@finchey I use the CAMH2O. It's very good stuff. It makes a pretty funky boom as well as a great chod link. It pulls straight, no steaming required. It's no harder to knot than any other stiff filament type link. I find even a 2 turn blood knot is enough with the 25 lb stuff which is what I'd recommend.

  4. I received a copy of Adam Penningā€™s book, ā€˜Rolling in the Deepā€™. Wasnā€™t sure what to expect and Iā€™m quite choosy about fishing books. Iā€™m just over half way through and thoroughly enjoying it. I agree regarding ā€˜Fine Linesā€™. Not a patch on ā€˜Obsessionā€˜ or ā€˜Flick...ā€™. Like Yonny I found the enjoyment diminished due to the exposure of vlogs. I was interested to read his chapters on Dintonā€™s Black Swan lake since I joined the year the book came out. The water has changed a lot since Daveā€™s time and so have the version of events in some of his stories.....

It is mate, and to this day completely unique. Have a go with the Specimon for zigs lads. It's something else. Rig Marole are my got-to for any link other than coated braid.

  7. I agree lads. I think it's less fun reading it when you know what's going to happen (which I did after watching DL's vlogs).

  9. I would think a lot might be to do with water tempersture as well as the shallow part will warm up quicker and the fish will go there to warm up, i guess the shallows will make other creatures drawn to the heat, might be worth trickling a bit of bait in you may find they keep coming back, not sure where you are but it doesn't seem that cold at the moment and it hasn't really been cold for that long yet so they might still be fairly active if they are being fed, also if they are younger fish they will probably eat more as there metabolism will work faster than the older carp so they may have more energy to burn (Simon Scott mentioned that in this months carp cast) Good luck

  10. I've had my most successful winters fishing the shallows. Always natural about, they might just have to root about more for it. I recall walking around my old syndicate over the xmas holidays a number of years back to see a mate. Got to the shallows, 3ft - 5ft deep (lake is primarily 10ft - 15 ft deep) to find the an area about 15yds round the colour of tea. Properly being smashed up by the fish. That was midday on a bright wind less day, sun shining on the shallows.

  11. You're Santa yonny?? My child like dreams of st Nick are shattered... Lol! Emmcee... Ref fine lines, I agree, it isn't like obsession or flick of a tale, I found the writing style to be different somehow, it took a few chapters, but I did enjoy it in the end, I didn't want the last few chapters to finish, but I do feel I need to read it again to take it all in if that makes any sense?

  12. I'd say he puts more back into angling than most. And he doesn't want to be acknowledged for a lot of it. He does a hell of a lot for angling that goes unannounced and he wants it unannounced. Most would want their name plastered or spouted about if they do something but not in his case. Yes he has his company and others plastered all over some of his dvd/ youtube videos etc but then so do all the rest of the tackle/bait firms who make DVDs etc.
