I dont look at the water temps, just one more reason not to be confident.
Tbh it's not about catching in winter for me. Its about enjoying the season. But..... my winter PB came on the second coldest sesh I've ever done (-5!!!!).
When times are hard i remember that Dave lane caught Mary from wrasbury in minus temps in Feb when there was 15 fish in 100 odd acres. My point: there is ALWAYS a chance.
The underside of my brolly is icing up. Tell you what fellas, I LOVE it!

Well that's lucky , the Winter Bite Time on my lake is roughly midday when it's the warmest - honest ! .

I hope you 2 aren't too cold , and are getting some sort of perverse pleasure in fishing at night in these temperatures ! .
Just out of interest , how low would the water temperature have to get before even you 2 considered it a complete waste of time going fishing ? ; or is it a case of  as long as you can smash the ice to get a cast in you'd go ? .

Nothing on this Earth could persuade me to fish beneath high-voltage power lines like those, particularly at the lowest point of sag.
Carbon fibre conducts electricity almost as well as a lump of copper does and a 12ft length of it in the hands, along with damp/wet conditions is a recipe for death.  To each his own, of course.

Warm in the sleeping bag and the kettle is on. All changes if you get a run. The adrenaline kicks in and you're warm for a good while afterwards.
Personally I'll stop doing nights when I've found the winter bite time, if it's during the day anyway. It can be draining due to the cold but worth it (or I'm mad)
as soon as it's icing over is normally a good time to stop though. I have seen some lad having his rod tips submerged thinking it'll help but it doesn't. Best thing I've seen was a beanie unhooking mat secured over submerged rod tips. Get a run and whip it off and lift the rod up (or play the fish under ice). I have done a day session on a frozen lake before, and managed to catch. But it wasn't very nice playing them so they smash the ice with their tails. Never again.

    Good luck fella's
I drew a blank but never mind, I'll be back out Wednesday. I did move on to a couple of shows but nothing materialised, I did get soaked packing up but 20 minutes later I was back home warming up in front of the fire
It doesnt matter how hard it gets or how dreadful the weather is, time on the bank is a medication I'm quite willing to take
I'll be back out Monday afternoon getting some more bait in then fishung Wednesday.
As I said, good luck fella's

    Hi Cyborx
I've got Ocean Waders , I haven't used them a great deal , but I'm pleased with them so far - flexibility and quality feel to the material .
    However , I've never owned Vass Waders so I can't compare .
I did try some Trakker Chesties on in the shop , but never having used Chesties before I found the amount of material a bit overwhelming .

Not as far as I can see. I've used braided rigs for hundreds of years, plain braid, combi rigs and coated braid.
It was Danny Fairbrass who said he never needed rig tubing on knotless knotted rigs, but I'm wondering if that was with stiffer materials.

I watched fish in Chantry park lake  pick up my carefully positioned braid knotless knotted rigs, from a distance of about 3metres. I saw the hookbait go back, in the mouth, saw the hook and bait come flying out again, on both semi fixed and running leads. I swapped straight back to a line aligner and put the rigs back in the same place, and hooked my next two pickups, from fish that I had watched eject the other rigs.

On Thwaite, I used to use the water as my experiment lake, where I researched lead setups, running vs semi-fixed, helicopter, leadcore, and even baits.
I got numerous single bleeps with the same knotless knotted rig, (water colour meant I couldn't watch them close up), no development of the take, even though we could see the water rocking.  A switch back to line aligner there with running leads and I started hooking them again.
Thwaite was not a particularly pressured carp water either, mostly fished by match anglers, so rigs should not have been a major issue.

Longshank hooks tend to be more difficult to eject, but the length can supposedly lead to mouth damage, a line aligner replicates the difficulty to eject as the bent hook rig, but with tubing no mouth damage.

Bought a second hand old 12m fishing pole £10. Cut the last section fitted a  threaded bankstick adapter on the end, cheap baiting spoon and piece of foam pipe insulation.
    Job done !

Not sure on the material mate. For the amount of time I use it, the weight isn't an issue. To be fair, I haven't noticed it at all. As most people who know me will will tell you, I take the absolute minimum kit with me, apart from bait. The pole is always in my quiver and if the weight was an issue, I wouldn't be carrying it!

Fantastic bits of kit wouldn't be without it and can personally say the two biggest carp I have ever caught in the UK were because the pole got me into the exact spot with a little bit of free samples and rig with little or no disturbance !
    Cheers

    Hello Highy
IMO if you can tie rigs like the ones you have shown you can easily tie a Ronnie Rig , or as Greekskii says a Multi Rig .
Personally I would go for a Gardner Mugga Sz. 6 and have the Hook Stop set lower down the hook shank opposite the point of the hook . I'm also a floss man , using a Hook Ring Swivel .
    🙂
