  1. Anyone know how it's fishing? I've never fished it before and I fancy doing a day sesh to get a bend in my rod. Cheers Neil.
  2. From what I hear it's crayfish hell. Make sure you have a few back up plans in your back pocket. Mr cottham covers it in his book.
  3. Over cast to the far bank and leave it there...you won't catch a fish...but if you turn your alarms right up everyone will think your having a belting session with all of the pulls from the rats. What everyone else thinks matters more than actually catching... Right? Mr. Shirt heed.
  4. Difficult to describe...but I'll have a go. Make a loop around two fingers and the make another loop at the side of it around just one finger. Pass the line through both loops four times. Hold the bigger loop open and tighten the smaller loop down to make your slip knot. Put the bigger loop over your boilie and tighten it. The put a couple of granny knots in it to lock it in place. Does that make sense?
  5. I have lost some (read more than one) very big fish through poorly tied knots...that I have thought..."it'll do", because it was late /dark/raining etc. I'd like to say I won't make the mistake again. Hopefully I won't.
  6. What's your budget chris?
  7. Ok ...it may have been a bit Tongue in cheek.
  8. A supple sinking braid is best for this.
  9. "Too much beer"... Is that possible?
  10. Ok....so use the lightest tip you can get away with to register bites more easily. When it s is windy, or when there is a flow(ie. A river) you'll need a stiffer tip to stop getting false indications or getting the tip pulled right around till it hits the blank. Leads on there on own can be used to search around the swim till you get a bite and want to start introducing some bait...or in winter when you are just fishing for a bite or a fish. Feeders are used to put a bed of bait down...again use the lightest you can get away with for the distance you want ot fish, or to hold it in position on a river....unless you are fishing the method, when you are using the weight of the feeder to help set the hook.
  11. Thanks for the post Slick- I was thinking about taking a mate down to show him how to fish the method- I won't bother now. If you happen to find out when its re-filled- can you drop us a line.
  12. I've wandered around a few times...lovely place. From what I made out its not an easy water and the stock is a topic of some discussion. It had issues with car security at one stage. On the plus side there's a curry house and a pizza place that deliver. All of which will indicate I don't really know anything of consequence.
  13. ....Hold on... ...We might be saying that... The tackle industry are making us buy things we don't need; by making it seem more complicated than it really is??? No Way!!! Can't see it!!! Refuse to believe it!!! So all this time I've been buying rig gear- I should have been developing watercraft. Damn your eyes fairbrass and your affable demeanour!!!
  14. Good hooks- £1 toooo expensive for me tho I got them out of the bargain bucket of my local tackle shop...£1 a pack Result.
  15. Sometimes do you think they just make stuff up to write about???? Some drill their baits and put cork in them, some use the KD, now we have ultra heavy baits. I reckon a bottom bait will catch 95% of the carp that light, heavy, balanced baits will (with the exception of choddy/ silty bottoms that need a pop up) Some writers say...you must have something to make your bait stand out...some say they must look like the freebies. Every article contradicts the next... I think they all need to go and get proper jobs and stop writing cobblers.

    gravel rigs

    I'm with you Z...if it's a clean gravel bottom...flouro combi, Albright knot,braid. Probably a longshank hook,blowback ring and a bottom bait.
  17. Took some Nash fang x in size 1 on my hols this year. Faultless...not one snapped or opened...fish to 85 on them.
  18. Let us know how you get on Rich. Heard they like garlic hemp.
  19. Wraysbury?
  20. Well...sat in the bivvy. Been knocking out helicopters with PVA stringers on the hook all afternoon...no problems. Don't they write some rubbish in magazines...I'll dig the article out and name and shame the numpty.
  21. Shame to hear that, with a price of a ticket...you'd think he'd be on that.
  22. Go on. I'm lost. Can't see why a few boilies on a stringer or a little bag on the hook wouldn't work?
  23. I've just gone back to helicopters after some time away from them. I read somewhere recently that you can't use pva bags or stringers with them. I intend to give it a go next time out...but wondered if anyone had any experience?
  24. One of my favourite rigs is a hinged stiff rig with a long shank nailer.
