If instead of useing that size 14 as part of the hair and you used the 14 as its used in the said rig as your main hook bait how many fish would you hook? thats right non. The scenio your talking bout would be a so unlikely it makes it safe enough to use imo!

Personally dont think the rig is any more dangerous than any other rig. Wouldnt use it personally because a needle and cotton does the job but the above post about sealing a carps mouth and the fish dieing is ridiculous its not going to happen.

Just reading that fried my head. Why make something so complicated just for sake of it? ill explain one of my favourite set ups. Step 1 tie hook to mainline. Step 2 put bread on hook Step 3 cast out. so simple but so deadly. That set up has caught me a lot of rarely caught fish. The simpler the better. i no it carnt be used all the time the point is just because its simple doesnt mean its not effective. just simplify everything and put your energy in to locating fish.

fair enough as said on other threads it all comes down to confidence. Although the withy pool rig isnt something id use its not as techniqucal as 360. I just like to keep things as simple as possible. I hardly used pop ups at all until i fished a lake called trench my target fish had only been out 3 times in around 20 years i managed to catch it and a some of rarely caught known fish and a few unknowns within a few months while those useing bells and whistle pop up rigs were haveing blank after blank i was top rod by far. Im not trying to big my self up just trying to get across how effective simple rigs can be no need to add swivels here and rings there.

why do people add bells and whistles to present a pop up? Some putty on to standard knotless knot rig jobs a goodun. I just think people over complicate things. To be honest 360 rig just looks awful to me wouldnt even entertain useing it! Dont mean to be patroniseing just my opinion!

This is what happens when rigs become complicated you encounter problems that need not exist imo.

If your fishing a very weedy water and not useing a boat the fish are in far more potencial danger weather theres a leader or not. If you use a boat you land 80 per cent of the fish you hook and get the rig back the other 20 per cent of the time so its the safest way to fish. Not useing leaders is neither here nor dare if the fish is left trailing 50 or hundred yards of line round in a weedy lake. strong gear and a boat will avoid teatherd fish.

Nobody saying chods dont work but the be end all of rigs just cause its in vogue. i think there better to present baits than chods in alot of situations its well over used. As for what i said about not always dropping leads im not talking bout putting the tail rubber on the lead clip overly tight the lead can still eject if need be its no different as open water fishing i dont drop the lead on the take but if the fish got in trouble the lead can still eject its still safe set up. There are weed situations when i would drop the lead on the take but there times when i wont.

i agree with what you say on the rig and presentation side of things but imo you carnt fish really heavy weed properly with out a boat. Also dont think you need to nesseraly drop the the lead if you have boat or even if you havnt sometimes. I think if you keep the lead the pressare is on the lead and not just the hook hold and the fish is less likely to to charge threw multiple weed beds it really depend on the type of weed i think.

ESP sink link and korda N Trap soft both brilliant.

Ive found the best way to use worms is to put 2 lobs directly on to a size 2 hook or 5 or dendrobeinas on to a size 4 or 6 depending how big they are . nice and simple. I find them most effective in clear shallow water or dropping them amongst feeding fish when stalking. i quite often use worms as a boilie stop more attractive than a peice of plastic!

Save your money and use sunken pike float s there as bouyant as you like there clear plastic very discreet far better than any zig kit and about tenner cheaper pick em up for couple of quid. these kits are a scam dont fall for the marketing. havnt seen the nash ones dont no what they retail at but garantee they wont do anythin a sunken pike float carnt.

Reading that confused me.lol. Simply slide a lead on to the main line followed by a bead. Get a fox sunken pike float they have a peice of black silicon on them slide that on to the mainline tie on a swivel and slide the silobon over the swivel this semi fixes the float. Then simply tie hooklink to the swivel. To stop it tangleing get sum pva foam and fold it over the silicon sleeve and stick the hook threw the foam and it ready to go. Had fish to 37lb plus on this rig.

why not stick to the rigs that have been working so well for you. Dont let abit of silt and debris make you change something thats been working for you. i use the same rigs everyware igo on weedy, silty, or hard bottom ill just change the legthof the rig. balac e out the bait more. At least dont change all your rods over try the chod on one maybe but if something isnt broke dont fix it.

Would rather catch an uncaught English 30lb+ common from a secret lake that doesnt get fished. Roll on spring.

I use supple braids for most my fishing ESP sink link is used for the majority of my fishing 15 or 20lb, Unless its really snaggy then i use korda N trap in 20lb. If im fishing shallow clear water then i use drennan double stregth in 10lb. I dont use any stiff materials!

Very little because you only need a hook thats to cheap. Not that im complaining because the last thing i need is free lineing to become popular its a massive edge that very few people do. Let them think the latest wonder rig is the way forward on hot sunny july afternoon! On a prime spot 1m out on a silt patch in 2.5" of water! Thats the one!

My pop up rig is the same i dont make special rigs for pop ups a bit of putty on on my hook link jobs a goodun!

Always have a good gap between my bait and hook. I tweak the size of my hair to the size of the bait and hook im useing. I catch alot of fish with out a hair at all in the summer. I dont do much sitting behind the rods in the summer unless the conditions are bang on! As for useing different rigs thats a confidence thing i dont swap and change because im confident with my simple rigs and i think they will catch from any lake i fish. Dont want to blow my own trumpet here and dont want to come across as big headed but ive been top rod on every lake ive knuckled down on over the last ten years but its not because im better than any one else or rigs. Its because of the time ive put in and the effort i put in to locating the fish! If some one is always changeing there rigs its must be because there not getting the resualts they want from there fishing but rigs are useally not the problem its useally lack of time or there not getting on the fish. Alot of people are fooled into thinking that famouse anglers just turn up and catch big fish within hours because thats how it comes across on telly. But if the point on st johns gets shut for a few days and pre baited my nan could catch with in hours. What rig you drop amongst them fish doesnt really matter its going to go! I stay mobile use quality bait and put the time in rigs become secondry when you get location right as does bait to fair imo!

Ill use the same rigs pretty much everyware i go the only thing that changes to suit paticular venue is the length of the rig, the material used changes depending on water clarity and snags but apart from those few things my rigs wont change i have complete confidence in the rig i use! Not a chod in site!

Agree with you gary. The main thing when it comes to rigs is with out doubt hook sharpness. Im a massive believer in keeping things simple as possible. You carnt reinvent the wheel adding rings and micro swivels aint for me. Knotless knot bait on the hair away you go. I often hear people saying" im going to change my rigs" when there rigs are not the problem or at least it wasnt until they tinkerd about and added bells and whistles there problem is useally location! lot of people also carnt blank with out changeing rigs for the next session sometimes its as simple as the were not feeding on the day but because they watch fake fishing on DVDs and tv programmes where blanks are almost non existant they think that a blank means there not doing it right! Keep everything strong and simple and concerntrate on location not the latest wonder rig.
