  1. i don't like them myself, the bigger carp are generally ok but if your water has any decent tench, bream, crucians, rudd or roach etc you can say goodbye to them. you'll not find much in the way of birdlife either, anything duck sized generally gets taken, i even saw one try to take down a full grown swan once.

  2. go down there a few times mate, see if you can have a chat with someone fishing,

    That seems true unfortunately mate.

Raby Mere seems to be a very close group, I've tried contacting them multiple times, on their Facebook page people ask all the time how to become a member or get on the waiting list but get no response.

they have an insta account as well, you could try that but i reckon they get a lot of enquiries and the guy will no doubt be fed up of answering them, my advice is go down there and loiter around for a while, see if you can catch him yourself, or one of the members, they might have a contact number, nothing works better than face to face ;)

one of my mates got in there first time of asking, he bumped into the owner and got a ticket straight away, it's not a difficult place to get a ticket for.

  3. i'm wirral based mate, i'm not in any syndicates at the moment and i've only ever been in 2 my entire life, i got into both because current members knew me personally for a long time and put me forward, unless one of your mates reveals he's a member of one and gives you an 'in' you're unlikely to succeed.

having said that there is the odd water around that's run on a more commercial basis, raby mere springs to mind ;)

Are you going to the northern angling show mark? If so, pop over to our stand and I’ll talk you through all the benifits of the bushwhacker. It’s so different than anything else on the market and in my honest opinion, so much better.

alas not nige, I've been to 2 of the 8 and they aren't really my type of thing, I quickly worked out you get a very good choice of swims on the show weekend, the only way i'll be there is if the lakes are frozen, that's how I ended up going to a second one :D lol

if we are frozen over that weekend i'll come and find you ;)

But if your line snaps this set up is not at all safe for the fish, which is what the OP was asking.

Heli/chod set up is safest as long as your top bead comes free and the swivel of the hooklink can pass over whatever you used to stop the bead then a fish would just be left with the rig in its mouth.
Running rigs you leave the line but no lead, same with drop off lead clips or inlines. Anything not dropping the lead is not safe for the fish and IMO irresponsible angling.

i'm not sure the heli is safe either mate, in an ideal world yes, as long as the top bead comes free you should be ok, but weed can be horrible stuff and it doesn't take much to clog things up and stop a rig working as intended, the top bead actually coming off in this scenario is a big assumption, I wouldn't trust it even with a helisafe bead on ;)

I watched a couple of your vids last night found them quite interesting and easy to watch, some good advice and easy to follow tips etc,

thanks mate, I appreciate the feedback, I do try to make each one better but it's hard work, you start off with an idea of how you want things to go then you go fishing and film it, trouble is your fishing trips never pan out as you expect them too and you end up with something completely different to your original idea 🤣

    That made me chuckle lol.

I think it's very clear that blatant product plugging is a thing of the past. Just look at the latest Korda films, they hardly mention any gear during the main event, they whack it all in a "featured in this film" bit at the end that you don't have to watch. It's great.

Ultimately most of these films are glorified adverts so we should expect a bit of plugging but the days are gone where it's all Trakker this, Daiwa that, Cell Cell Cell. These firms know that free content with zero plugging is out there so they had to react by creating a more viewer friendly experience. We've never had it so good imo.

hmmm, not sure I agree with that yonny, perhaps in video format from the big names but a lot of youtubers are still do it and it's completely out of control on fb and Instagram :(

  7. I spend most of my time on youtube too these days, there are very few, if any, of these gripes in my videos, little or no annoying music, i'll never kiss a fish, no annoying sayings like pukka or unit, I dislike tackle and bait companies and their social media advertising tactics so no endless plugs, in fact my channel is dedicated to doing things on the cheap and using alternatives ;) if you haven't seen any of my stuff before just search for 'mark carp', apologies for the plug but i'm sure there's something on my channel you'll find useful :)

I didn’t realise you were a member here, I watched a few of your barbel vids a couple of years ago, I found them very informative they helped me catch a 10 pounder on only my second barbel session... thanks mate 👍

been a member on here for many years but I don't post much these days, mainly due to time constraints😉 thanks for the feedback mate, i'm made up you took something from the vids and caught, that's the kind of feedback that makes it worthwhile doing them👍😎
