  1. Oh not all bad, just back from my MOT on the new motor, not even an advisory, i can still pick em. just shows how much of a rip off those tyre and brake places are, when i was in there a few weeks back one of the lads tried to sell me two tyres as two of mine wouldn't pass a MOT, he got the look, i would never go near one of those places for a MOT it's just asking for it. Due the next 20.000 service interval soon might treat it to a trip to the KIA dealer keep the service manual up to date with KIA stamps. First car i ever bought a banged up escort burnt me on it's first MOT i learnt a lot that day.
  2. Not so much a like but a users review on the Korum Leverage Screw XT sticks, the one i got was the large storm pole for my down the side margin rod, not very good at all nice and solid goes into the lake bed good, the problem starts if you try to extend it even a rod and alarm pushes the inner section back down, no way it would work as a bivvy pole. i might of just got a slack one korum are usually ok, never had a problem with my fox ones they have they same cam lock. oh and the inner section is shaped so it wont turn for fine adjustment.
  3. I use the mini swingers think they are cute as look nice on 10 footers.
  4. It is more than likely lacquered soft steel in the Korda stuff, the price of good quality metals is going crazy, the retail prices are proof of that, it is a shame really as i do think there is a good market for custom made metal ware, there is some really nice Damascus bar stock that can be ordered would make some real unique bobbins with, a lot of other gun metals that are really nice as well, a lot of it would have to be treated to prevent rust but that would add to the look .
  5. If anyone wants to have a go at making their own bobbins you can get some good results by using a drill for a lathe and files for tools the stock is a bolt loaded with nuts or wood the choices are vast.
  6. Don't forget Haiths they do a few base mixes that a lot of makers use add their own bits and bobs, if i was going to make my own Haiths would be my main port of call.
  7. Just as a heads up for anyone interested in the Torque range they can still be got new from Fox's spares department, Although, they are not the best long range rods in terms of casting distance going by what others say, If you ask me they are a poor mans Ballista type rod, but don't let that fool you as they really are value for money.
  8. If you want to stay with Fox pre-sale to Japan designed stock you wouldn't go wrong with a set of the Fox Torque might still be able to find a new set if you shop around. they really are a light weight slim blank. made for playing big fish the flex really does respond to what the angler is doing and the fish.
  9. nearest to me is 3.2 miles lavender hall nice little palace well stocked tackle shop plus a few thirties in station pool
  10. If you want some of the old style cadge feeders they always have a box full at Furnace End car boot, no elastic in them you can put the main line or leader straight through and tie off to a quick link for the hook, he normally has all sorts of sizes from small to monster huge size. it's a fishing tackle stall can't miss it.
  11. Same as, in fact i'm not keen on the way carp tackle is going that's all the makers and i use the word makers in a very sardonic way, they must have an agreement not to import vast amounts of unbranded high retail value items and sell them fast. They really are taking the on the price of bivvys, take one north of Norway for a winter see how they stand up, they are lazy in using new materials as well, i could easily insulate a winter skin for next to nothing, the makers could do the same for pennies.
  12. Chods are a great rig in the right kind of weed up until you drop a real big fish haven't really used a chod since i left KWP you can get one to sit nice on thick silk weed. Very easy for the fish to blow the rig at any point after picking it up though, very sharp barbed hooks are a must as big as you think you can get away with. My preferred pop up rig that is a withy/chod style rig has to be the reverse combi.
  13. Glycerine, handy little thing to have knocking about for multiple uses, if you have spent 3 or more days eating dry noodles and the like a bit of the G bomb really will get things moving, quickly and thoroughly with no medical impact on the body, don't know why they don't use it for the colonoscopy prep the stuff they give you is damn scary. While i'm the subject, if you are over 45 and lets face it most on this site are, don't be a diva get on camera 😠
  14. Wychwood have some good looking gear i'm very impressed with their metal ware. all the banksticks and buzz bars come with the screw hole for indicators plus they do what looks like a brilliant bit of thought put into the Stage stand it doubles as a bankstick stabiliser, they have drilled two holes into the side of the stand and added a ground spike all for 15 notes which is about the price of buying either separate. they also do a double decker stick, don't see the practicality but they look nice. I really like the new bivvy bit pricy at 370 with overwrap but looks like a very good all season bivvy. Which brings me to my grumble, the price of fishing tents is outrageous it really is, even the cheapest is too much and very poor quality, i have had my JRC contact for about 8 years now still sound and waterproof but without a wrap it is a summer only bivvy.
