    Specialized hookbaits

Yeah, they're pricey but they're worth it. It's not the rolling that costs. It's the curing process. He might as well have. It's a mental process they go through. I've used: S2 - As an all-rounder this is probs one of the best hookbaits money can buy. Works all year. F1 - Brilliant in winter/early spring. A bit different to anything else you've tried. GLMF - Awesome dark spicy hookbaits. Best used over bait I've found. I've used the cork balls and the crushed cork options. Both awesome but I prefer the crushed cork - more versatile. They're not the kind of hookbaits you use on overstocked puddles/commercial lakes, it would cost you a fortune. For tricky lakes when you need something that little bit special to compete, these are the nuts. I completely understand those that aint prepared to pay that kind of money, it's fair play. I've caught a lot of big fish on these which justifies it for me.

    Specialized hookbaits

Any time buddy. A funny story..... one year I was doing rather well on a syndicate near me. There were 2 other guys catching more than everyone else too. Three of us in total catching maybe 80% of the fish. It got to autumn and I was present for a capture with one of these guys - his hookbait was an S2. He was gutted I'd clocked it until I told him that the S2's are what I'd been catching on too (we'd both been keeping it quiet lol). As a result of this we then spoke with the third guy that was smashing it and guess what..... he was on the S2's as well. So the three top rods had all been using the same hookbaits completely independently of one another. Coincidence? Maybe. Personally that is enough evidence for me to indicate that those hookbaits are bit special.

  3. Well documented on here, but this is my most important capture......my first "White Cottage" fish after 15 months of blanks, blanks, blanks without so much as a beep!! Caught in January of last year, 27lbs. Not my biggest, but certainly meant the world to me.

  6. Some of mine, some from a lake with unknown fish, some wood carving, one of the not so common larger ones and my big one!

  7. I like your way of thinking and if these otters were not illegally hand reared then maybe inner city areas would be safer for the fish, however these damn creatures are not scared of humans and have been known to take koi from gardens in housing estates. They are on busy day ticket lakes in daylight, they have no fear of us. IMO nowhere is safe for long, they have done lakes near me that are nowhere near a water course, on paper I would have said no way will they have otters!!!

    Flavour Of The Week

HNV for long term consistent results imo. Less chopping and changing with flavours, colours etc...…. Everything is water dependent, some fish won't go near a high attract bait, some fish rarely get caught on boilies altogether...…. The deeper you go into bait making, the more peripheral subjects you start to learn about, the more you understand about fish, what they need, what they can detect and most importantly what they can utilise..... Once a few pennies start to drop, it becomes pretty clear that good nutrition is very important and this train of thought is very difficult to get away from... I don't think anything in carp fishing is the be all and end all, that's the beauty of it... Anything can work on any given day and as we all know , confidence is key. So use whatever you are confident with..... For me, they generally know what's good for them and a decent HNV bait, will see them come back to a spot again and again and feed confidently. Seeing them do this gives me the confidence to keep using a nutritious food source. Knowing that they also benefit from it makes me feel that I am putting something good into their lives rather than just chasing them for a fish pic..... Nothing better than seeing a couple of big old girls tearing up the bottom, you just know they are on it, and fingers crossed it's just a matter of time......

  14. The guys I know who are up & down the country netting all winter Kev . Were at a commercial day ticket lake in Northampton last week . Turns out there's only a couple of carp left in there.... the owner couldn't believe it considering what the stock should of been . He had seen the odd patch of scales but didn't think for a minute he had been wiped out . I completely agree Kev .... it's just a matter of time for all un fenced venues the way the last 5 years has exploded compared to the previous 5 . If you have fishing in your area guys then make the most of it & cherish the captures even more . How Many of our favourite captures on this thread are already gone .... won't be just one of mine, that's for sure !

    Your favourite capture

Plenty of signs of otters up and down Grantham canal - and very few signs of carp as a result. I'd expect similar all around the country tbh.
