  1. Thanks for the reply. Montluçon is an almost 4 hour drive north for me, interesting maybe? Yes, the B word might be considered "swearing" on some forums! Not trying to dwell on the politics, just gets me depressed! I first read of the Lot fishing in the '70's I think. Somehow seem to have found my way here almost by accident! Anyway, it's a good place to be and glad to be into some fishing which is new to me. Just what I needed!

  2. Carpepecheur, I shall follow your threads with interest! My wife and I moved to France two years ago and are near the river Lot. We have had some good fish but only a couple of tiny carp, still have a lot to learn!

    Thought of the Day pt.2

Annoying ain't it mate, don't take long to pack an extra plastic bag for all your rubbish. I take my dog with me on most sessions and I'm always finding rigs. We came close with a rig baited with 2 fake bits of corn, but luckily she didn't eat it lol. Good news is I've sold my car and got a van yesterday. Can fish out the back of it. Buzzin 😁👍

    Carp n cats

As stated, if you are using bolies then a stinky fishmeal would be best... something with crab in it???? Or a lump of luncheon meat. Tasty to both carp and cats. One of the reasons we don't use fishmeal baits on our water is the fact that there is a massive Cat in there, along with a few Pike and Eels. We try to avoid those.

For catfish, personally I would avoid mono or fluorocarbon hooklinks, and go to coated or plain braid, although plain braid will get plucked. Length I would probably look at 150-200mm long for rigs, with around 20mm from hook to bait on hair. Bait for cats is fairly simple, 20mm pellets, 2 or 3 on the hair, gives you a chance of both species, as will any fishmeal boilie.

  6. Believe it or not, don't boil them for so long, but dry them for longer. 50/50 mixes are attractor baits, that do break down quickly anyway. You should not need to boil any mix for longer than 2 minutes maximum, better 1m 30s. Leave to dry overnight, preferably 12-24 hours.

  8. I had my first session there this week, which although I blanked, I did enjoy and learnt a bit about the water. The session was a success in itself and while there I heard some good news about a job I had been interviewed for, start next week. As soon as I got home I just wanted to get back. With my start date for work, I've managed to pencil in another trip from Saturday until Tuesday and then work the next day.

    Thought of the Day pt.2

Jus had a walk round local water park...walking past a peg with a rubbish bag and an open box of Bakers Complete (floater fishing ??)...so i put the bag in bin...picked up the box of biscuits and the bottom gave in...bag of biscuits fell out...and so did this... Not hard really to jus put rubbish in bin and tackle in your bag or box. Imagine if a dog had put its nose/mouth in the biscuits for a sniff or mouthful.
