    Hello mate,

Thanks for the detailed response,  The Squid does smell good, funny how it's only us anglers that appreciate the smell, my mrs says it stinks! lol!!

I've got some shrimp in shelf life, do you use shelf life exclusively now? I've dabbled with them in the past. lost one on my last outing after baiting with Trent Shrimp shelf life only.

Trent said about mixing both but that fried my brain even more, I only like to use one boilie.

With a quality name like SAS (who dares wins) makes me think it will be the squid.

Lets see, its a biggie for me changing.

    Thanks again pal. :)

    Its much appreciated!

    Hi Luke

Funnily enough my Wife is very reluctant when I suggest  she smells my boilies , these ladies  just don't know what they're missing ! .

I only use the stabilised ,which are marketed as an improvement to shelf life , but my stabilised have lasted considerably longer than they are supposed to .

I read an article by Shaun Harrison in which he said he liked to use 2 different flavours and colours concurrently .

Whatever you do decide , Luke , tight lines .

    Hi,

Has anyone done well on Trent SAS Squid? I purchased a kilo of each SAS Squid, Shrimp and matching cork ball pop ups. They both look and smell amazing, I'm torn between the 2 and am looking to bulk buy soon.

I see online lots of folk rate the shrimp, not much info on the SAS squid.

Squid flavoured baits do well on my lake, but shrimp sounds like it can't be ignored.

    Thanks

    Luke

    Hello Luke .

I started off using Shrimp and Squid in 15mm frozen , but eventually was able to switch to stabilised .

I wanted to go down in size to 12mm and there was a minimum order  , at the time , of 5kg ,and I couldn't afford to buy both , so I went for the Squidy goodness .

I recently bought 1kg of 12mm Shrimp , and ran both the Squid and Shrimp together , but I find I radiate towards the Squid .

I'm not saying the Squid is definately better than the Shrimp it's just that I have more confidence in the Squid - I guess I just like the smell ! .

    😃

Personal experience is years and years ago now so probably not much use. Tried the switch when first released and found it poor compared to fishmeals.

a friend has done extremely well on the bug in recent years.

    Thanks , greekskii .

Funnily enough I was looking particulary at the Bug .

I bought 20kg of S7 and failed to catch anything but 3 tench from St Ives, might have been out my depth at the time though. So possibly not a fair reflection. Their hookbaits never seemed to set the world on fire for me either though. But might again be me.

    Thanks , Elmo , that's a nicely  balanced review .

It doesn't always pan out no, however the biggest hits of fish I've experienced myself or witnessed for others were all on super low pressure systems, I only really get excited if it's proper low like 970's then it is ON no doubt.  Slightly low pressure like 990's 1000 - nothing special IMO I can miss those sessions coz I know it's not gonna do anything or much at all - super lows are rare like a couple a year maybe - don't miss those 👍

    Hi Kev.

A tackle shop on their facebook post has pointed out that Weds. - Friday the air pressure is dropping , but not a super low ?, so I'll probably stay home in the warm safe from the rain , and the mud .

blanked unfortunately, but try again soon!

I see you are fishing in the same swim that you were in December , and if ayone was going to be daft enough / dedicated enough to fish in this weather my money would be on you , Ouch .

Not sure if this is the right section to add this but....

Many over a certain age will remember the original series, it's now on YouTube with a new series and they have their own channel.

I have watched the first two episodes and have to say I really enjoyed it, so refreshing to not hear some bloke banging on about big carp captures, which in my opinion has been done to death.

I am no way associated with the channel, but if you want a break from the usual stuff, maybe give it a try?

Thank you OldBoy , I have been watching the first episode , and I'm enjoying it's quiet charm .

I like the way Matt just casually mentions helpful tips , makes me think " I'll give that a go " .

Althoigh it's not really cold at the moment, and to continue doing my winter sessions in some sort of comfort I always use base layering ..

Anyway I thought to upgrade and have bought Zerofit 'heatrub' made in Japan....all I can say is get some !!!!

I've got 2 , and as you say they're very warm , although they don't seem to breath much and you can get a bit of a sweat on if you're not careful 😁 .

The Fortis Tundra salopettes are the best clothing item I've bought recently, waterproof and very warm indeed.

I bought the matching coat but in hindsight I'g go for their marine jacket instead as I cannot see me using the Tundra coat as I'm already warm enough in the salopettes.

Already got lightweight waterproof trousers and jacket but would look at the Fortis Marine stuff if I didn't 👍

Whilst the Catchdry coat may be good, for me personally it's too long and bulky - cant see that being suitable for days roving the river or carp stalking, but were all different.

Fortis looked at the serious competition (Geoff Anderson) and made stuff that probably almost matches but at a much lower pricepoint, serious clothing for serious anglers I'd say so you get what you pay for, but the pricepoint of Fortis is much lower than Grundens and Geoff Anderson.  Serious carp clothing was long overdue so well done Fortis I say.

Thanks very much for your detailed reply , Kev.

The weather is only relevant insofar as it affects the water conditions. Cold rain in autumn sinks quickly and forms a dense layer of chilled water on the bottom. Place your baits above the bottom to pick off fish sitting above that cold layer.

Thanks , Serenity , that makes a lot of sense .
