I dont mind the huts to be honest, would be nice to just take the bag and rods some times wouldnt it. It could be done tastefully your fishing from set swims anyway so whats the bother, not like your pioneering new locations. Mostly your setting your 2 ton bivvy up on well groomed, wood chipped, flat ready made swims.

Its still on a club ticket, this year they are doing a night ticket for these to the first 100 people so if you want to fish them you need to be quick, £30 for the club membership and £60 foe the night ticket. There are some real stunners in there and some are getting to a good size so worth the money.

What do you mean 'Stupid prices' the price hasn't changed here, it's the plummeting pound that that makes it appear that way. 1 Euro here is 1 Euro end of, the Fench (and the rest of Europe) don't give a toss that our currency fluctuates every other day If people can't do without 'Brown sauce' for a few days in France, either bring it with you or pay the price without the moaning !!!! Or God forbid try some French food and maybe enhance the whole experience Disco I thought the whole point of the thread was to show the travelling anglers what they would encounter so they could bring their own stuff if they couldn't do without it rather than have their hands forced into paying stupid price for the things they trust. I would happily try the french stuff but sometimes you need to know what your eating rather than hoping you like what you find. I have a cash and carry card for the UK, maybe i could help you guys out with some cheap goodies.....

Very good thread this, and dead handy if your planning your first trip. I found some of the prices were massive, 1euro per can of soft drinks and 2euro per 500ml bottle. The food like you say is expensive. I paid 4.50 euro for a Ham and cheese roll While travelling through. You should keep us posted through the year, that would be really useful

For me i rarely use different rigs, just stick to one i have confidence in. As for when, safety clip for weed or when you need the lead to come off, Helicoptor for distance as it is less prone to tangles, running rigs for clean bottoms at short range. Thats my generalisation, other will do different things but the golden rule is use what you are comfortable with and what you have confidence in.

Looks a cracking venue, never been but does look very good. the owner (davew) used to be a member on here and seems a top guy.

got two weeks off in jan were to fish in the midlands

Like that however nothing like it was, and no night fishing. I am led to believe that they have suffered a couple of fish kills and problems although there are that many fish you should still find it easy in winter. 5 fish a day is not un common upto 20s -

if you have 2 weeks off why not travel a little bit to waters you wouldnt fish other wise. Nice shallow mill pond or estate lake somewhere would be my choice. -

Yeah there is a waiting list for roman, If the guys know you then maybe not so bad to get on Having the other waters is a good way of vetting potential member if you catch my drift. I fancy a year or 2 on roman at some stage..... I am on wellingborough, Its a good mix to be honest but if this year is anything to go by then its busy...... We will see about next year. Ecton is cracking, one i fancy too. The list is endless, you could go on Ditchford (where i learned how to fish) if you can get on. Also south view farm is an awsome place, So many to have a go at. -
How are you attaching your maggots?? i normally fish 10lb fluro then where the hair would nomally be i dot the fluro with a lighter then i thread maggots onto a piece of cotton the tie this to the fluro and it locks on the blob, this help them to stop wriggling around and masking the hook. I normall fish a mugga size 10 for this but most hooks will do the biz. This is tied up almost KD rig style again to keep the maggots away from the hook. Try balencing the hook with a fake one or something too, just super glue one to the shank or something. or slide it up the fluro hair then blob it after...... loads of ways but hopefully you can see a way that will work for you.

There are loads mate, Not much of a waiting list on any water if you know who to speak to. What waters do you fancy so far?? also what do you want to spend. What is your target for the year?? if you know what you want to achieve the list gets smaller. -
Thats right Sime, thats partly why i dont bother there now. I used to do 3 hours stalking or floater fishing of an evening which was £8 a go. I would have loved a season permit on there at the time however they would have needed an eviction notice to get me out of my swim.

Dont know what Phil will do with the price, i haven't fished it since it was £12 fr 24 hours. i know its £18 now but thats a bit much in winter to blank if you ask me. Ask him about a bulk ticket, he used to do them for us regular lads as we spent so much time on there.
-
Still busy on there a weekends then? was much out while you was there?
-
Sime have you been recently??

Carl the weed stays all winter long on elsons and its alive with grub. The trick is not to spend too much time marking and thrashing the water. If you keep that to a minimum and watch for signs of carp instead. Rig wise just use something you are happy is going to fish ok even in the weed. I know for a good period that sticks worked and kept the hook clear. Use some foam in it to float the hook over the weed and it will drop slowly on top. Good luck for next year.

Great, i like the way in the first video that the whole concept of the lead clip is poo pood in favour of the lead clip coming off the clip/swivel meaning of course that you cant eject the lead........ Basically the running rig would be best but of course they cant get you to spent £15 quid on rig bits saying that can they...... I wont bother watching the bottom link...... I cant be assed to pull that to bits as well.

Stanwick is ace, i fished there for a few years.... Totally gripped by Elsons and the magic. Not as magic as it used to be but still a place i am found of. Some cracking fish in there and if you fish it regular you begin to get the know them

I like the Fox hooks too. the old Nash fangs used to be the best curve shank on the market but now all of them from all companies have too much of an angle put in on the eye for my liking so dont bother any more. I used to like some owner hook as they were ultra durable especially on gravel pits. On barbless waters the gamagatsu g-hards were the dogs nackers but i think the quality has gone down hill in the last few years.

You know that Sam. I did have to replace the receiver batteries funnily enough. I had 28 runs (fish on) in total on my rods. 18 of them off the baited spot. Blooming right shoulder is swollen One fish that Lewis played gave him a dead arm.... one i played gave me pins and needles in my hand. Proper scrappers. -

Gazza the pictures were on a cheapy Kodak C875 To be honest it always takes good pictures great value piece of gear. Lewis that picture of some feature finding would be giving the game away.... I didnt know you did that. My rods look like they were set with a spitit level in that pic too. Nige, It was a shame that you were not there mate. If anything could have made the week better it would have been your company. We missed you mate. Anyway if you have any free time early next year then let me know as i want to go back early either april 10th or may 15th. Might even go for my birthday too if i can. I have a couple of mates who fancy it for april/ may time 7 of us makes it £430 for the week and i have room in the van. -
