  1. if you want to match your braid to a silt bottom then what i do is take a piece of rig putty and pull the material through it a few times quite fast. the friction warms the rig putty which leaves a very thin layer on the braid the length of the rig. you then have coloured braid and it will sit very nicely on the deck
  2. I don't agree. Most of my fishing is with size 4s, regardless of bait. same as. I want a big bit of metal to nail'em, regardless the size of hookbait. Size 4's & 5's my favourites. Infact done 1 season using size 2's. They didnt get away;-)
  3. . that fried my head too. just find the fish and chuck a simple knotless knot rig at them. simples and as for you not wanting to overload your rods with a pva bag and lead your going to have a loaded method feeder, pva mesh bag, bait wrapped in paste. the second part sounds like it would be heavier than a pva bag and lead
  4. so if bryan jarrett told you to jump under a bus would you do that as well
  5. id like to know what the opening post means by heavy weed if i can cast out a 12inch rig and then let it settle on top of the weed then im fishing nothing more than a bit of candy floss .
  6. have the beads apart mate, that way when the fish picks up your bait it cannot use the weight of the lead to throw the hook.slack line is a must.
  7. ive spoke to 1 of the gardener consultants on my lake regarding this line again and he said that this new line has the same make up(co-polymer waffle thingy majig) as the gt80 i think but at less money.he says it has excellent abrasion qualities,as nick has already tested it has a higher breaking strain than quoted,it casts well, the more it is used the heavier the line becomes,so therefore sinking faster(so ideal if you like your line slack and on the deck),so looks like i'll be having me self some
  8. is this the line that gardener have just released?on my current syndicate there are a few gardener consultants, chatting to one of them he couldnt rate there new line highly enough.and all have said how good this line is,but they are going to say that aren't they.its good to hear an independant review.what sort of price is it nick out of curiosity?
  9. i use big hooks with small baits on my choddys.size 5 fox arma point sr or jrc mbt4 in size 4,i then use pop ups no bigger than 14mm.it certainly works for me,i then use 25lb mouth trap for the hooklink
  10. the humble chod rig,simples
  11. korda mouth trap
  12. fox arma point range or atomic range, though i have just started to use the jags hook sharpening range and boy you can get them mega sharp.
  13. just out of curiosity nick what was the altenative leader you once printed a picture of on another thread.if i recall it looked like leadcore but was safer in your eyes.not sure if ive explained it enough for it to jog your memory of it.
  14. if you want to use the chod rig mate then go ahead, ive been a convert for 2 seasons now and my catch rate has without doubt gone up.99% of my fish have been nailed 1inch to 2inches back in the mouth bang centre with 2 hook pulls from over 50 fish.this weekend i done a few nights on my spring water which has some low weed but the rest is mainly a sandy bottom where the lead plugs in big style.i had 3 rods out all on the sand 1 chod rig with 6ft of esp sand coloured leadcore and 2 with fluro carbon straight to lead clip and balanced baits on fluro/combi links.2 fish both on the chod."chods for nods" so what if im a noddy then so be it and like you have said why do some of our best anglers use it if its as dangerous and as hopeless as it is made out to be.dont get me wrong in the wrong hands and tied incorrectly it WILL be a death rig which no one wants.ive been carp fishing about 20yrs now and boy do i wish i new about that rig from day 1. oh and nick is that patternoster rig not from the original korda rig guide? the same korda that you and most other anglers on here slate and here you are publicising them tut tut

    rig putty

as above, kryston heavy metal for me.one of the first out there and in my opinion the best
  16. take a look at atomic tackle.they do drop off inline leads, they have a slot in them and they come off everytime.
  17. Atomic tackles jelly-wire is good with the figure of 8 loop knot.you can even blob the tag end.
  18. rigs stay the same, total change of bait though, which has been going in now for the past 6 weeks.the only change to tackle is a lighter mainline as the weed dies off
  19. when it comes to coated braid then my first choice is Atomic Tackles "jellywire" after that then kryston coated braids would be my next choice
  20. atomic chodda hook in size 6 with korda mouthtrap in 25lb,jobs a good un
  21. if your still confused then why dont you look on youtube or the like and type in jim shelley/chod and see how he ties it,mr shelley is not everyones cup of tea but when it comes to fishing the chod he is the chodfather.
  22. when i find it necessary to use the chod i always make sure that the bottom bead(the one nearest the lead)is 12inches away from the lead.and i make sure that the bead cannot slip down.i have used leads from 1oz-3.5oz and never had a problem
  23. ive used the rig a few times and have caught using the rig with an atomic chodda hook, the fact that the eye is out turned i feel makes the hook point take hold better than a curve shanked hook anyway
  24. the hooks i use for my chods are atomic chodda hooks in size 6,or for a beaked point hook i use jrc mbt4 in size 4.ive used the latter hook all spring, dropping 1 fish out of 34 takes in a relatively weedy water.though i have heard these hooks are to be discontinued so if you want some get in there quickly
