OldBoy Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 I am assuming not many (any) waters have these now? If there are they are deff under the radar now I suspect. I did have the pleasure of catching some of the beauties back in the day from Horseshoe 😀👍 Apparently this guy is still trying to keep the strain going: https://www.leneycarp.com/ Does it matter? probably not tbh, but fair play to the bloke 👍 Quote

Sadly old age and otters may well have made them extinct in Taverham Mills. This one was caught back in the 1990's, and comes complete with porn star moustache... It was one of the fish legitimately bought from Redmire when there was a successful spawning. You would have to see the Chris Ball and Chris Yates diary of stockings that they got from Donald Leney to see. As you say, not many originals around now, and quite possibly they have regressed. The ones that became records in Redmire were original stocked fish. Quote
yonny Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 I believe there are a handful left according to Yates/Walsingham, but we will never know where they are! Roughtor 1 Quote
elmoputney Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 There is a fb group called Leney Enthusiasts, according to that I've caught shed loads of them 😂 yonny 1 Quote
Roughtor Posted Monday at 20:23 Report Posted Monday at 20:23 There are definitely still about fish from the old Surrey trout farm.. I once asked Skeff if he could search the stocking records for a water local to me,which was stocked in the mid 70s ...but he found no record of them ,I guess it will remain just a hearsay ...mind you some of the fish I had were wonderful creatures...lovely scaling on them .. kevtaylor Posted Wednesday at 11:47 Report Posted Wednesday at 11:47 (edited) We've mentioned this in a recent thread, there is a Leeny Breeder in the UK and has supplied some to Fenesmere in France who is crossing them. Cant remember his name but findable through watching Fenemere videos - he actually helps him with netting etc. Leeneys are still available in the UK to those that want them. Mill Farm Gilmorton and Beedles lake near me received Leeneys in the early 1970s - doubt any are still alive now though yonny 1 Quote

I remember turning up with all my kit on my back and there's these proper carp anglers with barrows everywhere. I loved it. I recall on my first session I hair rigged a cube of luncheon meat and hoyed it as far as I could (which wasn't far with the absolutely rubbish rods I had back then) and had one within 2 minutes. I got some right dirty looks from the proper anglers 😅 kevtaylor and Roughtor 1 1 Quote

You could hear Tom coming for his money from his house 'Mr TAYLOR' he'd bellow in my ear - happy memories, he was like a fishing dad to about 50 local kids over the years probably more, legend! My first 20 from there would have been an original leeney 😎 Edited Thursday at 09:10 by kevtaylor salokcinnodrog, Roughtor, yonny and 1 other 4 Quote

emmcee Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago There are still some true leney carp around today. My old syndicate had 5 or 6 different known Leney's still in there from a stocking done in the 60's I believe. I was fortunate enough to catch one on my second trip to the lake, the others eluded me. It was 50 plus yrs old when I caught it and that was over 10yrs ago. It was caught last year along with 2 others. So still definitely 3 in the lake and it makes them 60 plus years old. I'm pretty sure the committee of the lake have the receipt in a picture frame. This is the one i had, probably one of my most memorable captures if I think about it. Weight was irrelevant but it was 28lb 02oz. Sorry about the quality, had to take a picture of my camera screen. Quote
