The size of pop up will depend on the bottom bait. I cut off 1/4 of bottom bait with a craft knife. The same with the pop up. Check how it sits in a bucket or the margins, you can trim down the pop up accordingly, u want it to sink slowly, i waft my hand in the bucket & check how it moves. You'll know when its sitting nicely.

I use stiff rigmarole fluro, size 6 krank, 3 turn blood knot allows a bit of movement in the hook, micro swivel held with rigmarole hook stop, floss to attach bottom, snowman or wafter. Excellent hookholds, never lost a fish on this rig.

I didnt know they did swivels that small unless you mean 2/0 , does the ring go on the hook or does it hold the bait stop ? and thanks again

My personal preferred method but not what the OP was asking so I didn't mention it.

Or use a swivel on the bend of the hook, held in place with a hook bead

Unless I'm in a bag, I always put anti tangle sleeves at swivel end fella. always kicks the bait away from the lead

A couple of overhand knots in a blade of grass works well.

I've been using this rig on the last few sessions snowman style on a 15lb monifilament  hook link with about a 15mm gap from hook  great rig and brilliant hook holds

The KD rig, (capitalised as its re-inventor was Kenny Dorsett) was originally used with a shot on the hair and a pop-up on the hair to keep it low to the lakebed, critically balanced.

It works best with a short shank curved hook, Gardner Mugga style.
Personally, and it is not a Korda dig, I found that Korda Kurvs simply were not sharp enough and did not hold their point for that long in water.

Look at your hook holds, where is the hook ending up in the carps mouth?
Middle of bottom lip perfect hair length, deep in mouth too long, edge of lips or losing fish, hair too short.

I'm going to merge the two KD rig threads as this post answers both

Highy, you might want to consider bringing pod and full setup back from the edge until only your rod tips are over the water. Cast shadows and sight of the outhang by fish cruising the edge may result in spooking potential catches.

    Just an observation.

Luggage & odd terminal bits only.

Probably get slated for this, but Korda u can't go wrong with for end tackle. Useful diagrams in case you're stuck with tying knots etc.

As with everything in life you get what u pay for, but don't pay over the odds. It is expensive but better quality will last longer. NGT is ok for beginners, just upgrade when you can afford it.

    Happy carping fella

I wouldn't go with them for rods but I've got bits of luggage from them and they are fine

Would depend how hard the crust is on the top of the silt, if the water is clearish and you see the spot try dropping a lead on it and seeing how far it plugs in which be my major concern about using a fluro rig in this situation, if the lead plugs into the silt on cast then you are going to be left with a section of the hooklink sticking straight out where the lead has plugged in, personally i would probably use a supernova braided hooklink in this situtation

Bait wise a slow sinker/wafter or a snowman should just sit nicely on top of the silt

. Sorry matey it's not my neck of the woods but the only Thorpe Lea I've heard of is a day ticket not a syndicate. You're right though there are enough waters in that area to last a lifetime

If fishing with boilies over a firm bottom I will use flouro hook links around 12 inches long with a size 4 solar wide gape X, sometimes with a d the same as Phil but sometimes with my own unique presentation which so far I have never seen anyone else use.
I'm a proper pioneer me lol.

Carp are an imported species. No carp 'originated' in the UK

As for genetic altering. There are now carp which are bred to be resistant to KHV which can only be a good thing.

A fish is a fish as far as I'm concerned. So long as it's healthy, good looking and puts up a good fight; I'm happy

I use amnesia 15lb for all my pop up rigs, hinged stiff links. i took my first "hard" water using fluro hooklinks in late 90s. again using amnesia 15lb in clear and bottom baits. i think i had the advantage as everyone else was using supple braided hooklinks. so it was a different presentation. so id use it when no one else is.

Only ever fish prairie, kettle and plantation biggest I've had there is 24. Plantation I had none coz the group of people I went with were too noisey and on plantation it's 1 acre so a small lake and little noise produces good results

A normal chod/SR would be ok for zig fishing but IMO a krank/curve would hold the bait to far away from the hook or hold the bait at the wrong angle for effective hooking.

& i was told not to mention fluro to cm!!!!!!

As above although i use no.6 Krank, 3 turn blood, micro swivel on the hook, my method over the suppleness of the braid.

I have used IQ2 in the past, but now using Rig marole ( easy to iron out small kinks without the need for steam), they also have braid over fluro, so you can roll up the braid, cut the fluro, push the braid back for the whipping & hair, INSTANT COMBI RIG.

I only use fluro now, peace of mind that the rig resets itself should it be disturbed.
