carp_warrior Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 I havent done it before and my and my gf are gonna give it ago so was wondering which hooks to go for? cheers Quote
theloner Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 so do i or the korda mixa or fox ssc size 10 Quote
nealy_uk Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I use the Korda wide gape size 10 Same here Quote
138cgj Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I use Foam a lot with Zigs and i attach it on a D with no ring for 'movement' as i think the fish take differently in the upper layers. Not only from a different angle but also a different approach so i like a beaked point. ESP Raptors are my choice, usually an 8/10. Quote
zander1 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 In my opinion you would be better of with smaller/lighter hooks than those mentioned. A simple £1 pack of size 12/10 Drennans will do the trick The hooks mentioned do all work granted- used them my self- but i found i caught more with the Drennans, they are also alot cheaper For the price of one pack of 10 Armapoints, you can get 4 packs of Drennans in 4 different variations- barbed- different sizes etc, you will drop onto the winning formulae Quote
bobstains Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I usually use raptors for pop up and zig fishing, although I have ran out and the last zig I tied was using an sssp and to be fair i'll prob stick with those. Quote

speersy Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 gardner choddy nice out turned eye gives it a more aggressive angle to hook into the lip than the wide gape in my opinion Quote
shropshirecarper Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 i use gardner muggers for every type of fishing never had a prob with them for zigs Quote
mike_t Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 used to use the korda wide gap but now use the korda mixa seem to get slightly better hook holds Quote
xl_carp Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 I use chody hooks too. But i am very desapointed by Korda Quote
beanz Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 i think an out turned eye works better.any make will do ,as long as its sharp Quote
cobleyn Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 i think an out turned eye works better.any make will do ,as long as its sharp As the weather picks up, I thought I would re-run this thread. The general concencus seems to be its got to be light and sharp...but other than that- everything seems to work. Surprised Danny's missed that trick K-Ziggers. But seriously- Does anyone have any other views on what makes a good Zig hook. Anecdotal thinking would suggest a 'chod' style hook would give the best hooking potential. Quote
chris71 Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 I've had more success using size 10/12 (gardner muggas) hooks rather than chod hooks which tend to only be available in the bigger sizes but the fish I catch are in the 10/20 lb range Quote
