that it's really refreshing to hear from an angler who's prepared to admit that he feels the need for a learning curve? I'm impressed, and delighted to sense the obvious pleasure that you're getting from your fishing. Good man! Enjoy your fishing, it's a great way of wasting time. Ian
  8. Been there, done that. There is very little in angling that can be described as new. Just new takes on well established techniques to be candid. Just realised....I sound like my Dad. That's ok though, I learned a lot from him. Ian
  9. I've been doing it for about 50 years now. Ian
  10. You're pretty well assured of catching at Barston Lake. There are some decent size carp in there along with lots of smaller ones. Worth a look? Ian
  11. BLESSSSSSSSSS! Ian
  12. Jules, please do. Something a bit different. Ian
  13. Lol no worries Kim, so looking forward to it now, its gonna be a long year waiting though Peter, it's worth the wait, trust me. When I win the Euromillions I'm going to buy Rushes Lake. And pay extra for Kim to stay on there and feed me. Ian
  14. That was from my home in Warwickshire, NOT Calais, and we zigzagged across most of England picking people up. I have to say that it was 21 hours of laughing. Ian
  15. Well, first I have to ask my granddaughter's permission.......then go to ramming speed. Ian
  16. Go on then. Nothing whatsoever to do with fishing but a topic close to my heart. My 1937 Morris 8, all dressed up for my son's wedding last year. There's a tale behind this. If anyone is at all interested I'll add to this thread. Ian
  17. Spat cider. Have you seen the price of cider.........? Ian
  18. Jake and Dexter, chocolate labs. The pic was taken a few years ago but still they're healthy, happy and daft as brushes. We also have an identical pair of long blonde-haired cats which sleep with the dogs at night, all sharing a large duvet. It's a lovely sight TBH. Ian
  19. awesome bird mate. used to fly her in the woods near me, somehow i got permission off the council to fly her in the woods lol. a farmer let me fly her on his land as well, as long as there were no lambs about in case she decided to have one for dinner lol Close relative of Harry Potter, then. Hedwig, by any chance? Ian
  20. Dave, the best advice I could offer would be to Google "cheap van hire, Sheffield." There's a world of information on Google. Recovery insurance and overseas travel insurance are separate side issues. Both worthy of consideration. Factor both into your final cost figure. Been there, done that. Ian
  21. Hi Ian I guess you are our moderator, so thanks for the welcome. What did you mean by "other", surely ALL links are either banned or permitted. I have a special reason for asking. I live in Costa Blanca and also have a "holiday" home on the banks of the Ebro. Last November I was travelling with a mate in France, we discovered Les Kaolins in Brittany and had a good 5 days session there even though the weather was really bad. Les Koalins is owned by an English couple who, as it turned out, have a holiday home in the town where I live - an amazing coincidence! But the remainder of the story is even more amazing. Neither of them are anglers and they don't even have the foggiest idea but they did stock one of the lakes around 3 years ago and have been feeding them ever since. They built shower blocks and converted the Chateau into an anglers kitchen and dining room. Terry is a ex-chef and provided us with some amazing meals delivered to our swims. In all that time the lakes have only been fished 6 times. I want to help them all I can. Perhaps I should get them to join this forum and warn them about linking? All the best and thanks for your help. Mike Mike, you're welcome. Why not do as you suggest? Mention this forum to the people you refer to and I feel sure that they'd benefit from constructive discussion. Ian
  22. Mike, trust me, I shall not be moderating you for discussing fishing. Links to other French fisheries aren't allowed but open discussion is what this forum is all about, so get on with it! Oh, and welcome to the forum. Ian
  23. Scrape the moss off, first. From the inside! Ian
  24. That's sneaky. I like sneaky. Ian
  25. Sapphire is good if you're into train spotting. Ian
