I fish a small park lake of about 6 acres and it’s always full, I started scoping out rivers and recently broke the beach gear out to get a little peace! I have miles of coastline where I can always find a deserted beach quite easily. It’s easier than finishing work, heading to a lake and finding all the swims packed out, which is fairly common, especially with furlough.

    Drones

No probs Yes the fly more combo is worth the extra, just having the spare batteries etc.... As of Jan you still need to license the mini 2 due to the quality of the camera. You might also need insurance for commercial use. With the venue being on private land you would still need some form of permission be that via the club or land owner

    Drones

Not that I am an experienced drone pilot but do own a Mini 2 for personal use. You need to look at the flight restrcitions the rules change once you get over 249g (Class 0), you will need an operator license (£9 a year) and a flighers license (free), other things that come into play would be things like other anglers on the lake at the time (in some curcumstances you would need there permission before flying), is the lake on public or private land etc.. , if the pit is hit had by wind is another thing as we fish in much stronger conidtions than would be classed as acceptable to fly in, the list could go on. With regards to the drone one with a decent camera and probably some form of polarizing filters which help take the glare off the water would help.

like you say drones in the lake is bound to happen, keep the drone for work plus it would depend on the lakes think a lot have already banned drones, unless you get special permission.

I work the weekend so I can get the 2 days off in the week and hopefully get two swims close this is on day ticket waters but it doesn’t always pan out other anglers have the same idea, and carp angling is getting Sooo popular year by year Welcome to the forum 👍

    Using weights

Yes you can do that. You'll cast far enough if you need to. I wouldn't do it on big pits though as the undertow will drag your line/hookbait out of position. As for needing the lead for setting the hook as mentioned, not necessarily. I use the naked chod and it can run 5ft between lead and top bead. I can honestly say the lead 9 times out of 10 doesn't set the hook, I do.

  10. My plans for 2020 is to better my PB tench, which has stood for over 30years and went 6lb 3oz and was caught on a side hooked strawberry boilie at Lymm Dam. A good size tench for the time and area (I hadn’t learnt how to hair rig then) Still remember it like it was yesterday tbh and my club waters hold a few decent ones so it’s all systems go for that come spring. I’ve gone a bit full circle tbh and the last few seasons has seen me target different species more and more.

  11. I don't get that at all elmo. I always spend a hell of a lot of time in preparation in for my fishing (my time on the bank is so limited that even the prep is a bit of an escape for me). I love it, prepping bait, tying rigs, working yourself up and getting excited. Of course it doesn't always go how you expect it to on the bank but that doesn't mean it's a waste of energy. What it means is that on those occasions when it does go to plan you are fully prepared. Nothing left to chance. You cannot be better prepared for more situations if you do not spend the time planning. It doesn't work mate. Ultimately all we have to do on the bank is whack a rig on a spot in front of some carp. There is not that much to it. I would say 50% of the work that goes into a successful campaign is actually done at home. It's the 6 P's innit; Proper preparation prevents p*ss poor performance.

How to hit that big cast?

Must swims it would be impossible to go for a full pendulum with the long drop... but a half pendulum is doable I can remember vividly fishing a big sea open comp in South Wales in 1986 over 300 anglers + would attend and on the best marks we all fished close, the big casters would stand well back from the line of anglers and do a full pen but give a warning shout. I was looking at one of the boys winding up for a big cast when his thumb slipped off the multiplier we all ducked and wondered where the lead fell when a fluorescent green shock leader fluttered down and landed across me the lead missed me by a rod length.
