Hi Guys,

As a long term user of ATTs, I remember reading a while they were going to bring out an ATTs alarm with a speaker, maybe to replace the other alarm they used to do?

Not seen anything more about this, not on website, maybe a step to far for an alarm I have had over 10 years and is bomb proof.

Does anyone else have more info?

Thanks, might cost me money.... but a classic phrase.... why replace something that isn't broken 😀

Also the speaker might comprimise how waterproof the original ones are?

If I felt I was missing out having a speaker I might, but tbh I've got used to the receiver now and love just having that nearby at all times.

Have to agree elmoputney,

Still makes me laugh when alarms have soo many features. imh totally not needed, a take is either a drop back or a run, never needed anything else.. what do I know tho, used to used Optonics hard wired to a BiTech viper alarm box lol

I do use my alarms without the receiver every now and again on day only sessions, so for them to be audible is important to me. At night though I wouldn't be without the receiver next to my head on the storm pole

Just have your receiver with you it's not complicated really put it on a lanyard, I sometimes just leave it on a bucket or in my bivvy pocket somewhere I know I'll hear it.

I think they have missed a trick and not using the same type of speaker as the old optonic

would have still been waterproof then and no different in style

maybe a little fatter to account for another little PCB?

It is if you don't bring it with you😉

My overnight kit is in a rucksack, and the receiver lives in a pocket in that, my day kit is my tackle box, so I don't bring it with me. On a day session it is not like I am miles away from the rods, or deep asleep.

There was a lot of stinky winky talk in the early days

leaving the receiver at home !!

can honestly say I don’t think it’s ever happened as usually the receiver is kept in the same bag as the alarms.

what if the receiver packs up !!

what if a normal receiver packs up

you still missed the bite either way.

i think in the 20+ years they have been available they have proven very reliable and the only problem anyone reported was sticky cases..

I always keep mine with the alarms, banksticks and buzz bars. I haven't forgotten it yet. It's not an issue really

Found this on YouTube a while back.

Hmmm, not sure I am really that impressed, the guy doesn't really explain it to well, however that speaker on the front does seem like an invitation for water ingress.

Also the underlit rollers not for me. I prefer the led on my older alarms.

Think I will be saying 'I'm out' for this new one tbh.

I sold my ATT’s alarms as I found in daylight it was hard to see the underlit wheel led so only knew which rod had the take by the dangling bit indicator moving.

Now use Fox alarms with dual LEDs on the ears and a lot more visible

I won't be changing over. When I bought mine the attraction was that if I had a take only I would know, not every angler within earshot. I like silent heads and don't want or need speakers.

Totally agree, I will never change from my original ATTs alarms, tbh I just wonder how these 'improved' ones will actually sell?

Oh hold on a minute 'cr*pology' will no doubt do the usual rave review when they come out 😀 It wont boost any sales tho imo.

Don't change ATTs, I have no intention to change mine 👍

I can guarantee you right now that they will sell. They've drummed up loads of interest.

It is a complete no-brainer to offer one with a speaker. For every guy that prefers the speakerless version, there's one that prefers a speaker. It's a win-win for them to offer both. Their only other remote alarm is based on a design that's nearly 30 years old (TLB+), and even that needs the ATT receiver.

Not sure about 'no brainer' 😀.

The TLB had a speaker and they discontinued it, not sure it needed a reciever to actually make a run tone tho??

As for loads of interest, well only thing I dug up was that youtube vid I posted ages ago, nothing on theirweb site lol

Anyway, each to his own, I cannot see this being a winner, and in an odd way I hope it isn't...... just stick to the old skool stuff a lot of us old gits love about ATTs

It was discontinued because they bough the TLB+ out. I strongly suspect the TLB+ will be discontinued when the new ATT comes out.

Not sure I follow you here. I'm talking about interest in the product from anglers. Not websites or advertising. Loads of guys on the bank are keeping an eye this.

Why would you hope the product doesn't succeed?

What amuses me is that roller wheel alarms are all based on the original Optonics if you think about it.

A 2 or 4 vane (or more if you had some craft skills) wheel breaking a beam of light. It is effective when used in conjunction with an indicator keeping the line taut and on the wheel. Technology may have advanced, it may now be magnets turning past a detector, but it is still a roller wheel.

It was Delkim who launched the vibration sensing ST's, plug out to a wired receiver and then the TXi with wireless receiver, although they and Les Bamford had done conversions to a reed switch wheel on the original Dellareed Optonics. There were other attempts at vibration sensing, Bitech Viper.

I think that it was a 'law' change in the 1990's that saw radio channels able to be used for wireless signals, although I may be wrong, but I do remember many radio stations switched or also transmitted from AM, or MW and LW, to FM.

As for alarms, as I have mentioned, on a day session I prefer to hear the alarms themselves, whereas at night I need and use the receiver.

Now that means that, to me, there is a market for both as not every angler will fish nights, doesn't want or need a sounder or receiver box.

A long way away from being bivvied up as close as you could possibly get to the rods on the original alarms that made hardly any noise.

Yep , LED's on the ears then it doesn't matter if you are left or right handed .

Not sure I expected so many posts on this tbh, but pleased it has sparked reaction 👍

Agree with salokcinnodrog, roller wheels are based on the original optonics, I still have two somewhere  that were linked (by a cable) to a BiTech Viper sounder box., used to use them so many years ago on Horseshoe Lake!

Just as an aside, the Catchum catalogue, very long gone now, used to advertise converting an optonic to a Delkim conversion, but sadly when I wanted to have it done they couldn't because of legal reasons.

Ooh, alarm ears! I'd forgotten about them. There were two types that you could add to your Optonics: the fixed ears or the moveable ones.

I had the moveable ones so I could put my Optonics in the box at the end of the session. I had painted the fronts white so I could see them.

I also remember the multi-pin jack plug sounder box that Efgeeco made.

Here is a pinched picture

The funny thing is that originally Dellareed recommended Del Romang to convert them as far as I can remember, then changed their minds and took it to court.

Catchum, Rod Hutchinson's original bait company! Seafoodblend, probably one of the first fishmeal baits, and very effective.