  15. I'm sure they are a good bait but i wouldn't use them, Shimano don't make baits i doubt they have any kind of production in the UK of any of their products? This is another fishmeal bait, if they want into the bait market they need to come up with something original.
  16. might be worth getting a beachcaster/skyliner pod that would help a bit, other than that sounds like you need a long snag leader, have a look at what there is for the big catfish on the Ebro.
  17. been looking at those myself, i have a very old set of the MX + i think? bought them from a carboot and i have a cheap grandslam for the third rod they all do the job but thinking of replacing the Grandslam for one of these. Can't really go wrong with fox alarms.
  18. That's not me being a smart git just think it is silly to lump a grand fine on a average person, there is no way they can expect us to pay that, it is a bit worrying, common sense would say it is fine to travel to outdoor venues. loading the whole clan up and demanding to visit granny in her retirement flat would be the other end of the common sense chain.
  19. I think a lot of these fines will end up being squashed, fines above £60 have to be looked into to insure the person has the means to pay it. personally I would take the fine and then bin it on the spot and ask where they would like to go next? but then again I'm not the one in lockdown yet. I definitely would not be paying anything.
  20. Adds to the fun look at it like an escape from colditz sort of thing.... to be fair two guys using common sense wouldn't cause too much of a disaster by traveling down to Oxford, you could still self isolate and go fishing at Linears. Looks like there is a vaccine on the way, that will be another kettle of fish, they can juice me up, i'm due my flu shot anyhow. i have had the Phenomena one and all the Hepatitis ones.
  21. I wouldn't say you can get worse at angling, way too many variations to ever be sure of anything, what can happen is a loss of interest or getting stuck doing the same all the time, you can get away with that on commy waters with enough fish in, at any time of year. For me, my best fishing comes from April through to August for carp I struggle for what to do next after that, I think timing would be more critical than anything else from now till next spring, even that north easterly we had this week was cold.
  22. Just back from a couple of days, strange one really, looked real good for a fish slight drop in temps but nothing shocking, think i should of took the single bait approach really or perhaps maybe tried my hand at a zig. Wouldn't of thought three K of boilies and about the same in pellets over three rods in three days would be too much at anytime of year? On the plus side the hound is getting much better, left my carryall in the front room after unpacking, he was on it and ready to go, he sleeps in it when out.
  23. Often wonder what Malc Rooker would make of all this high TC rods for UK waters, a 2.5 TC at 12 foot will do any water in the UK that hold large fish, unless you are chucking solid bags, not many 50lb plus size fish coming out Solid bag fishing? I'm happy with my rods at 3lb test but i bought them used so... would of loved the same rod in the 2.45 don't think they did a 2.5 , you could put a stick mix out on either of those size rods. Malc was a lovely bloke made a lot of Continental rods at High TC and 13 foot in length used to have three of his rod years back, two of his in-house carp rods full British carbon fibre that he sourced himself and I had a beautiful 13 foot waggeler rod that was built on a Harrison blank, that was made for canal Tench and Carp, Sometimes see his rods up for sale, think they are starting to be a bit collectable, especially the the proper big water rods.
  24. Still think you shod build a Crocopult, melt a pair of crocs together epoxy resin a bit of pipe in the centre of the now joined croc soles add a catty and there you have the Crocopult.
  25. cable tie the handle to your boot and use you leg to get maximum stretch. never tried it often thought about it, might want to cable tie the elastic to the pult and pouch i do that with all my pults anyhow.
