  3. They are a pain in the bum to do but the rod certainly looks better for them.... My old MkIV is a kit rod, mullered and soft with a bit of delamination near the butt... retired now sadly...

  4. I am in the middle of rebuilding my MK IV cane rod and had really decided in my head to just whip the rings etc on and not whip any intermediates... then my wife was in my workshop whilst I was whipping rings on and I put a couple of intermediates in just to show her what it would look like.... that’s much better she said 😂😂 I must admit I don’t enjoy whipping intermediates ( does anyone ) but now she has me thinking.. do I or don’t I...

  5. Tungsten loaded needs mucho lubrication, that seems to stop it splitting, l got a little Gardner stripping tool the other week makes life so much easier 👍 Sink link is a nice uncoated braid, I only stopped using it because I ran out 😂

  6. The lads on my lake have used them for quite some time, the fish that were stocked a couple years ago were feed these at the farm they came from. I really like the look of the Master pellets the profile stacks up pretty well for all year round use.

  9. Lovely rods, I have certainly had some fun landing carp on mine.. I have several others and they all get used when needed.. they are never going to be as good as my modern stuff.. but good fun when you do use them..

  18. Oh god, don’t start! I’ve got 6 different types of leadcore! Several types of anti tangle tubing! Different lead clips, heli-safe clips, various different split links to quick change leads on helicopter rigs... half a dozen splicing needles, several baiting needles, nut drills, stringer needles! Helicopter rig kits, anti tangle sleeves, several types and sizes of shrink tube, silicone tube, bait screws, two penknives, a leather man tool, mini screwdriver set, batteries, two types of tungsten putty, several pairs of scissors and braid blades, 3 types of marker floats, 3 types of marker elastic, several types of pva string and tape... swivels? Mini bait swivels. Quick change in size 8,10,11... spinner swivels, normal swivels in 8&11. As for hooks??? Wide gapes, curve shanks, long shanks, trig-hammers, cranks, choddies, crank-choddies, fox med curves, Nash fang, Nash twister, drennan super specialist... long shank twisters... I just can’t help myself, I am always buying bits to tinker with my rigs... yet I always revert back to esp striptease with Nash fangs blowback rigs. Or Ronnie rigs for pop ups... all the “wonder rigs” I tie up on dark winter nights usually end up gathering dust in my rig box. on the bright side, I’m paying off my tackle dealers mortgage!!

  21. I mean really... where are the silver coil indicators sliding up a knitting needle?? Or at least a monkey climber? may as well just stick some shimano bait runners on and be done with it... 😜 I wish I still had my optonics, they got swiped!

  22. Try "The Secret Carp" and "Casting At The Sun" by Chris Yates... utterly superb books... I have retired the MkIV now... for most of my carping I use Sharpe's 9', I have 3 of them now, they were Salmon Spinning rods so quite powerful, but have had them converted to carp spec (extra rings and had the winch fitting removed)

  23. Quest for carp is a good read, and I have read it many times over the past 40 years... it’s been sitting on the bench in my workshop for the last few years and I still pick it up now and then and read a chapter or two..

  25. I think one of them is Ardingly (or something like that!) which is about 40-50mins away, he did a video in Lewes, which is about 35mins away. He did the “big carp from small river” or something along those lines which I would love to find, but I’ve got a river/canal system nearby that I’ve got a ticket for, plus a system of drains and dykes that have a few carp in, but with work/lockdown, they are on the back burner for the time being.

Great shots, loving the rainbow one. Even tho I’ve been out of fishing for a long time, whatever I’ve done I’ve always found myself by water, I find it really therapeutic

  31. If i decide to whip the intermediates ( which i probably will ) luckily I can still see where the original intermediate whips were so i should be able to get them back about right.. I don't think I would ever sell any of my vintage stuff, I have 5 built cane rods in all and they all get well used.. hence this one being refurbished.

  32. I think you should rat look it lol, shiny new rings and a camo shrink wrap handle That would upset folk not enough of that sort of thing in vintage tackle 😂

  33. Not sure if they add strength, but they do add weight and stiffen the action. Not that I would ever think you would, but a properly finished cane rod sells for loadsamoney... That means getting the same number of 'whips' on every ring past the foot
