  1. I am shaking right now, so I sat it out without casting waiting listening and just where I had suspected/hoped they would be and they are here, right on the end of these recent warm winds and far as possible away from the recent angling pressure. Im shaking because I’m not actually fishing my all year syndicate I’m on my winter ticket at Holme fen fishery in Cambridge and an absolute cow has just smashed out right in front of my swim.😀Now to make a plan.

    Thought of the Day pt.2

Set off to Catterick Garrison (Army Barracks) this afternoon with the family for the weekend to visit wife's sister. They'll be looking after the dog for the week while we're away in June, so need to get him used to the place, be visiting a few times before then. I've been asked do I want to do some basic Army drills while I'm there 😬😬, so up early in the morning...... Glutton for punishment.

  5. Some fish can be resident in a particular area, almost pushing other fish away. Big Scale at Waveney nearly always used to get caught from a particular spot on D/E lake. (Big Carp by Tom Paisley). That one fish may also feed differently, or slightly off the baited spot, and can avoid capture by doing so.

Jacks first session, safe to say he loved it - no dramas - no kit chewed - success! Also seen his first fish - a tench, I'll take that in Feb 👍

  8. I’m on the lake now been searching for 5 hours. Don’t know what to do this wind has been pumping down to one end of the lake for about a week now. gonna keep watching and maybe wait into dark to hear some boshing before even get any kit out. last resort I’m going to set up down the windward end and just camp it out

    Thought of the Day pt.2

Sounds painful, reminds me of my BB days I still march to this day thanks to them, handy for walking the dog. Funny as, guarantee anyone that walks any distance with me will be calling for me to slow down.

  13. Nice fish! On the Lot recently the water has barely reached 7 centigrade! We had snow in January which actually lay for weeks, followed by hard frosts and temperatures down to -10c. That has not helped the fishing at all! But somehow I have scraped out a few barbel and a solitary chub. The chub looked dead when I reeled it in, but its gills were moving slowly. When I released this chub it hung around for minutes, like it was having a job waking up but it swam away OK eventually, Lot fish are not used to the cold, I guess. The barbel are much the same and I can only look forward to the Spring, not far away now, and March can be a wonderful month here. About a week ago I was barbel fishing in the sun, afternoon temperatures reached 17c. As usual I had a second rod out at long range downstream with a double Shimano Isolate LM94 bait. With the water temperatures so low I did not expect a carp but I got a lovely 27 pound surprise.....

  14. Layer Pits put a ban on spodding baits, must be around 2000. The response from all the carp anglers was balling in hemp mixed in Vitalin. The spodded bait ban was lifted a season or two later, although not being a CAPS member I don't know current rules and conditions. @framey Thanks. I was on 'set times' for looking at the forum as I was fishing, First thing in the morning and last thing at night. @Danny Hearn if your bait and baiting is working, stick with it, but look for when results start to drop. At this point it may be time to adapt and come up with something different.

    Dogs and fishing

More carp dog practice for Max - he is easier to handle at fishing than he is at home tbh - so far so good, this week I tried both dogs off lead whilst I barrowed to the swim - any fears he would run off were soon gone as he followed me close behind all the way - impressed! George wandered off as usual - not far but got told off several times, think he is trying to escape Max the poor old boy - not used to sharing.
