Well chuffed with my new free-spirit Helicals. May have to nip down the water tomorrow for a few casts.
-
Yes mate, my only ticket is the reservoir. More often than not I don't use the boat once I'm in the swim, so nice to put one or two at distance. At 100 yds it's around 8-10ft, 120-40 yds it 12 -16 ft. I do need to get some pit reels, but everything seems to be breaking for me too. Just had to get a loan for a new motor myself. Painful!
-
Good luck gents. Wishing I was fishing😭 Not out until first weekend of June. On the the upside, finally collected my free spirit Helical 13 ft rods today. They look very nice for the money, super lightweight. I'll set up my reels and take a pic tomorrow.

The things we do in search of the next nice carp. The reservoir I fish is full of water atm, we cant launch from the sailing club, so have to barrow several loads through loads of mud to get to the boats. My average time from the load up until being all set up is around 5 hours??? Crazy. Considering it's only 30 minutes away from home. Enjoy and good luck mate.

With the holes drilled out, they are pretty much anyway. They busted the lock on one & put a massive scratch down the panel. The van that's been done twice just had stuff moved around. I'm tempted to sit in the back & wait for them☠️

Im really, really annoyed by petty crime, again.🤮 I've got 2 vans, both have been broken into by drilling holes in the sidedoor panel where the latch is. First time they took 3 cordless tool around £400 new. Damage to the doors at £1k. This week, they damaged the latch so couldn't get in?? Estimate £1.5K. The tools we use are only around £7-800, so not worth insuring due to £500 excess. Same for the damage caused, not worth claiming for!! Quote for dead locks £500 each van. So for a these parasites looking for an easy score it's cost me around £3k😭😭😭 Not a happy chappy

Glad you're OK and had a good break, @elmoputney Would it be worth asking if we can pay the fishery directly? Into the pot as it were? Carp.com bash -

Hi Elmo. Any news from the fishery?? Sorry to hassle you buddy -
Well impressed with free spirit in 12ft. Ordered the 13's. Nash holdall, 5k krill & 4 bags of end tackle bits. £460, got £40 left to spend on beer & grub for the weekend 🙂

Any news @elmoputney??? Fingers crossed we can all pay them directly. Good luck tonight mate🤞 -
Yes, they haven't been around this long by selling carp. I've found a local shop with the 12ft free spirit & TX2, so I'm going to have a quick feel, might well take my reel. Both of the ones I'd like will take 2-3 weeks to be delivered??
-
From memory (9 years ago) they were around £160 each from Eric's stand at the big one. They are great, can't fault them. I'm not one for selling things. So will keep hold of them. I've seen guys going about half a mile on the boat and dropping their rigs. I'm never going to get that sort of range from my baitrunners. So, as with the longer rods, I have felt a natural progression to upgrade my standard fishing gear, to big water type gear. Maybe next year I can afford the bigger reels🤞 The bailiff uses a toilet cistern float as a marker. I've not gone down that route as I'm not going out that far, yet! I've always considered this ticket as a long term campaign. I think I've only managed 7 x 48 hrs this season. Currently, I can't afford to put the time in, but I'm slowly starting to build up my knowledge.
-
Thanks pal. I'll take a look. I'm hitting 120 yds comfortably. I just assumed longer rods would be more comfortable for further range. I also need to upgrade the reels from aerlex 10000 baitrunners, but they will have to wait for now.

He seems to think free spirit are better. He has custom hi s's. Well out of my price range🤑 I only plan to fish at the reservoir, where distance is a factor. More often than not, I don't take my rigs out on the boat. I'm in the usual situation, of sods law, where no local shops have either rod to look at in the flesh. AD is an hour away, with only TX2s or 9s & Tackle Box has free spirits, but that's an hour away in the opposite direction.
-
So, a mate who's a great angler, says I shouldn't get Shimano rods, instead go for the free spirit Helical 13 ft. Similarly priced, very low end from their average price range. Any thoughts appreciated gents???
-
Slightly off topic, but I'm looking at getting Shimano TX4 13ft rods. £140 each is within my budget, obviously with new 13ft bag to put them in. Reviews look good. Has anyone had any experience of them? Or, can I get better rods from another brand? Thanks

OK great. So you & your son, for 3 nights @Elmoputney can firm up the numbers with the fishery & hopefully we can pay directly -
Ouch. Cold packs (or bag of frozen peas) work best for muscular pain. I found, it's better to lay flat or be stood up. Keeps the spine straight. This is a lifesaver for my back when it plays up https://www.physique.co.uk/Massage/Thumper-Massagers/Thumper-Sport?gclid=CjwKCAjw5dqgBhBNEiwA7PryaJ5hjxdMgWKZJSnjxgJbRiINU3Ayk5bbFOwjBp81wlmwvzIYd4Zi9xoCIiIQAvD_BwE I feel your pain and yes as you get older these things seem to take longer to recover from. Speedy recovery mate
