  1. Yep loads, what do you want to catch and what level of carp angling are you at??? Also around what part of Northants.??
  2. It is Irchester mate, I live about 2 mins from them and fished them FOR FREE many years back...... I can get you the contact number if you like, i know a couple lads on there. Proper water and not the easiest to say the least..... perfect if you like camping and sleeping.
  3. Yeah the boards swims are a little shallower but off 43 it was 16 foot deep. made for interesting casting and landing fish on the zig.
  4. Barbel..... not many but plenty of bream. the chub are good fun. Good luck with it mate. hope you have a few.
  5. I have seen a few people in the past fishing the strech near Ransome road pit before the a45 flyover. i know you can walk to that too. Not sure what the Nene is like behind the council offices. The water in looks right up at that part but where the canoe thing is there is the pathway down the river following the a45. could be worth a look. Never seen anyone fishing there though normally up stream of that to be honest.
  6. The river was running through like chocolate the other day, should be just nice by then it will fine down lovely. Whos stretch you fishing? Northampton nene ac??
  7. I took a guy out fishing the other week and went to drayton. we had a blinding day. It was his first time out fishing for carp so had to go somewhere for runs. We fished 42 and used zigs and soup and had 17 fish from 12 till 5pm. the first boards swim is still the hot swim.
  8. I have fished the water a couple of times and to be fair i have found fish all over. i did though take a particular fancy to the top corner there are some nice swims on both sides of this, one it really well tucked away and the fish hold in the margins so 2 rods slack lines and hey presto. some cracking fully scaled mirrors in there. I have seen the fish come on beds of particles and pellet. last time i fished there i used a bed of boilies, time before i used big pva bags of pellet just underarmed down the margin. Its not a dificult water so you should find success if you get on the fish.
  9. Ditchford - Happy Days! The small lake was like features galore, everyone had their own little section - superb! The big lake well that seemed to hold a few lumps, I wish I'd have seriously carp fished these pits while I had the chance - but I was just winter piking. The Wellingborough ticket used to have a small pit on it over the road from Barnwell, whats that one called? Was told at the time that it was weed choked but contained a small number of large fish. I reckon in a couple of years I'll be fishing down your way week in week out. I recon you should new Kev, its the place to be getting tickets for, you wait and see. As for ditchford, i learned to fish on there for the tench and roach. the first pit was propper, all them reeds growing out all about the place and the deeps with the overhangs and stuff. the causeway was always a good choice apart from the walk. although my favourite used to be off the elbow on the river bank or about 150 yards further back towards the lock. great float fishing. Some propper fish in there now. Not all massive and not the easiest place but very nice place to fish. The lake at barnwell was good, fished it maily for the cruisians and tench but some good carp in there too. Lost a whacker in the top corner where the marina is. Loved the top corner swim casting down the margin to the left where the trees had overgrown and there was no swims......
  10. Irthilingborough, i know all that area. I grew up fishing the nene on the wellingborough district ticket. Live i Wellingborough so only 3 mile up the river. Used to go behind the pinetree's estate to fish the lakes and river years and years ago and used to fish 14 arches and ditchford all the time. you cant go far wrong anywhere in the area for the carp they are all the way down the nene.
  11. what stretch do you plan on fishing, i have lived next to the river for 25 years, There are plenty of carp about. When i fish the river i bait a few spots in the margins then walk between them seeing if the baits have been fed on and sometimes catch fish having a munch. Once you find one thats been cleared up put a little more on and drop the rig in and just wait.
  12. Fair play to them. As for spot checks, they never work. The main reason is once the rig is in place you would not get a good reaction from guys if your asking them to crank in. Some carping situations mean winding in and re chucking could spoil your chances and those of people next door to you. On the lake i fish one of the lads had the biggest fish in the lake...... well it was before it was tethered up and has now dropped a massive amount of weight.... infact 25% of its body weight and now has an enormas scare for its troubles. This fish was over 40lb, luckily its still swimming, it could have been a whole lot worse.
  13. I did not see the one i use but this is how you tie it. Overhand knot in the leader (dont pull tight) thread your mainline through it then coil around the leader 7 times up then 4 times on the way bac and put this through the loop created between knot and the 2 pieces of line. wet and pull up slowly. as the knot forms wet again then holding all tag ends pull up tight. perfect knot and very reliable.
