used slugs

I tried using them once, (hooked on micro barbed), every time I reeled in they had gone!!

Did you have any luck with them? If so how did you present them?

I guess you could drill the shell of a snail, not too sure if a common snail will survive too long under water and would it drag your rig around a bit?

Interesting bait theory, I hope someone has a bit more knowledge

Ive caught carp and perch on slugs before mate.

Just hooked on with a size 4 barbed hook.

Never had a problem with them coming off.

Mainly float fished though.

I've caught carp, pike, perch and chub on slugs, in fact I freeline slugs specifically targetting chub on a size 2 or 4 Super Specialist.

I have thought about using snails on the hook, but found putting a hook through the shell created a larger than needed hole if it didn't crack, and I never fancied drilling them.

The furthest I got was putting live snails in my spod mix as I got to the bank. I do not know if they added extra attraction.

Do you thread that through the bait?

The slug can change shape quite a bit, so I doubt a lassoo would work.

I suppose floss would have the same effect! 🤔

You just bind it on going round and round the bait ,when finished winding it on just pull to snap , it just binds on ,no need for loops or nots , have a look on you tube sea fishing ect , theirs bound to be someone showing how , it is really easy

Ps , floss will not contract like bait elastic which pulls tight on the bait.

Years ago Saskcarp had a link to a Japanese fishing site that showed a snail drilled through the shell and hair rigged.

I've used live ones, dead ones, dried ones....... I've done lots of experimenting with naturals. My advice to you is don't bother, stick to worms/maggots, infinitely more effective mate.

LOL - I used snail meat out the cans, stuffed it into a real shell with a cork ball in.  Took forever, the shells are so fragile, anyway it looked banging, I had found the holy grail

No bites not a sniff - useless!!!  As Yonny says maggots and worms lol

I can imagine that looked good lol.

My mate invented what he called the 'toxic maggot rig'. It was an isotope suspended by a cork ball with a ball of maggots tied on. It looked amazing, glowing green with little wrigglers, the name was very apt. Needless to say he blanked lol.
