  1. Just got set up. Lovely little venue. Nice to put names to faced on the social
  2. As Ian said, the water you are fishing would very much affect your catch rate. Rig wise I prefer to keep it simple, a stiff fluorocarbon 6-8" hooklink, curved (krank) size 4-6. Hook swivel and stop. Running rig lead set up. Great for a bottom bait or snowman (bottom bait & pop up) this makes the hook more buoyant if a fish is sucking at it. Loads online about different rigs. It can be confusing. So pick a rig or two, try it, tweak it and you'll soon know if you're on the right track. Carp fishing is a journey & a puzzle, from your kit, the venue, to your experience. Its good to learn something even when you don't catch and put it to use the next time. Underwater 7 & 8 definitely worth a watch imo. 😉enjoy
  3. 20k of boilies, £40 worth of rubber & plastic, £40 worth of grub, £30 worth of beer. All packed and ready for the social this weekend. Shame some couldn't make it. Maybe next year????
  4. Weather looks a lot better than yesterday. It'll probably change again tomorrow
  5. Maybe next time buddy??? It would be good to have regular socials
  6. Sorry to hear that pal. Bivvies are silly money now. I got my JRC 10 years ago £200 with rain/winter skin and ground sheet. It seems you need to spend 5 times that for anything half decent. I may go second hand, but there's not a lot of choice for around £4-500. The weather forecast looks OK now on my app. Bit of rain Friday afternoon and Sunday night.
  7. It's a JRC STI. its not that big. But this place sounds rough n ready. I'll bring a saw I do need a bigger one for my Belgium trip next year. My 11 year old son wants to cone. It's a squeeze with 2 beds in.
  8. I've only got a 2 man. So, hopefully they're not too small. A draw would seem the fairest way, but happy to go with whatever. Hopefully a few days of this type of weather will get them feeding🤞
  9. So I got a circular from the fishery manager. Seems a few have been sending a bait boat well into the out of bounds nature reserve. Fair enough, bait boats are now banned from that end the reservoir. I don't have one so doesn't bother me. The bailiff who is due to take over as the old boy is 80, has now decided he wants to do rig checks, as he's found someone using a 6oz lead. The rules are 3oz? I use a 4 & curved hooks. Again no curved hooks allowed. So I'm going to have to conform until I think he's done checking my rigs. He's mentioned a few do's & don't's to a mate. Which I think he's just making up as he goes along. This bailiff is a bit of a busy body know it all & I'm concerned once he takes over the management, it won't be the same tranquil fishery. Anyone else left a venue due to change of management?
  10. Looks a comfy spot for eating kebabs
  11. Mmm!!!! That & a cold one .. From what I can see, we may get a bit of rain.
  12. I've only ever seen them flying down the beach. Never when I've been fishing. I'm so boring that they wouldn't watch me for long. As I said, I've never been able to locate fish with it. At a certain height you wouldn't know it was there. A mate said, he's seen guys using pva string to drop rigs, I'm not that adventurous & I only have a lightweight one, so not sure how it would cope with the additional weight?? It's just a flying camera as far as I'm concerned
  13. Unless they are on the top of a gin clear water it is impossible to find them. Well at least on the waters I've tried. I'd of said binoculars would be more effective
  14. Can we sort the terms for Ashmire? I'm bringing mine
  15. From the stamp of fish you are getting, it would appear the trout fisherman have asked the club to get some carp guys in to see why their always catching these little hungry carp & perhaps affecting the bite/catch rate.??? I'm no expert, but from my very limited knowledge, some reservoirs don't have enough predators to keep the natural balance. So some species can start to take over. There's been talk of the need for more pike, sturgeon, cats basically any hungry predator to keep the nuisance species in check on a few big waters near me. The closest one, everyone I know says they get loads of cricket bat commons around 4-12lb. That used to be a trout only res. Now a carp syndicate. Try to drill the bailiffs and suss what their plans (or the purpose of this experiment is, or,) are for the water. If they are really cagey, I'd suggest finding another ticket. If they're nice as pie, hang in there, as it must have a few chunks at that size water.
  16. Is it available on the carp.com shop mate???? Hopefully it would be cheaper in English £'s than the European currency?
  17. Sorry @Highy I didnt check auto correct earlier??? The albeit or, Albright knot is the neatest by far with the Armakord imo. & not to difficult to tie Fishspy!!
  18. No issues at all. It's been on for about 5 years. I used to always cast out the fishery which is quite heavy. Albeit knot to 20lb banana braid. I use the quick change loop knots, which are really handy for changing to a float or whatever
  19. Unexpected 48. Mrs said as long as oi take my 11 year old. He's loving spombing out the bait. Happy days
  20. Yes mate, that sounds right. I'm around that weight. Better night's sleep than my normal bed.
  21. I had the wide Avid memory foam, when it first came out. Not cheap £250, but amazing comfort. Got nicked out my garage 🥺 Got given one after the break in. Seems OK, better than a few others ive tried & trashed. Definitely, not as comfy as the Avid. I always find with my bulk I have to stretch the bungee chord every now and then when I hit the frame. As above the Sonik rods I've had are prone to falling apart. I tried to claim on the lifetime guarantee and get ignored. I wouldn't waste my money on their kit. Buy cheap, buy twice & all that
  22. No boats??? You've got a mission there mate... I haven't been very successful on my res which is half the size. So, I'm only offering a suggestion. If you only have a month, I'd say plenty of prebaiting to try and get a few spots going. I got a few bites when I was prebaiting with 10k a time, a week and a few days before fishing. Boilies may not pay off if the fish haven't seen them before, so definitely try tigers. Will they let you on for a month again next year? It seems an unusual scenario?? Good luck
  23. I found yge same with another well known brand. After first outing it went like bed springs. Awful line. I hope you have better luck mate
