Ddgx Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 This should probably be in the stupid questions thread, but hey, I'd rather shamelessly plod towards a life better educated than sit here all quiet and stupid! So, what's the best way of stripping coated hooklink material, without accidentally chewing through some of the braid itself (which is what I seem to be doing 50% of the time) ? Cheers. Dan. Quote
Gaz Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 the back of a pair of scissors, you can buy tools to strip it if you wanna line someones pocket for no reason lol. Quote
newmarket Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 A lot of the time a finger nail will suffice , depends on which braid i spose Quote
Ddgx Posted November 25, 2014 Author Report Posted November 25, 2014 I find I can pull the coating off with a nail once I've made an initial break. It's that initial incision, back of some scissors! Will give it a try, knew there'd be an obvious answer! Quote
Gazlaaar Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 Use the flat side of a 50 pence piece, put the coated braid on a hard surface, place the edge of a 50 pence piece on top of the material and pull. Quote

dalthegooner Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 I line the tackle companies pockets and have a stripping tool. When I'm on the bank in the middle of the winter a little tool which works easily in cold hands is well worth it in my opinion (That and I'm a sucker for a gadget ). Quote

grangemilky Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 I use a £5 note. It doesn't work as well as a £2 coin, but I don't want to look like a cheapskate. howsey16, ianain and cyborx 3 Quote

Ddgx Posted November 27, 2014 Author Report Posted November 27, 2014 What I've noticed with this korda stuff is at the point where I strip the coating off I get some discoloration. Almost like it's altering or removing some of the colouring from the braid itself. It's only very slight but I end up with a hook length that has a few patches that have gone silvery coloured instead of black. Assuming it's not the coin I'm using rubbing off on the braid, unlikely. It's probably a powder from the coating treatment to stop it sticking. Quote
Ddgx Posted November 27, 2014 Author Report Posted November 27, 2014 Could be. I'll try nab a photo of it tomorrow if I'm allowed near my tackle box. Quote
