  1. I did mate got to the lake about 1pm couple of lads I knew were already there and said that it was half froze until around 11am. I fished til 8pm didn't have a sniff. But had a little new year social which was good. Just about to load the car get back out hopefully for a night maybe two this time if the lake has thawed now that is.
  2. Disaster before I even got gear out the car. It was still frozen solid. Just at home now thinning the gear down. Going to do the afternoon on another syndicate no night fishing on this one though hence need less gear. Figers crossed this one not froze.
  3. Nice mate. just about to leave home to do my last session of the year.
  4. One of the best ways to cut your gear back is use an air matress instead of a bed chair. Used to do a 20 mile round trip on a push bike when I was younger the biggest challenge was food and water supply's luckily there was a shop towards the end of the journey so used to get supplys when I was almost at the venue.
  5. Imo somebody who goes to the extreme of using spirit levels isn't just a tackle tart there also an idiot. I like to have my set up looking neat and tidy but using a spirit level is over the top. But each to there own I suppose.
  6. Used it for 6 weeks took it off its great to begin with but the line twist I was getting was something else. Yes I do you use clutch which creates twist but some line are better than others when it comes to twist but syncro is one of the worst I've ever used. On Gardener gt80 on all the same qualities with out the the twist problems.
  7. Just personal choice you not going to land more or less fish using one or the other. If you don't use a bait runner correctly you properly not going to use a normal reel correctly either you can use a bait runner locked up if need be. There no rule saying you have to engage the bait runner anyway. I personally prefer normal reels for carp but use bait runners for pike.
  8. No because it's not a fishing line it's to thin to fish with so I wouldn't and i wouldnt go out my way to be blatant but any line collects debris so weather you use fox camo, wychwood, or esp what ever it doesn't matter. Im much more concerned about how abrasive resistant the line is.
  9. Doesn't matter what colour your line is as debris collects on it and with in an hour all lines look identical coverd in a layer of grime.
  10. A few went across in 2008 in the floods and a few stockies went across couple of years ago when the wire that separates the church and Barbaras broke.
  11. Yea I had that mirror couple of times that mirror isn't about anymore I don't think, there was a stunning apple sliced zip linear in there but that's defonately gone. There rumours that the parrot one of the old church pool A team is in the Barbras now. It's worth fishing still I reckon and it's fairly cheap ticket if you just join Barbras. Just be prepared to put some time and blanks in and I'm sure you get a few out of there. When I fished it there was proberly 20 fish in there biggest been that mirror few mid 20ties and the rest upper doubles and low 20ties. It rarely gets fished you have it to yourself most the time.
  12. The biggest in church is around upper 20ties nothing like it was ten years ago lot of the originals have died lot of stockies some nice ones some not so, carnt really add much more to what I've said on previous thread there nice lakes, all depends what you want out your angling but best part of 400 is steep for what the stock is now imo.
  13. Yes mate done bit on there had most the fish I wanted pretty quickly. Biggest was 29lb i think that fish died few years ago and some fish were moved out of there into church but I've heard fish have escaped out of church into barbs. Been 8 years since I fished patshall, still fish Great Lake for pike and perch in the winter occasionally. But I've lost touch with the church and Barbaras. Barbs could have a surprise or two in there though proberly bigger fish in there than the church these days. The originals in patshall are stunning but there getting fewer and fewer as time goes on.
  14. I fish alot of silty lakes and it's one of the easiest bottoms to fish over. Firstly the fish give away ware there feeding more than any other bottom. I useally use a lead clip rig length depends on alot of things just like on any other bottom. On one really silty estate lake I fished I done well on short hook links I only used short hooklinks because nobody else did. I do use helicopters occasionally never had any problems if I put it in the right spot it screams off and the fish are useally nailed. Used helicopter fair bit last winter had no problems. Do prefer helicopters in light silk weed or if it's very shallow and very shallow I use helicopters rig. Just look for fizzing or showing fish use a simple set up keep the disturbance down use bait and rigs you have confidence with on other lakes and you will catch in silt it's defonately not something to worry about.
  15. No rig will work alk the time that's obvious in fact any rig will get done over majority of the the I use the silicon style blow back rig for majority of my fishing rarely use chod. But for as long as your relying on the fish to prick it's self then give us some sort of indication they will have the upper hand. If I'm sight fishing and can watch the fish pick the bait up I'll strike as soon as the bait enters the fishes mouth and hook them 9 times out of ten. if I wait for the fish to react all to often they just blow the bait out it doesn't matter what rig you use. It's simple to find an edge these days by makeing things even simpler how many people do you see useing worm, free lineing bread float fishing obviously this isn't always practical but they can be massive edges in the right situation. As I said if the elastic rig works for you great keep useing it but I couldn't care less who advocates it a simple rig has always worked for me everywhere I've fished.
  16. It does for me as long as I get the most impotant things right. The biggest edge you can have is water craft if you hooks sharp the fish are willing to except what you put on the hair or the hook you pretty much there as long as you can find them. The most consistent anglers are the anglers that Consistantly get there location right it's what separates the best from the rest. A simple rig will always catch fish it's noing how to optimise simple rigs that makes the difference hair length, rig length hook pattern ect so even a simple rig needs thought and expeirence tells you when to ring these changes. Adding elastic and adding bells and whistles just means there more to go wrong keep it simple and keep watching the lake stay on the fish and you will catch them. If useing elastic works for you then fair play but could never see my self useing such a rig.
  17. Just keep things simple.
  18. Sounds like a plan. Never really used amnesia I've got spool sumware must have had it 10 years it's still full.
  19. You making some special rigs ready for Sunday.ha ha.
  20. If you snip to hook and just pull out the shank then are you not leaving the point of the hook in the fish?
  21. Never heard it been called walkmill always known it as rosemary tiles it's not easy really deep even the margins are 20 ft around 60ft in places good floater water if you persevere used to be free fishing until around 5 years ago majority of anglers really struggle no point in poaching it as you need to put the time in and you will get caught. This thread been going a while surely you been into local tackle shop and asked them about it? Used to be dodgy down there don't no what it's like now but with the gate been locked should be better. Used be some stunning fish mainly doubles and 20ties and few low 30ties and of course the big myth common l. Pretty sure with bit of effort you could get on.
