  1. Ohh out tomorrow as a proper non smoker, two weeks since giving up the vapes and what an improvement, the hospital consultant said it was vaping that was causing the issue proper not keen on vaping longterm. Bought a oxygen level monitor hitting all the right numbers on a walk so I doubt I have any serious damage beyond ageing.
  2. Be there tomorrow I didn't get any corn officially.
  3. Seen it in the shops, packaging looks plush if it's made by Munch baits I can't see it being anything different to what is already available, The results you get from making fresh really is worth the effort on some waters.
  4. Rigs are all tied and ready on the pb jelly wire, did alright with the the jelly wire previously so it's my first choice, all sitting in the box having a straightener, pretty much ready to go bar the arrival sandwich I take for afternoon lunch on the first day.
  5. Booked in for Sunday, they reckon it's boilie and pellet only, yeah I'm taking a lot of sweet corn... and boilie, I know,.. I pre booked even picked picked my peg, been before but not in a while, I'm trying to stay local so it really limits specimen carp waters. I had a look a Bishops Bowl but they have a lot of filling in work going on so the actual specimen lake is pretty much closed unless you fancy a bit of a hike,I have never fancied Mitre pool it's a bit like Barston, if the rod goes at 4am might be a good un but more than likely not. So Dog Lane is looking good, I was thinking about Mineral lake but they have Sturgeon to 180lb I think I will give that a miss shame as there are some really big carp in there. So it's two rods on what is a margin venue from what I can work out, bait boats are very popular and no one uses a boat to fish the margins, I like my peg choice as well, nothing to the right of me and the next two pegs to my left are empty and have been hemed in by myself and whoever is in the third peg to my left. Shame they don't draw pegs on the day as it's a 10am start for all anglers arriving on that day. Food for me will be simple, a breakfast and shake before I leave home and a few bit for the evening the next day will be porridge and pot noodle. I'm thinking, get there for 10, set up and sit back real quite in the hop the fish come into a less pressured area with lots of corn to hold them, see what the fish are doing before putting my rods out around late afternoon time. I'm in a slight bay swim so can set up back a bit. It is a nice venue nothing built up or main roads near by, the old fellas son runs the place, I used to get on alright with his dad, as in he would let me do overnight without a bivvy just a tent. Although Dog Lane is said to hold over 250 large carp, they don't always show up from what I can gather off recent online reports I got rigs to tie, well booms to attach to spinner and loop rigs, will be using PB jelly wire as it's a clear flat bottom something very supple would be my choice I've a feeling it don't take much in the way of rigs standing up or bows of floro in the hook length to see them do the offski.
  6. Finally finished the van build, reckon a few laps of a big lake Is due
  7. You might find something with twin tips that would work, the problem being any rod that is suitable for silvers will struggle with carp most silver fish are very fast feeders using the rod tip to set the hook needs a very light tip that's why feeder rods usually come with multiple tips, you would want something that is good for large perch and chub as well as silvers, that would be the sort of thing you are looking for.
  8. PVA bags or stick mix would be a easy change without going mad on end tackle I'd use the stick mix PVA approach with a simple multi rig tied to a size six hook, if you are struggling, the Korda booms and loops make a great combi rig pretty much straight out the packet, plenty of hook metal you can keep the hooks prone with a cheap very fine file.
  9. Hybrids have been on the canals a fair bit, usually bream x roach didn't think you would get bream x carp the photo I seen was looking carpy, not a generated image as the boat yard was in the pic.
  10. Not sure if twitter inspires me to get out for a few days or put you off, one poor chap is struggling with the wind, got the alarms on lowest sensitivity the wind is still being a disturbance. Rod tips in the water with heavy bobbins would fix that? think he would of been better off bringing them in myself till day light something I do on most sessions if I have a fish or a problem and a rod needs recasting I will wait till that first twilight bit so I can see how the cast went into the water, only reason I do that is, if I cast in the dark, come first light I will be more than tempted to bring that rod in for a recast.
  11. Definitely silvers stocked for the match angling, there are silvers in the canals near me alot of hybrids as well, sure one lad had a carp bream hybrid out the canal it was a bream but with a carp like mouth, didn't think you got carp hybrids.
