  1. Rob, be aware that unregistered fisheries in France are illegal. If the authorities decide to pay a visit, like the EA Bailiffs do in UK, you genuinely run the risk of a big fine AND confiscation of all your gear. Think on, mate. Ian
  2. I'll have a look on eBay, Neil. Thanks. That idea of injecting flavour into PVA bags would never have occurred to me. Good one! Ian
  3. I'm fairly sure that the very first question I asked on this forum was about using a syringe to help in popping up lobworms. I've forgotten what the replies were. Where do I buy a suitable syringe, please? Ian
  4. Have a look at the top of the page. You'll see "You have no new messages". Click that bar and all will be revealed. Top of that page, type in the user name of whoever you want to send a Private Message to. Scroll down a little and type in your message. Doddle. Even I can do it. Ian
  5. Agree with Mick (leggs). The tunnel is very, very efficient and entirely affordable. I've also done Rushes twice and the second time, using the tunnel, was far more reasonable, cost wise. Rushes Lake is a lovely place to be and the food package really is to die for. If you go there please give Kim and Iain my best regards. As has been said, have no apprehension about driving in France. The highway system is very good and the standard of driving, particularly lane discipline, is much better than at home. Ian
  6. Well, ask and you shall receive. Gentlemen, thank you, no shortage of food for thought. I've just bought some of the Avid Carp Flying Chod Beads off eBay, the ones Chris suggested. I like the idea of using them as, like Carl Beza, I prefer to use slack lines and these should act to pin down the terminal end of things well. I'm from the "keep it simple" school of thought so will, in future, initially try the doubled-back bait band idea from Del and/or Mick's suggestion of using a short length of fine braid as an artificial hair. This would offer the opportunity to vary the distance between bait and hook to suit circumstances. Also like Andy's idea of the bait screw tied with floss to the ring on my pre-tied rigs. Hey, I'm never too old to learn and what better school than this forum? Ian
  7. Nige, can I assume that the added weight of the mini swivel is overcome by the bouyancy of the hookbait? Ian
  8. I use the bore rings also, quick and easy, but I know a lot of people buy ready made chod rigs, so using the bore rings is not an option. Tie the ring on with some bait floss I should have said that I'm currently using the ESP pre-tied rigs. Ian
  9. Mick persuaded me that I ought to try chod rigs (I know that silt rigs is their true title but I don't care). Tried it and caught a couple of nice Nige's. I've got my head around the noose type of knot for tying pop up/tictac/whatever to the ring at the shank of the hook, using bait/dental floss but I've got big, clumsy fingers and find tying them on the bank to be a pain. Is there a more user-friendly method I can use, please? I'm thinking about some sort of bait band or similar. Grateful for all suggestions and advice. Ian
  10. Longleat? There are Rhinos there. Malc (Mach3), a daft member of this forum, got chased by one. Oh how we laughed. Ian
  11. Coppice Lane, down near Burntwood? Try the older lake, can't remember what it's called. I've had some good fish out of there and once got proper smashed up by something large, even though I was using 15lb line, straight through. It's a very pleasant place and seldom gets mad busy. Ian
  12. I've heard similar but only heresay. There was a thread/question along similar lines to this one a while back. I'm hopeless with the Search facility, perhaps someone else can find the reference. Ian
  13. Del, can you tell me what benefit increased salinity gives, please? I know jack about this and it's high time that I knew. Ian
  14. Getting sandbags ready for your workshop? Ian
  15. Great minds and all that! Fosters have another syndicate water near you. It's an old estate lake in the grounds of Little Aston Hall. The hall is now converted to apartments which cost around a million quid each so the area is fairly exclusive. I've never fished it but my son and I have installed lots of wrought iron gates, railings etc in the area and have walked around the lake a couple of times. It's a very pretty place and secure. I'd love to have a go at it. Ian
  16. Pop into Fosters of Birmingham and ask the question. They own, or have the rights to, several syndicate waters, one of which is on your doorstep. Penns Lake at the back of what was Penns Hall. Or you could have a look at Hams Hall. PM carp.john for information. Ian
  17. I agree. It'll be my 2nd home next year A cracking, superbly run facility. I shall be happy to pay several return visits. Sandhurst may offer a stronger chance of a large fish though. All in all, I favour Cromwell. Big fish, very, very well run and immaculately maintained fishery. Ian
  18. Hands off Beaver Pool! Several of us like it just as it is, thanks. There is no shame whatsoever. Ian
  19. yes It's not much more for a van when you consider the fact that passengers aren't counted as part of the cost. We had 5 people and 6 lots of gear in Big Red. I thought that, head for head, the train was cheap. Ian
