  1. damn fred is going to get me beat up he upset a staffy owner the other week, his mrs just had a pop at me due to fred not being the jack russell that he is, he towers above their staffy, i don't even let fred off his lead. he is really nice with nice dogs but he loves fighting that's why he stays on lead? not a lot else i can do really they were fine the other week when the staffy ran at him, fred bolted it damn dog went into warp drive through the woods bloke chasing it. he does look like a pitbull or at least what most call a pitbull, he is a fox terrier or jack russell he has no bully in him as a defining feature his climbing skills alone should tell you that, pure terrier.
  2. when you have the members of LACS and similar questioning the 2004 hunting act over on twitter and admitting they see a need for environmental management as they call it, got them down to dog or gun, action taken to prevent a problem or wait until the need for intervention is plain to see. lot of insults from the rank and file. some of them seem to think hunting is banned , oh deer they really are miss imformed when you bung a few at them.
  3. I did try to explain to the author of some daft book about canoeing where you like wrote by one of those protesting eco types, the reason he couldn't just paddle where he likes was down to the EA hold the responsibility for lesuer activities on all water courses and lakes even the man made gravel pits, sign posted him to take it up with the EA and not to go bothering land and lease owners it's not their call. wouldn't have it hell bent on keeping as a landowner issue, if that was the case i would be calling for a revolution, he needs the equivalent of a rod licence but for inland paddle boats.
  4. dog walk for me makes things much easier for the rest of the day, took a walk along a river tributary the other day near billing got to be some good eels and the like in there. also if i have one or two in the night i don't put those rods back out till the morning mainly due to overhead trees or thick snags nothing worse than a rod stuck in a tree in the dark.

i got one of those cooling mats filled with a gel, 6 quid from wilko's might need two for sky they work really well, they would be perfect on a summer's day put over the back of a chair, gets really cold the longer you press against it.
  6. started using a pod this year simply for the ease of setting up and putting away, the fox screw point sticks lasted years, my advice get the best screw points you can afford or make a hole borer old screwdriver or something, just don't be a mallet boy guy the other week on a day ticket it was like he was putting a big top up. my pod and all just go in the barrow side bags no bags in bags.

