  1. thanks for all your replies, l will get a set of the diamond files it will save carrying round my 10'' flat file!
  2. hi, it might sound a stupid question but what is the best way of sharpening hooks, file or oil stone, also what is the best way of keeping them sharp when fishing?
  3. going to spain for a month in September, looking for any good carp rivers near Gerona / Barcelona , anybody been around that region?
  4. After just reading an article in a French carp magazine, the guy who wrote it fishes every year on the River Vienne for catfish which he says are around 15kg plus. His article do'snt say where abouts but it is in part of the river that is full of weeds, any body have any ideas?
  5. sounds not a bad idea, don't use facebook myself though
  6. just had two nice carp this weekend at St Leonard De Noblet, ( to me anyway ) at 4.5kg and 5.2kg both taken on Decathlon ring pellets, ( hav'nt got a clue whats in them, as theres nothing wrote on the bag! ) regarding barbell here on the Vienne, just below the weir near the paper mill they are coming out at 4lb - 4-5lb at the moment, while talking to the president of the association at St. Leonard he has caught barbell well in excess of 8lbs ) Above St Leonard on the Maulde , about 2klms upstream the carp are 20 - 30 lb and are known to be larger still at Bujaleuf but have never myself caught anything above 20lb.
  7. I have just had a week in Spain fishing, not a fishing trip but a holiday and took a rod with me, l went into the local Decathlon bought myself a kg of Ring pellets 4.95€ a kilo with also a litre of sardine oil 5.95€ ( l think it is for sea fishing ) but went on the River Muga and caught 2 nice river carp both around 5/6kg. The sardine oil do'snt smell of much but it certainly attracted the Turtles (Terrapins ) that must of been released into the river that was a pain in the rear like crayfish, l couldn't make out what are in the ring pellets, other than that they look like a halibut pellet but red'ish, the biggest problem l had was keeping the pellets on the hook without using a hair rig. l used the bait bands that either snapped or they just fell off when l cast out, anybody have any ideas to keep them on?
  8. When you are fishing for Barbell do you fish with pellets or on good old luncheon meat and corn. The biggest barbell i've caught was on luncheon meat and was around 5lb, l would love to get one at 20lb though!
  9. l fish the Vienne just below St Leonard de Noblet and the barbel are the same around 5lb. Is your local lake the one in Ladignac, never fished there, how big are the carp in there. The biggest ive had in my local lake was 11.6 kg.
  10. Hi, not fished up that end of the vienne, l normally fish the vienne around St Leonard de Noblat, or on the Maulde that feeds the vienne, lots of barrages on the Maulde with a good lake at Bujaleuf. I live south about 20 mins south of Limoges and also fish a local lake about 3 hectres with some good carp in , biggest I've had 11.4kg about 25lb, brugge
  11. many thanks for the reply, maybe l need to move up the river a bit to the other side of the dam. when your in France which rivers do you fish, brugge
  12. thanks for the replies, l was wondering the best way of presenting my bait in the river, the river at this time of year is fast flowing so l don't know whether anything l place near my hook bait is staying there, l have caught carp there before but not having a lot of luck at the moment also taking into account its winter, any tips, brugge
