    Hooked on a water

Takes me back to my teens, I got a season ticket for a small res that my neighbour would take me to, we must of done over hundred nights on it only for him to catch a hand full of fish and me only to have 1 small double figure carp and an eel 🀣 It taught me to have some patience but yeah safe to say I didn't renew my ticket 🀣

    January catch report

Here's my first fish of the year. Was -4 to start the session. Had a run, lifted into it but nothing on the end( thinking small fish with just bait in its mouth ). Then for the next few hours I could see my line pulling tight n slackening back off but not actually taking. Turns out pva wasn't melting (my mix of condensed milk and manilla being over cooked n like caramel stopping the PVA dissolving)(first time trying condensed milk). About 4pm I seen a fish show to the right of me, nowhere near where I was fishing so I quickly boshed a chod together and within 30mins, boom, fish on. Managed to land a 17.32 mirror saving me a blank. Not massive but always nice to get a winter carp

Sounds like a wicked bit of water mate, shame about the bailiff though, seems like a bit of a jobs worthπŸ‘Ž Would it be possible to get the rules in writing so you can argue it? I would contact the club/owner while he's there and just state he's making up rules that are not in place πŸ€” try not let him win and put you off fishing it mate, could be a fish of life time in there waiting to be caught πŸ‘ There's a common on my res that came out last the beginning on last year just over 37lb, after seeing pictures of it, that is my target fish now and I'm keen to get back up there πŸ’ͺ my current pb of 33lb is from there, would be cool if I could catch it again this year, maybe at a bigger weight 😏🀣

    Hooked on a water

Many waters are classed as night waters, like my syndicate, yet at times fish come out at all times of the day. I had a 5 day/night session last year where a couple of fish came out just before first light, yet the majority of my 6 fish came out late afternoon or early evening. I actually had 2 blank days with nothing caught. Stalking has put extra fish on the bank, wandering around with a floater or stalking rod. That has been my standard fishing for over 30 years, catching 'bonus' fish during the day and the static rods at night. First light putting baits into patches of bubbling fish, or seeing fish in the margins and lowering baits to them, or putting in plenty of dog biscuits to get them on top. It is a whole lot easier if the water is close to home!

    Rod Shots

Hello Jules I use Garcia Mitchell 301 reels , and I always have my anti reverse off . Perhaps you have the clutch on your 410 set to give line easily ? . I'm worried that if you get a violent bite your lovely new rod would go flying . πŸ˜ƒ

If you are not likely to get a night ticket it may be worth looking at stalking the fish come the better weather, im planning to do this on my local water

We had one strutting about like Terry Hearn coz he had a few out the easier lakes, came on the main lake and 30+ blank nights later he's a broken man, and now an annoying sheep πŸ‘ lol Didnt see him after a while 🀣 Pointed a rifle at my mate on the small lake, not sure how he got away with that one looking back, he's still seething now 🀣

Strangely enough on Nazeing the bailiffs were the opposite side of the coin. They did do a ticket check almost every day. In the rules it was 'no wading' so when I had a fish snag me up I did go in for it to get it out from the undercut where it had caught up in the roots. The bailiff had heard my alarm and came round to help and approved my actions. He also took the pics of the bionic common that was only just 20lb. Another bailiff would happily tell you (or me) where they were baiting, and while I never knowingly went into the swim if I did know, I did once by accident on seeing a fish show. He shrugged it off as he knew how much I walked around the whole complex. Or Gary, walking around in the dark about 6pm in winter, Sky heard him and barked, so "oh Hi Nick, no worries Mate I know you have your ticket". I did have one bailiff who @kevtaylor I will use your word, mine wouldn't be so polite, troll, didn't like me fishing. I used to fish a Saxmundham Angling Club water called Loam ponds, and one of my favourite swims was right next to the 'no fishing bay, not in the rule book, but he didn't like people fishing in there. I used to sit on the ground or leaning against a tree about 2metres from my rods watching the fish swim along the treeline and go into the bay. It wound him up something chronic as I 'wasn't in my swim'. You could guarantee as soon as a car pulled into the car park, 20minutes later he would walk over. I really wound him up one day, as well as my club ticket I put the rule book in my pocket, and fished a tiny stalking swim on the far side of the bay next to the pumphouse. 20minutes after arriving, "You can't fish there". My reply was along the lines of "its a swim so yep I can". "I'm a bailiff, it's in the rules, you can't fish in the bay". Out came the rule book from my pocket and turned to specific Loam Ponds rule pages, and swim map, there was my swim marked nicely with a number 15. His face, strangely enough he never bugged Bruce or me again, although sadly the original Leney carp were lost to otters and the water was taken over by a syndicate.

That's sad you feel driven away from somewhere you like, don't want to rock the boat but equally want to smash his face in πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Bailiffs hey where do they find these trolls? They camp in the best swims, talk BS, sheep you up then try to get you out coz you're better than them - joke situation! My syndi seems to have more bailiffs than members lol

    Hooked on a water

I've got a water that is right under the skin, my current syndicate, although I'm not sure if it's Chestnut who goes 42'ish or the big uncaught common I and others have seen. 45acres with around 165 carp, so it's not overstocked, and is in a private estate. The growth rate of some of the fish has been phenomenal! Please! I really loved Alton Water and was catching a few, but the problems got me to the state of apoplexy; Eastern European anglers casting lures across anglers lines, I had the same two cast across me two days on the trot. The amount of barbecues and rubbish left on the bank got ridiculous by said Eastern anglers. I would frequently fill a bin bag and call the bailiff if I was a long way from the car park bins so he could put it in the buggy Parking became a nightmare, worrying about your car being safe. When I complained about the problems, I was told my ticket would not be renewed. Let's just say I'm not a fan of the reservoir manager or Anglian Water.

    Achieving more distance?

  23. 12ft rods can do it, so no 13ft is not an essential. A lot of 15lb lines rated at 15lb have a diameter of 0.38-0.40mm, in reality they are actually 18 or even 20lb lines. Look at lines with a 0.35mm diameter or finer. I'm comfortable giving Gardner Pro 15lb the big chuck as it stands, whereas with 15lb Daiwa Sensor I have a shockleader, it doesn't take a big chuck as well, however to get 110metres I would look and practice with and without a shockleader until you are comfortable knowing whether you need it or not. As much as I prefer the local Tackle shops, I had to get Gardner Pro online a few weeks ago, with carriage I paid Β£13.50
