I have used it and quite like it. tree's i know why your mate line kept snapping mate. with that type of mono (and most really) you need to get it used before its any good. if you go lobbing leads about straight away it will snap, you need to gently increase lead weight and casting distance to get it used to casting etc, after a while you or your mate will have no problem with it. very good line if you take the time to get it working right. ;) Had my pb on duo, both carp and pike and have it on the stalking reel too.

I fish a helicoptor trapped next to the lead with a buffer bead and rubber shock bead sideways... not sliding, but use a stiff link on a slider which is no different to a "chod" set up or even a helicoptor set up. A helicoptor rig is a helicoptor rig no matter what way you wrap it up. There is no diffinative set up for each rig arangement, just bottom conditions, fish your after, and bait set up. You just play about to suit what you need, but does not mean its a different rig.

Nothing..... just how its gift wrapped.

I use many lengths from 2 inch to 2mm More thought is required before you use any given length. I have had my fish fish on mainly very short hairs this year, probably because even the clear spots have a light covering of weed on them. Maybe they help stop the hook fouling on the weed where a longer one could do....... Just have a think about it, over gravel you can try them all and be able to make some kind of judgement on the effectiveness of that particular length on that particular water at that particular time. In weed and you may get more pick ups but be hampered in other ways so results would not be conclusive. I would say dont get bogged down in using 1 style.

Take a non angler and get a second rod out.... :D

I feel this thread is being "lead" along a winding road, maybe we should "swivel" around and head back with the correct "alignment" :D
-
Well lets hope the carp take notice of the "point" you are making :D
-
Have used the ultra point a little this year and found them to be quite good. I would just have a play and try and fine tune your set up, tiny adjustments can make a big difference:D
-
Yeah thats the stuff Chris. I lost it in my bag the other week and had to use the kryston stuff i had in the box...... what i nightmare. I think i use half the amount of Critical mass to set a 15mm pop up than what i used of the heavy metal. In the end i changed to a lesser bouyant pop up so presentaion was better.

There are many variations of this rig to suit different situations but it is a Helicoptor rig with a new fangled name and purpose. Its a cast anywhere rig.

There is weight, you have you rubber shock beads on the core sideways so they are tight. you put them on with the baiting needle/splicing needle. This then gives the weight. The fish pulls one way the lead is the weight and if it goes the other the drag is the weight. they have to suit the bottom and situation. although this time of year i would go more for a stiff rig boom and hlicoptor as i find the presentation of "chod" is not too great unless in the weed. the heli is motre of and alrounder and i would say better now the weed is dying back.

Have used it all year..... i hate fluro hooklinks....... love fluro leaders. :D
-
I have one....... bit different to some pop up rigs and requires no tying and no hair (as such). made from silkworm with a shrink boom one end and a long shank the other. I use another style of pop up rig which is on a hing and the link is totally stiff. We will see how they work this winter.
-
My running rig is similar, standard 9 inch hooklink (usually) with hook size and bait to suit as you say. i then have a swivel then a buffer bead covering then the lead free running which is a flat pear from MFC in 2oz or 2.5oz. The way i have found to get away with such a light lead is to use a fluro leader. I would say that the line pulls through the eye on the lead with less force with the fluro leader. Again as Nick says, fished slack.

ok what's a zig rig................???
coops_northants replied to whitefinger's topic in UK Rig Tying
You can have the height as much or as little as you like. Thats where the skill comes in if its wrong its useless. You need to be carefull with the bait you use for the height you set it. some people often forget that the longer the link the heavier the weight and so, does you bait stay popped up where you want it???? You should not use flurocarbon links as they are extremly heavy and i would say a pre streched match fishing mono like powerline would be far better. Get it right and it is as effective as any other method sometimes more so. Dont forget that "Jockey" (r.i.p) was caught at over 50lb this year on the Zig -
Garnder critical mass. best i have used and i have used a few. It is soft and it is actually STICKY. no knots, or wrapping around lead wire from you leadcore. it even sticks to mono and flurocarbon. And its heavier than the kryston stuff (i have checked) :D 5 BB's for a pop up..... You sure it wasn't a Ping Pong Ball on your hair rig :D
-
Nylon for me with the leader knot.
-
If no one knows about it and you will have to stop fishing it soon then i would surgest empty your bait bag on it. You wont need to save any bait for over winter if your at collage. bait it up and see how it goes.
-
Try a little piece of tube over the knot Or try using a smaller B.S fluro.
-
Have you tried a little bit of shrink tube at the top of the hooklink onto the swivel?? if not give this ago as it creates a stiff section near the lead and swivels and so keeps most of it away from each other on the cast and also when it hits the water. Feathering the line to a stop will also force the bait away from the lead and line just before the rig hit water. if you allow this to sink on a tight line you will keep everything apart and not suffer so many tangles. You will always get tangles with soft braid but sometime the benefit of soft braid is worth the hassle.
-
How about trying something a little different? Reverse combi to an inline lead and heavy tube behind. the combi is a mono link near the hook tied to a soft braid. Set the length so that when the braid sinks in there is only a small amount of it and the mono above the silt. The lead sinks in and so does some of the tube and most of the hook rig. Nothing about to spook the fish and a bait that is resting nicely. Dont knock it till you have tried it as you might be surprised how effective it is for wary fish:D Just take the time to refine it to suit the lake you fish and enjoy.
-
For lead core the needle knot is what i use and its just right. quite strong too and doesn't snag up on the bottom like other ways could.
-
Coated- Kryston Snakebite, gold and green. Braided- merlin and silkworm and for shy and clear water multi strand. Fluro is ghost although i dont like it for hooklinks just a leader. Mono links are Ultima pro Match or trilene sensithin depending on what i want.

I have sensor for my barbel reels and i dont like it that much TBH have Duo on my reels still not the best line around but its thinner and suits the lake i fish. Wouldn't mind giving x-line a go.

The fishery manage where i fish was talking about some hooks he swears buy ( i lost a fish you see) he said to me to try some G-hards cant remember the company who make them but he says they are all he uses, £12 for 10 so have to be good, would mean no casting near trees just incase:D
