  1. your right you cant beat a good book about carp fishing. not wanting to be controversial though, but sadly alot of what we read is not always exactly how it happened. ive read a fair number of books and have had the pleasure to fish along side a number of the authors and their friends and its quite eye opening as to the real happenings around some of the captures of certain fish. i wish they would just write it as it happened. if the angler was drunk, stoned, "guesting", breaking every rule going when they had a certain capture then why dont we hear about it . thats why the best book ive read is micky gray's book " a merry olde dance". what you read is exactly what happened, its warts and all, excellent book.
  2. it may be down to the fact that carp can feed differently from water to water. for instance i have a group permit for a some lakes local to me. the fish are of the same strain the 2 lakes that i fish are no more than 50metres apart. ive been on 1 of the lakes for a few seasons so last year tried the other lake. went on there with the rig thats done me really well on the other lake which was 10 inch of jelly wire, inch stripped back tied to a fox arma point Ls size 6. now the first few fish i caught the hook fell out whilst in the net and then i had a hook pull. i then changed to a korda wide gape size 6 and then never had another hook pull. now this weekend i went back to the old lake for a change and had 3 takes. the first 2 on wide gapes which done me well last year on the 2nd lake were only just hooked so decided to use the fox Ls rig that i used to use on this lake and the 3rd caught on this rig was nailed .
  3. Or simply tied on a weak link at the bottom end, also stops the lead getting too close to the fish during battle. yes mate will do the job as well
  4. My bottom bead is 12inchs from the lead and i find it to be spot on. Also the new gardener c shaped clips will sort the lead getting stuck. They come in 2 ir 3 sizes depending on how heavy your lead is. They are plastic so if the lead gets jammed they break and leave the lead so you can carry on playing the fish
  5. never had a pick up either though lol
  6. as much as the man is hated by people, i would go on you tube to view jim shelleys blogs and you will see how to tie it on there. been tying it his way for the past 3 years and ive never lost a fish on it
  7. id be confident using it on any kind of bottom. not that i do. but if i get on showing fish then that is the first rig i will put out. 0.5-1oz leads, little disturbance and i know im fishing no matter what the bottom.
  8. ive got a parsons jack russell and 10 goldfish. my dog is sadly not a carp dog as she cant sit still for more than 5 minutes
  9. these are the ones ive started using and am well happy with them. and as you say you can set it up so its safe with leadcore.
  10. there's only one maggot rig and thats the mag-aliner, simples
  11. never had a problem with the korda lead clips myself. what i do is when i buy the lead clips and tail rubbers i will push a tail rubber onto every clip all the way down. that way it stretches the tail rubber therefore enabling the lead to eject that much easier .
  12. if you want to match your braid to a silt bottom then what i do is take a piece of rig putty and pull the material through it a few times quite fast. the friction warms the rig putty which leaves a very thin layer on the braid the length of the rig. you then have coloured braid and it will sit very nicely on the deck
  13. I don't agree. Most of my fishing is with size 4s, regardless of bait. same as. I want a big bit of metal to nail'em, regardless the size of hookbait. Size 4's & 5's my favourites. Infact done 1 season using size 2's. They didnt get away;-)
  14. . that fried my head too. just find the fish and chuck a simple knotless knot rig at them. simples and as for you not wanting to overload your rods with a pva bag and lead your going to have a loaded method feeder, pva mesh bag, bait wrapped in paste. the second part sounds like it would be heavier than a pva bag and lead
  15. so if bryan jarrett told you to jump under a bus would you do that as well
  16. id like to know what the opening post means by heavy weed if i can cast out a 12inch rig and then let it settle on top of the weed then im fishing nothing more than a bit of candy floss .
  17. have the beads apart mate, that way when the fish picks up your bait it cannot use the weight of the lead to throw the hook.slack line is a must.
  18. ive spoke to 1 of the gardener consultants on my lake regarding this line again and he said that this new line has the same make up(co-polymer waffle thingy majig) as the gt80 i think but at less money.he says it has excellent abrasion qualities,as nick has already tested it has a higher breaking strain than quoted,it casts well, the more it is used the heavier the line becomes,so therefore sinking faster(so ideal if you like your line slack and on the deck),so looks like i'll be having me self some
  19. is this the line that gardener have just released?on my current syndicate there are a few gardener consultants, chatting to one of them he couldnt rate there new line highly enough.and all have said how good this line is,but they are going to say that aren't they.its good to hear an independant review.what sort of price is it nick out of curiosity?
  20. i use big hooks with small baits on my choddys.size 5 fox arma point sr or jrc mbt4 in size 4,i then use pop ups no bigger than 14mm.it certainly works for me,i then use 25lb mouth trap for the hooklink
  21. the humble chod rig,simples
  22. korda mouth trap
  23. fox arma point range or atomic range, though i have just started to use the jags hook sharpening range and boy you can get them mega sharp.
  24. just out of curiosity nick what was the altenative leader you once printed a picture of on another thread.if i recall it looked like leadcore but was safer in your eyes.not sure if ive explained it enough for it to jog your memory of it.
