I use slosh 20’s on my sandstorms looking to get a pair of 30’s for the uptiders

7HT'S, beautiful reels, what I use myself on my Sandstorm and Sea Hunter. Unchanged since their release back in the 1990's, although there is now a Mag version. Nice guy, used to fish around Norfolk and Suffolk quite a bit.

They are going to be paired with Daiwa 7HT multis, I’m hoping to get them sorted for the autumn when the autumn/winter seas can prove to be a bit much for my Leeda Icon Elite match rods that I usually use. these rods are usable as they are, but I’d like to replace the eyes and maybe revarnish the blanks, then build them back up. first thing to do is to get them to a field and put the blanks through their paces, be a shame to do a rebuild and have them implode on the first cast because the blank was naffed.

You both could have a practice casting if there’s a field or park land near, good fun for a hour 👍

I was thinking the same. My choice of weapon in the 80’s was a Daiwa Paul Kerry 12 ft quite tippy teamed it with an Abu 7000c with the level wind removed Lee Kerry who is an England international match angler is his son

Welcome to Carp.com. You might find that your water has rules on line diameters and breaking strains for carp fishing, possibly a minimum of 15lb or 0.35mm diameter. The honest answer is that carp fishing wise, you should make well over 100metres, I'd be hitting closer to 150 with the test curve of that rod, what may stop you is reel size, so a big pit reel is needed for 15lb which is my minimum for long distance casting on most waters with carp around 20lb or (just under) 10kg. 100grams is 3.5oz (give or take) so should be right for the rod. Personally I prefer a 30lb (Amnesia) shockleader with 3 or 3.5oz, and it is around 4metres long, at least my casting drop, the lead at the join, and 4 or more turns on the reel. Make sure you position the shockleader knot at the back of the spool. Cracking off when the line has frapped round the knot is not fun. I tie my leader with a simple overhand loop in the leader, and a single uni knot up the leader going through the overhand loop, wet, pull tight and lighter tag both ends of the knot. I do exactly the same sea fishing and with 5 or 6oz leads, and haven't cracked off for a lot of years. I can't see the reason for a lighter rod set-up unless you are targeting other species. Distance fishing, and long casting is practice. I usually need a couple of warm up casts until it is 'right' and I am back in the swing of things.

Bit of a boot sale find, a Team Daiwa Amphorous Whisker 12ft 9 beach caster and a Daiwa Amphorous 12ft 2 beach caster for £20 the pair. they need to be given a thrash with a few leads to check the blank is sound and so long as they are, they will be getting a strip down and basic rebuild at some point to make them usable.

Pint of reds and a two rod licence the EA definitely visit these waters regularly so I did remember to get one before fishing this time, had them at Barston a few years back they cleaned up even did one guy that was just setting up, didn't let him off either. I completely forgot one year seen them coming and quickly bought one online, they just went by to do some maintenance checks on the near by river there is a half hour delay from time of purchase to a live licence so bit lucky there.

Seems OK, might want to try a75 gram weight first, the 100 is at a 3.5lbs rods limit you add in bait end tackle and the power of the cast to get 100 meters really is going to test everything to the limit. Not my style of angling few others on here that are set up for distance fishing they will put you right on how to get the distance safely. Mainline might be a bit too fine usually a 12lb line with shock leader, I know one lake owner that will question the use of 12lb line for distance casting.

Lines and lead are fine but you need a longer shock-leader. I'd go at least 4m longer. Not sure why you'd use the smaller carp rod set up?

Hi everyone, I’m preparing for a fishing trip targeting big carp around 10–15 kg, and I need to fish consistently at around 100 meters. I’m going mono-only (no braid) and looking for advice to confirm my setups for two rods: Big Carp Rod Setup: Rod: 3.9 m strong carp rod (~3.5 lb test curve) Main line: 0.22 mm mono (~6–8 lbs test, low memory) Shock leader: 3 m of 0.40 mm mono (~18–20 lbs test) Lead weight: 100 g aerodynamic lead (clip system) Knots: Double-uni or blood knot (main to leader), improved clinch or uni (leader to rig) Smaller Carp Rod Setup: Rod: 3.6–3.9 m lighter action carp/feeder rod Main line: 0.18 mm mono (~5 lb test) Shock leader: 2 m of 0.30 mm mono (~12 lbs test) Lead weight: 50 g method feeder (possibly bump to 75 g if needed) Knots: Same as above My main concerns are: Can these mono diameters reliably handle 100 m casting without snapping? Are the shock leader sizes appropriate for absorbing casting shock and abrasion? Is the lead weight suitable for these lines to reach 100 m? Thanks in advance for your advice!

I've seen one of the winch cameras in action, very good bit of kit, too expensive for me though.

Was going to ask if you could do live video wireless, don't know if you have ever seen a boats hull hatch but the underwater view you get is clear as day they work like a bucket viewer, always thought a camera fitted to the bottom of a boat set into the hull to give that same surround shading you get looking through a bucket would work, getting a live feed back to the bank seems to be the tricky bit.

The camera i use can be linked to a VTX for FPV, at present its just for recording. The hopper is a flipper and dont like ejecting wet particles like corn, a fair bit sticks in the hopper but dry bait like boillies fling out just fine

Everywhere is packed out these days and the more large carp waters are getting a bit too controlled via the online booking and peg selection before you arrive, really depends what part of the country you are in, south east Midlands has great choice where as it's more match pleasure venues near me.

Saying that I did do a reccy last week to see if I could see any signs of the larger ones said to be in hiding I found this little tank mooching about, if you can make out the dark shape not a good pic.

Any weekend fishing is pretty great but it is nice share it sometimes. I think my eldest is slightly more keen though. Her casting is getting better, that's what she enjoys most tbh. I think I like casting too, satisfying when it's bang on,the best when it ends in a bite 😂

Not sure but it looks like I'm giving it a try, what looks like brown feeder line is more a red colour I would of more than likely got something else if I noticed before loading the reel, was going to get the Daiwa sensor but they had sold out. of sensor? It's 10lb bottom line so should be up to the job. Got some 8lb float line as well the David Harrel brand I would definitely use it as a floater main line in a higher BS I'd say it's less supple than the Drennan double strength and very similar in colour.

Not what I'd call bit like trying to inflate a balloon to airship proportions, probably the only form of fishing/hunting most do so it gets the full on game approach can be a bit awkward when you don't share the same level of enthusiasm in targeting specific.

I wonder if I draw the idiots then? Nazeing being the exception. I must admit that I didn't like the club waters, not because of the idiots, but because I don't like crowds. On Alton I found on 2 occasions that someone had followed me into the swim I was fishing, although to be honest I don't think that they were catching. I did found out someone spent a month(!) in the bridge swim I'd been fishing and caught nothing, where I had had 8 fish over 3x 2night sessions.