  14. I ahve been up here before and found it alright. The first swim would be a good swim wit hall those lillies to the right and an easy chuck to the far bank. I had a walk around in the winter this year and a lad had 2 from the first swim, only low doubles though.
  15. In dense weed i would be using a clip, just purely for if you crack off or the line parts leaving a length behind it an in line or running rig needs to pass over all this line before its off the line and not being towed around. Its all too easy for the line to twist and clog so that the lead will not pass over it. However i am sure there are inline leads with a groove cut out of them (like the korda flying back leads) and these would pull up out of the weed better than a pendulem set up and would also fall off the line should it part.
  16. Some of the pike ones can be a little coarse, you need to go vertical or the ridges stop the hook going in too far.
  17. Tony they can be quite safe mate, they come out of the weed easier than a pendulem lead, just be mindfull the lead comes off the swivel. I personally wouldn't use in dense weed though. just incase you crack off.
  18. I do a double loop, like the guys say with a larger loop it works the same. Another thingf i think i will try is the korda stops, those extending jobbies as that gives you a few options too.
  19. Personally i dont think you need to do too much with the hooks. I used to have a hook sharpener in my box, you just dip it in water then when the tip of the hook goes you just give it a couple of rubs not sand it right back. I used this alot when match carp fishing on castle ashby and drayton where you would catch 20-30 fish a session and rig tying was time consuming, just a qick rub once the hook point dulled down. I would say have one, but only use it if you can notice a blunting of the hook. Dont forget you can knock the top off the hook with a finger nail if your not carefull and the hook sharpener would save you a couple quid in the long run. Where do you get them from?? i need a new one as mine is near dead and i like it for my pike hooks too.
  20. Used to fish out that way a few times a little while ago. the mill is on the cross roads as you go into the village and the cricket ground/club is on the left of the entrance. Nice little pool, some good fish in there too, best swims used to be the point swims on the right hand bank just past the aerator pump and the lillies. My PB grassy come from that lake on floatfished bread on the back swims where the conifer trees are (3rd swimm along from the corner) the point on the back bank was also very productive if it was busy.
  21. Just out of interest are you still using a hanger/indicator withthe slack line??? reason i ask is if you have a slack line the indicator gives enough resistance to the alarm to spin the wheel. If you have no hanger on then the line is sitting above the wheel and it will not spin as easily. With a slack line you register the bite earlier, reason is the line pulls tight and moves easier, a tight line needs the stretch of the line first before it takes line from the reel and so make the alarm beep. One thing, if you set your rods up on the bank correctly for running rigs you will get better indication and also be able to use lighter leads. The tighter your line the heavier the lead needed because underpressure the lead is a pivot point, slack it is not. The best way is tyo create as few angles in the line from reel to lead. meaning point the rod at the lead, and also angle the tip of the rod and butt of the rod so that the line comes direct from the line roller on the bail arm to the lead. All you then want to do is strip a couple yards of line off the spool, wait for it to settle and rest the hanger on the ground. Once picked up the hanger creates the pressure and the alarm beeps.
  22. One thing that i do with any coated braid or fluro is do the knot which ever you find best, but before you tighten it right down just dap a little spit on it then tighten it up over your boiling kettle, the heat makes it more supple when pulling tight and so get a tighter knot and one that wont flex when you hook a fish, result- less crack offs with fluro and less coiling up. i personally use either a figure 8 loop or 3-4 turn uni for my fluro.
  23. Never watched a Korda vid in full, watched about 30 mins at the lake with a friend and decided i caught enough fish without confusing myself on that make believe suposedly real bit of film........ Of course the fish acted cautiously.... there was a dirty great CAMARA in the blooming swim....... forget consealing the rig what about that camara...... maybe it had a camo leader on it in place of its cord. The Rig is not ideal, that much is true. However once a bait is on the hair it would not come undone too easily. The tube with hinder the hook penetrating deep so will bend out easier and also change the point of pressure and pop it out. I made a rig for pop ups that had not rings and such like on it. just make a loop in the fluro, tie it up knotless leaving a small loop, to this tie on some braid for a hair and because its supple against a stiff link it works like a hinge and the bait moves and the hook stays put, like a rig ring..... you can then lengthen the hair for bottom rigs etc and the fluro creates the turn effect at the hook eye.