    Dogs and fishing

Sky wants ice. bit of a weird one the other day was sitting in the bivvy with fred and something fell against the back of the bivvy sounded like a few twigs falling out a the tree, fred shot out and round the back, heard something squeaking, went out and fred had hold of a mole i made him drop it and he did first ask, i had a look and seen it was a mole with a twisted front led, it could barely crawl let alone dig so i let fred deal with it, very fast and clean back of the neck and wrag. I was wondering if the mole had been picked up by a buzzard or something, wouldn't expect a mole to live in a flood area like that let alone out in the day. no mole hills near by?
  8. that's the one third party liability same for boats and swimming, if carp angling wasn't such a money sport three and four day sessions would be banned due needing a sleep it's a very grey area.
  9. anyone tried these or got any thoughts if you google the thread title and watch the vids on youtube there are the rig bits for sale don't want to link as it's a guys own product, the end knot that holds the hook looks a bit dodgy looks like it really needs care when setting up. Anyone going to give them a go?
  10. I used fluro for years on all reels only stopped due to the blue dye stuff they use for the weed looks like a laser pointer in that stuff, Tiger line is fantastic, the fox illusion is ok but i think i may off loaded it wrong, did the spool sticker side up and it seemed of but it still behaves like a slinky if you open the bail arm and give slack. does sink nice though just need to give it extra time to settle before setting your bobbins.
  11. i can beat for foul hooked had a big pike on my deeper took it like a surface lure hung on to it until the edge too, tell ya if i could surface lure fish and catch like that i'd be a happy angler. Had my first carp from the new water, it was with the deeper finding areas to fish found some loveshallowkow bars out in the middle fished chods for nods on all three rods due to the silk weed, got a bit happy with the large spomb and put 4 kilo of bait out. around the 24 mark on my prologic scales.
  12. i blame putin the nasty little git russia should join nato and things would be sweet. just back from from a bit of shopping for a fishing trip, hardly bought anything all food for me and the dog plus cold drinks shocking at the till, screw fit gas cans are getting low go outdoors never had any, that's a first.
  13. john baker's latest vid covers rigs and still catching despite their use, long distance rigs that you know will land right and reset might not be the best for hooking a fish, he swears by using a simple hair rig with a long hair if the fish are above 30, i do recall that's how chris b used to fish his big lake when using bottom baits, he did a FB post of a few days he did as the big lake was fishing hard for bottom baits, he pulled a couple of forties out using a braid rig and double boilie on a long hair, no hook jewelry just pushed the point of the hook through the hair to give it the blow back action.
  14. it's a strong sun out i'm brown all ready only takes a lick of sun and i soon darken up for the summer, i'm ment to be staying out the sun but can't see any point in that. it looks good for later in the weekend might be a bit of rain on the way.
  15. just like last year, only difference is they are telling the truth and calling out otters, they blamed dogs last year, i took them apart on it on their twitter page last year, linked my MP in due to her being slightly pro hunt believe it or not. My main bone of annoyance was they were blaming dogs where i sometimes walk mine, have not took fred up but used to take my pattie, i knew it wasn't dogs, unless they mean dog otters. they are gutted to have to admit it, got told straight blame another dog and i will come up and take the time to prove it's not a dog, they would look real silly then seems they are meant to be experts. https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/local-news/cygnets-killed-ryton-pools-country-24236263?fbclid=IwAR3MYpO6PQHxowUqKRC_m9AFzws3qBCB3eZqetfhQO351fdGNKKlgECyjgo noticed these weird charity groups that run wildlife areas are very anti dog. anyhow here's fred doing what he was made for silently waiting for the rat to get to close, the rat flew into the pond when fred first bolted him, this is fred waiting for him to come back. proper all round terrier picks things up real fast. not a sound never get a even a yip out of him when he is in the zone.
  16. i'm liking the gardner line i'm using it's the HD one, very good casting line pretty beefy too, i like to use the local shops when i can, none seem to have the hydro tuff in stock, the fox illusion is a good line casts well bit stingy on spool size though. yeah i'm still up, should be making sarnies right about now!
  17. oh incase anyone thinks i'm being a bit selfish, yeah just a bit, got three kilo of fresh bait sitting in a bucket all thawed gluged and powdered, an easy 50 notes, i will re freeze it but you know how it is, got it out sunday morning to defrost in a nice glug of shrimp extract and liver powder, got no money for day tickets so it's either refreeze or bin. offered over a week ago to pay extra to get on the other lakes, never heard nothing back. i'm really not short of options for big fish waters, i could of used the same money for a summer on bluebells mid-week angling or any number of other lakes that are near empty mid-week. ecton will be a one year for me, there must be stacks of mid week anglers waiting for a ticket, where as all other lakes seem to be near empty midweek. hate having my time wasted.
  18. me n fred in deep thpught about our future on ecton just got turned down for a bit of poaching, did offer to pay the diff, beyond gutted, opens the lake for the weekend anglers i can't fish weekends it is something i have to stick too. Pretty much just told the guy where to put his ticket, opens for the weekend then closes in the week till next weekend, see what happens, either way i will be on there when they next weekday open, just don't expect me to be civil for the rest of the year. opens at the weekend then closes in the week for spawning and fish welfare? ... the other one really has got bells on, pull that.
  19. and they just closed again, guesse what, i'm going poching lol now do i get jiggy on jigsaw or drop on the inland sea.
  20. and they are open so i'm out monday all hi tech redneck with my deeper gonna have to get a mouth harp. Fred is awesome a proper carp dog still keep him on a lead but he could go off lead as he follows me everywhere and strangers can walk up and fuss him, he just looks a bit off putting. me and a old mate was talking on fb earlier, reminded me of when he got me into boxing proper old irish trainer wouldn't let me on the speed bag was worried it would knock me out lol.
  21. what happened to landing nets? need a new one as i seem to go through them and not from catching, moving weed did it this time cracked the fiberglass arm bit of tape will sort it, but why are cheap nets so pricey, i'd love a bow lok could on next years wish list, don't see why you can't get a well made net for under 50 notes. they must be made for pennies.
  22. i really wanted one of the centre mech bivvies but seen too many come and go, to be fair if they are not ripping, you have to expect a little leak here and there, they are using material that is not waterproof until treated, if you have ever owned tents you will know they would be useless in the winter or strong windy rain, the prologic are spot on solid light and easy to pack away.
  23. if i'm buying online it's either AD or poingos with john ross as a back up, AD have good fast problem solving teams and they use royal mail/parcelforce, i wouldn't trust the odd bod shipping companies, their sorting depots are like a battleground of vandalism, i have done agency work in the big parcel force one their main hub, that's some high tec sorting, it only gets handled on and off the truck.
