  2. BUMP!! micro barbs are the way to go but as nick said, "this thread needs to be on top"
  3. quick google gives up the birmingham fazeley cut minworth stretch, threw up a 30lb fish last year
  4. plenty of overhanging trees around there jack, give it a go oh btw, welcome to the forum
  5. try using a knot that you dont have too much friction when tightening down like a palomar, or use plenty of lubrication. i use KY for lube er spit for lube and plenty of it, also make sure that you put equal tension on the standing and the tag ends.
  6. sion farm,,, no massive fish ( unless they have been planted since last summer) plenty of noddy monkeys tho. and for that reason i wont be back welcome from the wildside GCC
  7. Joking aside, I have found that good quality nail clippers are better than most supposed 'propper' braid scissors
  8. someone please explain to me how a slack line has better indication than a tight line? surely if you have a slack line with all the complications that this entails (slight coils and contour following to mention but two) the spare line has to be pulled tighter before you get the slightest beep on your alarms, giving the carp long enough to do one. having a 4oz housebrick for a bolt would also (imo) aid the dumping of the hook unless it was preternaturally sharp. whereas a tight line gives a beep even if the bait is just nudged away from you and add in a heavy running lead and it really doesn't matter which way old Cyprinus dodges you get a signal. also i feel that a tight line on a lake with a pretty even bottom you can add on a back lead with no detriment to bite indication, water acts as a lubricant on line so wet line thru a wet backlead clip = no resistance... again IMO.
  9. Never used anything but running inlines and razor sharp hooks, strangly enough never had a problem either

    Leadcore

i would say that it could do almost as much damage in the wrong hands mate

    Leadcore

Dont even have a runring, i only use inlines

    Leadcore

I think he may be non native tim and as such leadcore is probably an improvement lol. My tackle is as basic as i can get it, mainline has tail rubber then lead slid on, then #8 kwiklink. Onto that i plop my hooklink of the day and out it goes.. simples

    Leadcore

it is one of many that i have gathered together in a gallery of horror in my research into the effectiveness of leadcore as a leader Tim. if you zoom on the pic you can make out where the original hook was in the corner of the mouth and the leader has slid under a gill plate then just sawed up thru the body as the fish has struggled to free itself. nice init. and that is the reason i dont use leaders of ANY kind
  14. dont matter how we all feel about whats going on really, we can post till the cows come home but unless someone who really cares accidentally becomes prime minister it aint gonna happen is it
  15. hey Tim, never any need to feel wrong about being a beginner and that goes for anyone else. as carp fishing is still in its relative infancy, there are a lot of the so called experts and big guns out there that will know a lot less than the next generation of noobs coming up thru the ranks. some of those noobs that will actually come up thru these haloed portals we call carp.com, so be free with any info you have to share as you may be setting the next terry hearn or julian cundiff or even the next chilly on the righteous path.
  16. sounds like' if its on the hook it aint chumming' big pva bag on the hook would do me
  17. when i go out for the day my rod bag has six rods set up in it, 3 for my pod if its a nice sunny day and i feel like sitting behind the buzzers nodding, one set up for floating if i fancy giving the little ones a bash because one of our lakes has loads of small carp and tench from as small as 4 inch, and believe me when i say its a great pleasure to see the small pristine beauties coming on, looking at a tiny mirror scale and just knowing that one day it may be as large as a 50p piece or bigger. one for stalking if i "have to catch" and my fly rod for when i need a little sport. then theres the pole that i always take too just to pee people off. so as you see, variety is the spice of my life
  18. don't let anyone, especially youtube tell you how to fish. finding what works best for you is part of the great adventure that is carp fishing, it is ok to take on board the advice doled out at the carp.com pulpit but i bet none of the die hards on here take the info gleaned and use it undiluted. i'm not saying "don't ask for advice" because that would be stupid, even Dal, nick Tim or i have asked questions in the past, its how we learn. most of us are 'time served' but we can still learn from others, i have 50+ years from canal for gudgeon to carp but you should have seen my face when i first saw the bungee rig a couple of months ago bailiffs are only good for one thing and i will take that with a pinch of salt and that is bait info. i will use rigs from 3" to as long as 2ft depending on the lake or method that i am using at the time. enjoy your learning curve and tight lines
  19. cheapskate, i use a £2 coin. does the job twice as fast
