They have a tendency to go wrong or misbehave just when you need them. On top of that, I believe Fox digi's don't have an off switch. The new ones have an on off switch and batterie life is excellent , over a year I guess and still going. Been using RH dials for the past 3 years or more and had no problem with them whatsoever. They can honestly be a pain, but the small size is the only thing that makes them a positive. Hard to reset to zero sometimes, getting correct measurement between pounds and ounces and kilos is not always clear. Digital scales are heavy, not necessarily the equipment inside, but actually the protection around the sensitive electronics. My dial scales live in my rucksack top pocket, and I know that they are safe. If you do insist on digital scales, I do not know why you would pay: a) carp taxed scales b) inflated Fox prices Fox scales are around £63, yet Korum digitals (another good brand) are around £30. AndyCh Posted August 12, 2018 Report Share Posted August 12, 2018 I've got two sets of RH dials and three of their 9000 digitals. I honestly haven't taken the dials out of the garage for years. If you wanted you could carry three sets of the digitals and they'd still be lighter and take up less space than the dials. For me they are a bit bulky and need protection in transit, but they are ever reliable. Here's what I use, compact and light weight, back lit so no probs in the dark and they are small enough to fit in my cradle pocket. Good price too imo….. These have served me well for 3 yrs with the same battery. They will automatically shut down after about 1 min of inactivity, and being backlit is a real bonus. The one and only flaw is purely cosmetic, after about a year, the colour dye from the neoprene case has leeched onto the rubber casing on the actual scales, looks a bit like felt pen has been wiped in, but they are blinding little scales for the price...……. I used to use Avon dial scales, but found that they could mist up in cold conditions, I never trusted dial scales after this as the condensation can leave limescale once dried up in side the casing... The bottom hook I have bent round so do not come off the scales, and removed the top hook and replaced it with a T bar weigh handle. It would be difficult to put one set of scales against another, unless one set had been recently calibrated. I will try and compare when I'm next out, if there is someone about with some dial scales...... I bought the T bar as an extra , for those thinking of buying a T bar , always buy one that Clips on to the scales , Not just hooks on .
