  1. haha!! thanks for the recommendation Crusian, welcome to the forum Nik077 was looking at Esnes myself as not a lot of waters to go at around wolves (day tickets excepted), would have thought a sindie with fish to over 40lb and 18 acres to go at the £400 tag would have been good, is the stock that bad then??
  2. i have just been looking at the WULAC site, £100 per year for what is primarily a match club but then the night ticket is £200. even their jewel in the crown norton mere isnt worth the £300 price tag to fish it effectively.
  3. heya bud, i packed in my club ticket two years ago and have been looking for something similar ever since, there seems to be lots to go on but unrealistic prices. i will see if i can dig some out in case your a rich boiy
  4. heya Phil, good xmas? near enough £40? thats some carp tax bud, you can make one yourself for under £5.
  5. i just roll a spare canister up in my fleece and take it to bed with me, believe me it works
  6. i took the kids away for the week end late last year by the severn and asked the site ranger about their fishing rights on that stretch, his reply "we have 2 miles of this bank and as long as you are staying here its £5 a day, we dont ask for your license cos it just causes hassle but we expect you to have one"
  7. heres a quick bit of relevant trivia for ya, the largest UK loch caught pike ever recorded was weighed in at 77lb and measured 7ft long and although this is almost double the current record (T Morgan in 1947 lomond) of 47lb 11oz it was never declared as such, well not in 1777 anyway just shows, if they were there then what class of fish could be hiding in the loch's now.
  8. both loch's also contain atlantic salmon, they use Ness, Oich and lochy as spawning ground every year and as the fingerlings only move on after their second year that means they all have a permanent stock.
  9. you can find em on Ebay for less than £5 https://www.ebay.co.ukHollow-Hand-Vice these are the files.
  10. i just buy a set of Aldi diamond file specials, they have a wide selection all in one pack for about a £5er, last for years too a jewelers vice like the one below is also cheap as chips.
  11. how the hell do the CRT get away with calling it " the country’s best specimen carp fishery"? has got some massive carp tho, i did hear of a 20lber coming out last week and with carp averaging 14-16lb it will soon be on a par with the likes of linear or even monument, could even say it will be the UKs very own GIGANTICA!! 🤔 😂 😂
  12. must be good, the Druids were all over it!!
  13. i hate it when that last bit right by your toes wont get warm, gonna think up a way to insulate it more. tried draping my coat and hoodie over it and even holding a water bottle between my feet but all to no avail. cold feet it is then
  14. its most eminently possible that fish of that weight and over live in there, a ressa that has over 10 miles of margin, 3 miles long and over 2 mile wide and that not taking into account the smaller section the other side of the causeway, interesting fact: this ressa was used by 617 squadron (dam busters) for practice runs with the bouncing bombs for their campaign on the Rhur, during this practice it was refered to as 'colchester lake' 😛
  15. looking to acquire a set of waders, VASS is my prefered brand after a protracted search and just wondering if anyone @greekski @yonny have a specific recomendation or preference as to model they would like to share
  16. if your salford priors way have you tried the Arrow? there are some really tasty looking stretches alongside the bypass. i fished the upper stretches once but it was too fast a current for me cos i prefer a nice sluggish flow but there has got to be some lumps of one species or other
  17. i used to fish a stretch just out of the town center a few years ago and did quite well on maggots, boilies and luncheon meat. i parked at the hampton ferry car park and walked up the bank to the left (back toward town), the section just before the bend for a couple of hundred yards was the most prolific. i found a few holes (barbel and chubb) and a few area's of pads (carp) that were good, my pb's on that stretch were 9lb 5oz barbel, 17lb 3oz pike, 4lb 0oz chubb and 21lb 6oz common, and the biggest surprise was a 6lb 3oz golden tench. terminal tackle used was open end feeder stopped with bread and filled with mags and meat cubes with a cube topped with a couple of wrigglers on the hook and method filled with my own spicy groundbait and boilie crumb with a 10mm tight to a size 10 mugga. so as long as your not trying to break any records should be quite an eye opener
  18. poached pike steaks are out of this world bud get you the recipe if ya want
  19. tbh if i were just starting out and knowing what i know now i would start off somewhere were there was a high population of jack pike. the young ones seem to be a lot more forgiving than the old ladies and its a good way of getting that all important experience.
  20. it has always amused me that such a voracious predator can be so delicate. it was driven home to me when i caught my PB 25lb of solid scary muscle, handled like a baby and went belly up as it was gently slid back, took a good 10-15 mins to get it to stay upright and start to kick. i havent been piking since and i know what i am doing.
  21. i have a two TB hard drive to store my photo's on. i used photobucket to host to forums and as and when i come across one that is no longer in a post i just drag and drop a replacement from the hard drive, simples and no fear of losing those precious moments because some app developer got greedy
  22. is it for the two of you to share (2 man) or are you after one each (1 man), do you want quick and simple, cheap and cheerfull or all year rounder, the permutations are almost endless. answers to three questions will put you in the right area 1) what size do you need 2) what is your budget 3) how much use will it get i started with a huchinson two man old skool, could sleep 4 easily and was a female dog to put up, i then 'progressed' to a TFG force 8 one man pop up and while a doddle to put up (fastest was 3.5 mins including pegs) and quite roomy i missed swinging my cat round before bed, i then 'upgraded' to the force 8 two man and finally i was happy (cat wasnt though). the TFG 2 man lasted me 5 years and never leaked or gave me reason to moan but we carpers just love to move on so this year wifey gave me a nice shiney new hurricane AS two man bivvy by carpzone that has all the room that you will ever need. welcome to the forum Btw