  12. So I popped out yesterday afternoon, fishing the waggler and led rod, grabbed two bags of frozen corn and some rubber bits out my carp tackle, was having silver bream on the float rod and one small carp, the led rod went mental two large carp about 15 to 20 lb just smashed my hook size 10 just spat it out after taking my gear on a lap of the lake, they really did want that corn. Got to be some of the finest close in fishing I have done in a while, can't believe I got carp looking for corn on the deck they were cruising the top all day the confidence they had on the corn was saying something.
  13. The local stretch of the Avon do a good season ticket for 90 pounds they do ask to see the EA rod licence before selling a ticket pretty sure dog lane are doing the same as well on your first visit.
  14. I got camo, rod sleeve and two bags, seems to bring much hilariously fun gests talk of looking like an angler in the Korda camp minus the extra hold hair mouse.
  15. Seen that myself fines are huge, you would be daft to fish a popular venue without a licence these day.
  16. Best to expect to use them the following year at the latest after order would be a good industry standard for rod builders. I know when Malc Rooker used to build rods it was more about the blank as it was difficult to find rods for large European waters 13 foot high test curve was his main market, reel seats and whipping would of been good for then but not the same choices as today.
  17. Think they have all but stopped selling a 2.5tc I'd say the higher tc rods are more bought for casting pva sticks and bags the 2.5 is not strong enough for anything other than the lead. Last time I can recall using a 2.5 rod was a used hyperloop tip snapped on the first cast 2 oz lead and a small pva bag, got 3lb to rods after that.
  18. I got into some nice perch yesterday also made lots of mistakes in regards to waggler fishing, set up on a wooden decking peg that was OK but a bit awkward with two rods, moved to a bankside swim with a nice wind blowing towards me, I spent most of the time clearing pond fluff off the line, had a few roach, but I really was struggling to keep the bait on the hook, no joke I could barely get my hook down before a team of baby perch had stripped the hook bare, try again Friday maybe try a water that isn't three meters deep a rod length out, lol.
  19. Custom rods custom waiting time the way companies are running these days I wouldn't be surprised if they were buying the blanks and parts after receiving each order, I doubt they keep much stock getting lumbered with 500 reel seats that don't sell often would have the accounts department in a dizzy fit. They could hold a stock of made up rods for those that want it instant.
  20. Pint of reds and a two rod licence the EA definitely visit these waters regularly so I did remember to get one before fishing this time, had them at Barston a few years back they cleaned up even did one guy that was just setting up, didn't let him off either. I completely forgot one year seen them coming and quickly bought one online, they just went by to do some maintenance checks on the near by river there is a half hour delay from time of purchase to a live licence so bit lucky there.
  21. Seems OK, might want to try a75 gram weight first, the 100 is at a 3.5lbs rods limit you add in bait end tackle and the power of the cast to get 100 meters really is going to test everything to the limit. Not my style of angling few others on here that are set up for distance fishing they will put you right on how to get the distance safely. Mainline might be a bit too fine usually a 12lb line with shock leader, I know one lake owner that will question the use of 12lb line for distance casting.
  22. Was going to ask if you could do live video wireless, don't know if you have ever seen a boats hull hatch but the underwater view you get is clear as day they work like a bucket viewer, always thought a camera fitted to the bottom of a boat set into the hull to give that same surround shading you get looking through a bucket would work, getting a live feed back to the bank seems to be the tricky bit.
  23. Everywhere is packed out these days and the more large carp waters are getting a bit too controlled via the online booking and peg selection before you arrive, really depends what part of the country you are in, south east Midlands has great choice where as it's more match pleasure venues near me.
  24. Saying that I did do a reccy last week to see if I could see any signs of the larger ones said to be in hiding I found this little tank mooching about, if you can make out the dark shape not a good pic.
  25. Not sure but it looks like I'm giving it a try, what looks like brown feeder line is more a red colour I would of more than likely got something else if I noticed before loading the reel, was going to get the Daiwa sensor but they had sold out. of sensor? It's 10lb bottom line so should be up to the job. Got some 8lb float line as well the David Harrel brand I would definitely use it as a floater main line in a higher BS I'd say it's less supple than the Drennan double strength and very similar in colour.
