I read somewhere in the anglers mail I think a year or 2 ago that over 40 fisheries will be destroyed. 3 around my way, although I don't fish any of the lakes that are being affected regularly, it's an absolute joke that the HS2 is being built, ruining historic fisheries, countryside etc and the government don't give a rats ass! They should concerntrate on the infrastructure that already exsists the railways are a joke always running late and councilations. Building anouther track not going current train users get to ware they want to be on time! Wonder how much counsilations and lateness costs the economy threw loss of production in the work place thanks to late trains fair bit i bet. I nearly lost my old job thanks to trains running late most mornings .

The HS2 is the biggest con in modern history the country skint but the goverment have billions to spend on a railway track absolute joke. The only winners are the contractors who build it. Wonder how many back handers it took to make the plan go ahead. Goverment scum bags. They charge you threw the nose to drive a 4x4 because its bad for enviroment but a high speed rail line that destroys unspoilt country side aint a problem, when there getting there billions of pounds worth of contracts up for grabs. Cuttle Mill is only one of many being effected there fair few special lakes going to suffer.

Would rather catch an uncaught English 30lb+ common from a secret lake that doesnt get fished. Roll on spring.

Meant N Trap.

I use supple braids for most my fishing ESP sink link is used for the majority of my fishing 15 or 20lb, Unless its really snaggy then i use korda N trap in 20lb. If im fishing shallow clear water then i use drennan double stregth in 10lb. I dont use any stiff materials!

Thats spot on. There times when a free lined bait will outfish any rig hands down, but how often does free lineing get coverd on these programmes. Very little because you only need a hook thats to cheap. Not that im complaining because the last thing i need is free lineing to become popular its a massive edge that very few people do. Let them think the latest wonder rig is the way forward on hot sunny july afternoon! On a prime spot 1m out on a silt patch in 2.5" of water! Thats the one!

My pop up rig is the same i dont make special rigs for pop ups a bit of putty on on my hook link jobs a goodun!

Always have a good gap between my bait and hook. I tweak the size of my hair to the size of the bait and hook im useing. I catch alot of fish with out a hair at all in the summer. I dont do much sitting behind the rods in the summer unless the conditions are bang on! As for useing different rigs thats a confidence thing i dont swap and change because im confident with my simple rigs and i think they will catch from any lake i fish. Dont want to blow my own trumpet here and dont want to come across as big headed but ive been top rod on every lake ive knuckled down on over the last ten years but its not because im better than any one else or rigs. Its because of the time ive put in and the effort i put in to locating the fish! If some one is always changeing there rigs its must be because there not getting the resualts they want from there fishing but rigs are useally not the problem its useally lack of time or there not getting on the fish. Alot of people are fooled into thinking that famouse anglers just turn up and catch big fish within hours because thats how it comes across on telly. But if the point on st johns gets shut for a few days and pre baited my nan could catch with in hours. What rig you drop amongst them fish doesnt really matter its going to go! I stay mobile use quality bait and put the time in rigs become secondry when you get location right as does bait to fair imo!
-
Ill use the same rigs pretty much everyware i go the only thing that changes to suit paticular venue is the length of the rig, the material used changes depending on water clarity and snags but apart from those few things my rigs wont change i have complete confidence in the rig i use! Not a chod in site!
-
Agree with you gary. The main thing when it comes to rigs is with out doubt hook sharpness. Im a massive believer in keeping things simple as possible. You carnt reinvent the wheel adding rings and micro swivels aint for me. Knotless knot bait on the hair away you go. I often hear people saying" im going to change my rigs" when there rigs are not the problem or at least it wasnt until they tinkerd about and added bells and whistles there problem is useally location! lot of people also carnt blank with out changeing rigs for the next session sometimes its as simple as the were not feeding on the day but because they watch fake fishing on DVDs and tv programmes where blanks are almost non existant they think that a blank means there not doing it right! Keep everything strong and simple and concerntrate on location not the latest wonder rig.

As ive said before for as long we rely on a lead to prick the fish for us we will have are backs to the wall! Ive watched carp come take and eject my rigs with no problem but when i strike as soon as they suck the bait in before the lead even moves there hooked almost every time! When floater fishing my take to hooked fish ratio is not far off 100% miss the odd one of coarse, but because im fishing for the take not the run im hooking alot more takes!

Forget rigs location location location. What angle your hair leaves the hook should be the least of your worries if the fish are up the other end of the lake!

There a couple of 20lb plus koi in a couple of lakes in telford problem is there concrete holes in the ground in the middle of a housing estate dont think it would be your scene but there nice looking fish! There used to be a stunning kio that was around mid 20ties in T lake, (Telford) which is a stunning lake but i havent seen it for a long time so i pressume it died or some one had it off, shame because the way it was growing it would have done 30 plus by now! A lthugh thats not much use to you now. Ive also seen a couple of bigguns in the river seven if you want more info on them you have to pm me! -
ill pm you mate

Always tie my own that way you only got yourself to blame if something goes wrong! As for buying rigs its a rip off and i imagine those who do aint always fishing with the sharpest hooks because they be less inclined to change them due to cost! Also some guy on 8 pence an hour in the far east couldnt care less if some guy in England loses a big fish!
-
Can sort of understand that the owner doesnt want it to be free for all because the place was digusting the amount litter was unbeleivble. If he was to extend and turned to syndicate it could be good thing. Dont no how you could sell or move the carp becuase they would need to test a certain amount of carp to get movement order. Then would the fish survive the move. The biggun is probs the most likely to belly up if they moved them. Was planning autum campaign on there so its typical its happend now! Oh well. Ware theres a will theres a way!

Anybody no whats happening at goldendale heard the council have clamped down on people fishing it.
-
Better places in that neck of the woods nice place though shame there aint few more target fish in there plus you carnt fish half the lake which dont help!
-
My point is for as long as we rely on the lead to drive the hook home when a fish takes the hook bait we are up against it. Imo you wont hook 7 or 8 out of ten pick ups with any rig in the world! Pressured fish impaticular are picking rigs up and rejecting them on a very regular basis far more than most people realise! The turner rig wont change that. The reason i said it looks poor is because of ware the bait is mounted there no seperation between the bait and the hook which i think will make life easier for the fish!
-
The known carp anglers do so well because they have good water craft, lots of time and bait and are fishing the best lakes in the country! Rigs are secondry when you get the most important things right! Location, time and effort! Simple Imo for as long as you rely on the lead to hook the fish theres not any rig out there that can stop the carp from getting away with it. When stalking ill watch a fish pick up my hook bait and strike before the lead even moves and hook them nine times out of ten. If i dont strike and wait for the lead to hook the fish they spit the bait vout 9 times out of ten , then iver keep munching as if nothings happend or just mooch of! If you put bells and wistles on the rig it wont help it just clutters things up!
-
Keep things simple. To be honest that rig looks terrible to me.

Linear Fisheries, Oxlease.
liamclose replied to carefulcarping's topic in UK Venues and Where to Fish
Thats the attitude to have down there just fish for 1 fish at a time. To many people go down fishing for the big hit. Best advice i can give you is DONT get the spod and marker out keep the disturbance and bait to a minimum. The way i see it most pegs been prebaited by the person that was on the peg before you! Dont ignore the margins especially the margin straight in front of the pegs these areas are ignored by most!
